Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled to launch October 6, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S and PC. The choice is between buying Standard, paying extra for Premium’s early access and digital extras, or using day-one access through Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. Premium is scheduled to unlock as early as October 1. The details below reflect official listings available October 3, 2026; prices and availability can change.
When does Gears of War: E-Day come out, and where can you play it?
Xbox lists the release date as October 6, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. The PC versions are listed through the Microsoft Store and Steam. Xbox Wire also lists cloud availability; storefront and cloud access may vary by territory. Since the launch date is still in the future as of October 3, this is a scheduled date, not confirmation that the game is already available. Xbox product page; Xbox Wire multiplayer announcement.

What does Premium add?
Premium’s main practical difference is earlier access: up to five days before the scheduled October 6 launch. Its digital extras are cosmetic items and in-game currency, plus a campaign-only weapon pack. The official edition announcement says the Emergence Customization Pack includes two character skins, two character poses, two weapon-skin sets, and other cosmetic items; further seasonal packs are to be released later. The Bravo Squad Signature Weapon Pack is for campaign use only, not a general multiplayer weapon advantage. Xbox product page; Xbox Wire announcement.
Choose Premium if the early-access window and included extras are worth the price difference to you. If you mainly want the base game at the standard launch, Standard avoids paying for those additions. Existing Standard buyers can use the listed upgrade route rather than buying another full edition.

Is Gears of War: E-Day on Game Pass?
Xbox says day-one access is included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The PC membership route is relevant to the Windows PC release; confirm the game’s availability in your territory and the membership’s current terms before subscribing. Game Pass is access while your membership remains eligible and active, rather than ownership of a permanent copy. Xbox product page; Xbox FAQ.

What is the story, and what play modes are listed?
E-Day is an origin story set fourteen years before the first Gears of War. Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago encounter the first Locust Horde invasion on Emergence Day. Xbox describes it as: “Fourteen years before the original Gears of War, join Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in a gripping origin-story as the Locust Horde first erupts from below, igniting a desperate fight for survival.” Xbox game listing.

Campaign
The official listing specifies solo play, two-player split-screen on console, and online campaign co-op for up to four players. Online campaign co-op requires a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer; day-one access to the game through a membership and eligibility for online multiplayer are separate conditions to check. Xbox FAQ.
Horde Siege and Versus
Horde Siege is described by Xbox Wire as a 12-player PvE mode: three squads of four share a map while pursuing individual missions. Versus returns as the PvP mode. Online access to these features is subject to the same qualifying Game Pass online-multiplayer requirement. The announcement establishes the mode format, not post-launch population or performance. What comes in the Collector’s Edition?
The Xbox Game Studios Shop listed the Collector’s Edition for $299.99 when accessed in 2026 and marked it out of stock. Its listed contents include a 15-inch Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago diorama statue, a 1:1-scale metal COG tag replica, an in-game photo, lithograph, developer thank-you note, Luke Preece-designed SteelBook case, display packaging, the base game, and the Premium digital upgrade. Xbox customers receive a physical disc; Steam customers receive a digital code. Those format details and the shop’s shipping-country limits are subject to the product page and regional retailer options. Xbox Game Studios Shop.
Because the shop marked it out of stock, treat that price and configuration as the listing observed at access, not a promise of current stock. Check the shop’s regional options or an authorized retailer for any live listing, price, format, and shipping terms.

Is there a Gears of War: E-Day controller?
Xbox promotes a limited-edition Xbox Wireless Controller – Gears of War: E-Day on its game page. That confirms the named accessory, but not any retailer’s current stock, price, or affiliate availability. Xbox product page.
What should you check before you buy?
- Platform and storefront: Confirm Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Store PC, or Steam is the version you intend to use; Play Anywhere applies to eligible Xbox and Xbox-on-PC purchases, not automatically to Steam.
- Access versus ownership: Compare the listed edition price with your expected time on Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, and remember that membership access depends on remaining eligible.
- Co-op plans: Split-screen is listed for two players on console; online co-op is listed for up to four and requires a qualifying online-multiplayer subscription.
- Edition timing and extras: Premium’s early access and digital items are distinct from Standard’s base game. Review the current edition listing before paying for the upgrade.
- Collector’s stock and region: The official shop page was out of stock when checked; confirm current stock, shipping eligibility, and whether you are buying the physical Xbox or Steam digital-code version.
As of October 3, 2026, the game had not launched, so reviews, post-launch performance, and actual player counts were not yet established by the cited official listings.
