If you want the original Nintendo 64 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on a current Nintendo console, the relevant subscription is Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Nintendo’s US overview lists access to classic Nintendo 64 games as an Expansion Pack benefit, and Nintendo’s original Expansion Pack announcement named Ocarina of Time in its N64 lineup. Because that game list and availability can change by region, check the live catalog on your own console before paying. The US annual price listed by Nintendo is $49.99 for one account or $79.99 for a family membership covering up to eight accounts.
Do not confuse that subscription access with the separate Ocarina of Time release announced for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Nintendo describes the Switch 2 game as a rebuilt edition with overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, enhanced controls and modern camera movement. It is a separate purchase and a Switch 2 exclusive, not the Nintendo 64 game supplied through the membership library.

The Nintendo 64 version in the Expansion Pack library
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is the subscription route for the classic Nintendo 64 release. Nintendo’s current US service overview says the tier includes “access to a selection of classic Nintendo GameCube™, Nintendo 64™, Game Boy™ Advance, and SEGA Genesis™ games.” The original Expansion Pack announcement specifically named Ocarina of Time among its Nintendo 64 games.

This is access through a changing service catalog rather than a stand-alone game purchase. You need an eligible Nintendo Account and an active Expansion Pack membership to use the service. The catalog is not guaranteed to be identical in every country, and a historical announcement is not proof that a title is still visible in every region today.
The rebuilt Nintendo Switch 2 edition
Nintendo has separately announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, with a release date of November 5, 2026. Nintendo’s product page describes “completely overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, and symphonic orchestral music,” along with enhanced controls and modern camera movements.
That release is a distinct game purchase and is listed as exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. Buying or subscribing to Nintendo Switch Online does not give you the Switch 2 edition. Conversely, buying the Switch 2 edition is not a substitute for an Expansion Pack membership if you specifically want the N64 library and its other benefits.

Do you need the Expansion Pack to play the original?
For the original N64 game through Nintendo’s current subscription system, yes: the relevant tier is Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Nintendo’s service overview places classic Nintendo 64 access in Expansion Pack benefits, not in the basic Nintendo Switch Online description.

Before subscribing, open Nintendo’s service information and then verify the game in the catalog displayed for your account. The official overview is at Nintendo Switch Online. The game-specific evidence comes from Nintendo’s historical Expansion Pack membership announcement, which confirms that Ocarina of Time was named in the N64 lineup when the plan was announced.
The practical implication is simple: do not purchase the base plan assuming that every classic console library is included. If the N64 version is your reason for joining, select Expansion Pack and confirm the current listing in your country first.
Current US prices and what each membership covers
Nintendo’s US overview lists annual prices, not a one-time unlock fee. The figures below are Nintendo-published US prices and should be checked again at checkout because prices can change and other regions use different currencies and terms.
| Option | What it provides | Published US price and timing | Check before paying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, individual | Expansion Pack benefits, including access to a selection of classic Nintendo 64 games | $49.99 USD per year, according to Nintendo’s US overview | Confirm that Ocarina of Time appears in the live catalog for your region and account |
| Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, family | Expansion Pack benefits for up to eight Nintendo Accounts through a family membership | $79.99 USD per year, according to Nintendo’s US overview | Confirm that the people you intend to cover meet Nintendo’s family-group requirements and that the local price is current |
| Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 | A separately purchased rebuilt edition with modernized presentation and controls | Announced for November 5, 2026; a final price is not established in the information available here | You need Nintendo Switch 2; release, retailer inventory and final product details may change |
The family plan costs $30 more per year than the individual plan at those listed US prices. That difference only makes sense if multiple Nintendo Accounts will actually use the membership. A single player should compare the individual price with the value of the other Expansion Pack libraries rather than paying for unused seats.
How to confirm availability before starting a recurring membership
Because the title-specific announcement is historical and catalogs can vary, verification should happen immediately before purchase. Use this sequence rather than relying on an old video, screenshot or third-party list.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Identify your target version. Decide whether you want the original N64 presentation through a subscription or the rebuilt Switch 2 game announced for November 5, 2026. They are not interchangeable.
- Check the Nintendo Account region. Catalogs and prices are region-specific. Make sure the store country on the account you will use is the country whose catalog you are checking.
- Open Nintendo’s current service page. Review the benefits shown for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack at Nintendo’s official overview.
- Search the catalog on your console. In the Nintendo Switch Online application or the relevant classic-games area, search for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and confirm that it is available under the Nintendo 64 collection. Menu wording can differ by system software and region, so use the title itself as the check.
- Confirm the plan name at checkout. The product should say “Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack,” not only “Nintendo Switch Online.” Review whether the term is individual or family and whether the displayed amount is annual.
- Check the account that will play. Membership benefits apply through Nintendo Accounts. If several people will play, verify which accounts are in the family group before choosing the family option.
- Save the purchase details. Keep the renewal date and the account used for the membership. This helps prevent a later assumption that the game was purchased permanently when access actually depends on an active subscription.
If the game does not appear in the catalog, stop before paying. An old announcement can establish that Nintendo planned the title for the lineup at that time, but it cannot override a current regional listing.
What subscription access means in practice
Expansion Pack access is a membership benefit, so the right comparison is recurring access versus a separately owned game. The N64 version is presented as part of Nintendo’s classic-game service. You are paying for the membership term and its library, not buying a transferable, stand-alone N64 copy.
Benefits that are established
- Access to a selection of classic Nintendo 64 games is included in Expansion Pack, according to Nintendo’s current US service overview.
- Nintendo’s original Expansion Pack announcement included Ocarina of Time in the N64 lineup.
- A family membership is listed for up to eight Nintendo Accounts.
- Nintendo Switch Online is required for Save Data Cloud support on the separately announced Switch 2 edition.
Things the available information does not establish
- It does not guarantee that every classic title is available in every country.
- It does not establish a permanent ownership license for the N64 version.
- It does not state that the base Nintendo Switch Online tier includes the N64 library.
- It does not provide a final price for the announced Switch 2 edition.
- It does not establish that the Switch 2 edition can run on the original Nintendo Switch hardware.
Treat those limits as purchase checks, not minor footnotes. They determine whether the subscription solves your particular problem.
How the two versions differ for a buyer
| Question | N64 version through Expansion Pack | Switch 2 edition |
|---|---|---|
| How you get it | Use Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack while the title is in your regional catalog | Buy the separate game release |
| Platform | Accessed through Nintendo’s classic Nintendo 64 service on compatible Nintendo Switch systems | Announced as exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 |
| Presentation | The classic N64 release identified in Nintendo’s Expansion Pack lineup | Overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue and symphonic orchestral music are announced |
| Controls and camera | Uses the service’s version of the classic game and its supported control setup | Enhanced controls and modern camera movements are announced |
| Cloud saves | Specific support is not established by the cited information | Nintendo lists Save Data Cloud support and requires Nintendo Switch Online for that feature |
| Release timing | Availability depends on the live subscription catalog | Announced for November 5, 2026; details may change before launch |
The table is a choice guide, not a claim that one edition is universally better. Someone seeking the original version and the lowest up-front commitment may prefer Expansion Pack. Someone seeking the announced audiovisual and control changes, and who owns or plans to buy Switch 2, is evaluating a separate product.
Which option fits common buying situations?
You only want to replay the classic game
Start with the individual Expansion Pack plan if the N64 listing is visible in your region. At the listed US price of $49.99 for a year, the membership also includes the other benefits Nintendo associates with Expansion Pack. Remember that your access follows the membership term and the catalog’s availability.

Your household has several Nintendo Accounts
Compare the $79.99 US family price with the number of accounts that will genuinely use Expansion Pack features. The plan covers up to eight accounts, but you should verify family-group eligibility and make sure the playing accounts are associated with that group. Do not select the family tier solely because its maximum is eight if only one account needs access.
You want the rebuilt presentation
Wait for the separate Switch 2 release if the announced visual, audio, dialogue, control and camera changes are the reason you are interested. The announced date is November 5, 2026, which is after the October 13, 2026 information snapshot used for the catalog and price checks. Nintendo’s product page is the authoritative place to watch for launch details: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2.
You are deciding between subscription access and a separate purchase
List the features you actually value before comparing prices. Subscription access gives you the N64 library while your membership is active. The Switch 2 option is a distinct game purchase with announced modernization, but its final price and some launch details are not established here. A fair decision therefore requires checking the live membership price, the final Switch 2 price and whether your hardware matches the edition you want.

Hardware compatibility is an easy place to make an expensive mistake. The announced rebuilt edition is listed as Switch 2 exclusive, so do not assume that an original Nintendo Switch can run it. The Expansion Pack route is the one tied to Nintendo’s classic Nintendo 64 library on Nintendo Switch systems.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAccount choice matters as much as hardware. Individual membership is for one Nintendo Account, while the family option is designed for up to eight accounts. Confirm the account that will access the classic-games application, especially if a child or another household member normally uses a different profile.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Cloud-save expectations also differ in the available information. Nintendo explicitly says the Switch 2 product supports Save Data Cloud and requires Nintendo Switch Online for that feature. No equivalent specific cloud-save statement is established for the N64 listing here, so do not treat the Switch 2 requirement as proof of identical functionality for the classic version.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying the base plan
The base Nintendo Switch Online label is not the same as Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Check the full product name before confirming payment. If your purpose is N64 access, the tier must include Expansion Pack benefits.
Assuming an old lineup announcement is a live catalog
Nintendo’s announcement proves that Ocarina of Time was named in the N64 lineup when that announcement was published. It does not verify every region or every later catalog state. Use the console’s current listing as the final check.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Confusing a subscription with ownership
Expansion Pack access is tied to an active membership and the service catalog. Record the renewal date and avoid describing the game as permanently purchased unless you have a separate license that says so.
Expecting the Switch 2 edition immediately
The rebuilt game is announced for November 5, 2026. Before that date, it should be treated as an upcoming release, not as a currently playable replacement for the N64 version. Nintendo also notes that some product details may not be finalized.
Using the wrong regional price
$49.99 and $79.99 are US annual prices from Nintendo’s US overview. They are not universal prices. Your account region may display a different amount, tax treatment or membership term.
A short pre-purchase checklist
- Choose between the N64 subscription version and the separate Switch 2 edition.
- Confirm that your hardware matches the edition you want.
- Open the current Nintendo Switch Online catalog for your account’s region.
- Look specifically for Ocarina of Time in the Nintendo 64 collection.
- Select Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, not only the base plan.
- Compare the individual and family annual prices shown at checkout.
- For a family plan, confirm the intended accounts are eligible and grouped correctly.
- For Switch 2, note the November 5, 2026 announced date and check Nintendo’s product page for final details.
- If cloud saves matter for the Switch 2 edition, maintain the required Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Bottom line: which one should you buy?
Buy Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack when your goal is the classic Nintendo 64 Ocarina of Time, provided the game is currently listed for your region. Nintendo’s US price snapshot is $49.99 per year for an individual account or $79.99 per year for a family membership covering up to eight accounts.
