How much battery life do you need?
There is no single runtime figure that applies to every game or setting. Screen brightness, frame rate, volume, game workload, chip efficiency, and software can all affect power use. Watt-hours indicate battery capacity, not how long a particular game will run. A larger battery can also add weight and cost.
For a concrete example, Valve lists the Steam Deck OLED with a 50 Wh battery and estimates 3–12 hours of gameplay, depending on content. Valve says its runtime estimates are based on 30 FPS, 50% brightness, and 50% volume; uncapped frame rates, higher brightness, or higher volume can reduce runtime. When checking reviews, compare battery tests only when the game, brightness, frame cap, and power profile are sufficiently alike. A runtime without those conditions is difficult to apply to your own play habits.
Which operating system and game library fit your needs?
Operating system choice can determine whether your games and launchers work as expected. Steam Deck uses SteamOS and shows compatibility ratings for games in the Steam library. ASUS describes the ROG Ally X as a Windows handheld with access to multiple game libraries. Compare the current price in your market for the same storage and memory configuration. Include any accessories you would need, such as storage expansion, but check compatibility for the exact device. A lower base price is not a like-for-like comparison if it comes with less storage or requires an additional purchase for your intended setup.
