The right AI song maker depends on what you need to produce: a vocal-led song, instrumental background music, continuous ambient audio, or orchestral composition. Compare tools by output, practical editing and export controls, usage limits, and the rights attached to the plan you use to create each track. Commercial-use permission is not a guarantee of copyright protection.
Start with the kind of music you need
“AI song maker” can mean very different things. A service built around generating a complete song with lyrics and vocals may be a poor fit for a video creator who needs instrumental background music, or for someone making long-form ambient audio. Decide on the output before comparing prices or judging a tool by a sample.

- Complete vocal songs: Look for lyric and vocal generation, and check whether you can guide style and structure or revise sections.
- Instrumental background music: Prioritize control over mood, style, duration, and revisions, plus clear permission for the intended use.
- Continuous ambient audio: Check whether the service is designed to produce longer, continuous audio rather than discrete song-length tracks.
- Orchestral or cinematic composition: Look for controls suited to that style and the ability to revise the result to fit a scene.
A 2026 comparison published by SOUNDRAW presents SOUNDRAW as focused on instrumental background tracks, Suno and Udio on complete vocal songs, Eleven Music on vocal songs and API use, Mubert on continuous ambient audio, and AIVA on orchestral and cinematic composition. These are provider-authored descriptions, not results from controlled listening tests. Treat them as starting points, then verify features on each service’s own site.
Compare the controls you will actually use
A convincing first generation is only one part of a usable workflow. Check whether the tool lets you steer the style, structure, and lyrics you want, and whether you can revise a section rather than regenerate the whole track. If you need to provide audio, separate stems, or download finished songs, confirm those capabilities and their plan limits before subscribing.

- Prompt and revision: Can you guide style, lyrics, and structure, and make targeted changes?
- Editing: Are section edits or other studio controls included, and on which tier?
- Uploads and stems: Is upload duration sufficient for your source material? Can you separate or export stems?
- Downloads: Which file formats are available, and how many songs can you download under the plan?
- Generation access: Compare credits, model access, queue priority, and what happens when you use the included allowance.
Plan features do not map neatly from one provider to another. Suno, for example, lists differences across model access, upload duration, editing, stem separation, queue priority, voice tools, and studio features. Compare equivalent controls at any other service rather than assuming that similarly priced tiers offer the same workflow.
Check total cost against limits, not just the monthly price
Suno’s pricing page, accessed October 4, 2026, lists the following plans. These are Suno-specific provider-listed figures, not a price benchmark for AI music services as a category. The page says taxes are calculated at checkout and describes annual billing discounts; check the current checkout price and terms before subscribing.

| Plan | Listed price | Included credits | Monthly song downloads | Commercial use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 per month | 50 credits per day | None | No |
| Pro | $8 per month | 2,500 credits per month | 20 | Yes, subject to Suno’s terms |
| Premier | $24 per month | 10,000 credits per month | 60 | Yes, subject to Suno’s terms |
For your own comparison, write down how many tracks you expect to generate, revise, and download, then compare that workload with the plan’s credits and download allowance. A low headline price may not suit a workflow that depends on frequent downloads or particular editing features. Prices and product limits can change.
Understand what “commercial use” does—and does not—mean
A service’s commercial-use grant is a contractual permission under its terms. It is not a guarantee that copyright law protects a fully AI-generated track or that you own every relevant right. Suno’s paid-subscription guidance, edited September 3, 2026, says: “Copyright qualification and protection is determined by your region/country’s copyright office, not by Suno.” That is Suno’s statement, not a determination by an independent legal authority. Copyright qualification depends on the applicable region or country.

Suno says songs downloaded while you are subscribed have commercial-use rights. It also says free-plan songs are noncommercial by default and that a later paid subscription does not normally grant retroactive commercial rights. Check the terms for the specific track and the plan active when you create or download it before distributing or monetizing it. Do not assume that paying later changes the rights for an earlier free-plan song.

Rights questions apply to what you put into a generator as well as what you do with its output. Suno’s Safety Center, updated October 1, 2026, says the company prohibits attempts to recreate existing songs, uploading material a user does not have rights to, and using someone else’s voice or likeness. Suno’s distribution guidance also warns against monetizing songs that contain another person’s lyrics when you lack the required rights.
- Use only lyrics, recordings, and other source material you have permission to use.
- Do not ask the service to recreate an existing song or use someone else’s voice or likeness without authorization.
- Before release, check both the generator’s terms and the rights required for the material in the finished track.
A practical comparison checklist
- Name the deliverable: Decide whether you need a complete vocal song, instrumental, continuous ambient audio, or orchestral composition.
- Test the workflow against your needs: Check prompt control, structure and lyric guidance, revision options, uploads, stems, and export formats.
- Calculate expected usage: Compare credits, download limits, queue access, and feature availability with the number of tracks you expect to make and keep.
- Read the applicable rights terms: Confirm commercial-use eligibility, restrictions on inputs and distribution, and whether rights depend on the plan active when the track is made.
- Verify current details at the provider: Prices, features, and terms change. Use each service’s current official documentation for a final decision.
There is no supported overall quality ranking here: the available comparison does not establish a standardized test across services. A useful choice is the tool whose output, controls, limits, and rights terms match your particular project—not necessarily the one with the most impressive sample or the lowest listed price.
