Counterpoint Research’s 2025 figures put Xiaomi at 13% of global smartphone shipments; its 2025 accounting combines OPPO and realme at 11%. Those are global shipment measures—not US market shares, phones in use, or proof that any brand is unavailable in the United States.
What “popular” means in this comparison
Here, popularity means a brand’s share of smartphone shipments during the stated period. Shipments measure phones sent into distribution, not necessarily devices sold to end users in the same period. They also do not show how many phones are currently in use or how much consumers like a brand. The figures below therefore describe global and US market activity, not a universal popularity ranking.

Which Android brands lead globally?
Xiaomi
Counterpoint Research reported that Xiaomi retained third place globally in 2025, with 13% of smartphone shipments. That is a worldwide annual share, not Xiaomi’s US share. The figure also should not be read as the percentage of Android phones currently in use.
OPPO and realme
Counterpoint’s 2025 annual account grouped OPPO and realme together: the combined entity represented 11% of global smartphone shipments and ranked fourth. This is not an OPPO-only share, and it should not be compared directly with Xiaomi’s individual-brand percentage without noting the different accounting.

vivo
vivo is another globally prominent Android manufacturer in Counterpoint’s quarterly market coverage. The available figures do not establish a precise 2025 annual share for vivo here, so no exact percentage or rank is assigned.
Why that does not translate into US prominence
The US market has a different mix of visible shipment leaders. Counterpoint reported that Samsung held 25% of US smartphone shipments in Q1 2026 and Motorola held 11%. These US quarterly figures provide context, but they do not give the individual US shares of Xiaomi, OPPO, or vivo.
Counterpoint’s US sell-through dashboard says it tracks models from three brands and includes data through July 2026; the returned dashboard result names Samsung models. That describes the dashboard’s stated coverage, not every phone sold in the country. It is not evidence that Xiaomi, OPPO, or vivo have no US sales.

So “rarely sold” is best understood as a statement about lower visibility in mainstream US sales coverage, not a verified claim of zero availability. The cited material does not provide a complete brand-by-brand US shipment ranking for these manufacturers.

- Check the period: an annual ranking and a quarterly update answer different questions. Counterpoint reported Xiaomi shipments fell 26% year over year in Q2 2026; that is a change in shipment volume, not a 26-point drop in market share.
- Check the geography: global shipment share cannot be used as a proxy for US share.
- Check what is counted: OPPO’s cited 2025 number includes realme, while Xiaomi’s cited number is for Xiaomi.
- Check the measure: shipments, retail sell-through, installed base, and consumer preference are distinct metrics.
What to check before importing one
If you are considering an imported Xiaomi, OPPO, or vivo phone, assess the exact model and variant rather than relying on the brand name alone. Imported versions may differ from US-oriented versions in hardware, software, and after-sales support.
- Confirm network compatibility. Check the exact model number against the bands and network requirements of your US carrier. A phone that supports some US frequencies may still lack coverage or features you expect.
- Verify the software variant. Confirm the device’s regional firmware, available languages, Google services, update policy, and whether it is intended for the market where you will use it.
- Assess the seller. Check who is actually selling and shipping the device, the return window, and how defects or shipment problems are handled.
- Read the warranty terms. Establish whether the manufacturer or seller will provide service in the US and who pays for shipping or repairs.
These checks are model- and seller-specific; global shipment popularity alone cannot establish US compatibility or support.
