How the Micro-Calc filter works—and what it does not establish
Tefal describes the removable Micro-Calc filter as a scale-management system that filters steam and stops calc particles larger than 0.2 mm, helping to prevent residue or stains on laundry. That size qualification matters: the claim is not that every particle or stain is prevented. The manufacturer’s product page calls the system a way to stop calc and deliver pure steam, but that is a product claim rather than an independently verified result.

The filter is not maintenance-free. The manual’s clean-filter alert indicates when to attend to collected scale. Follow the instructions for the exact unit in your region, since manuals and model variants can differ.
How to clean the filter

- Finish ironing, switch off the iron and unplug it.
- Empty the water tank.
- Leave the iron until the soleplate is completely cool—approximately one hour according to the instructions.
- Unlock and remove the Micro-Calc filter, then discard the collected scale particles.
Do not remove a hot filter. Use the manual supplied with your iron for the applicable procedure and any regional water guidance.

Tefal lists automatic shutoff after eight minutes if the iron is left on its heel, or after 30 seconds if left resting on the soleplate. These are the manufacturer’s stated timings; they are a backup, not a substitute for switching off and unplugging the iron after use.

Tefal’s FAQ recommends a sturdy, height-adjustable ironing board with a perforated top so steam can pass through. It also says unsuitable water or starch use can contribute to yellowish marks, and advises applying starch to the reverse side of laundry and cleaning the iron afterward.
