Bloom Energy has growing revenue, improving gross margins and a large reported backlog, but it was still unprofitable on a full-year GAAP basis in 2025. Its latest quarter showed a sharp year-over-year increase and higher 2026 guidance, yet roughly 73% of revenue in the first six months of 2026 came from one customer. Those facts make the stock a high-execution, high-concentration investment rather than an obvious buy.
You cannot reach a responsible buy-or-sell conclusion from operating growth alone. Before buying, verify the current share price, diluted share count, debt, cash generation and the assumptions required to turn management’s forecast into a valuation.

What Bloom Energy does
Bloom Energy is an energy-technology company whose core business is the Energy Server platform and the installation and service activity surrounding it. The company sells systems to commercial and industrial customers and is pursuing demand from data centers and other facilities that need dependable on-site power. Its opportunity is tied to customers’ need for resilient electricity, but its results depend on converting projects into delivered, commissioned systems and collecting cash on acceptable terms.

Bloom’s reported business is not a single revenue stream. Product revenue comes from Energy Server sales. Installation revenue is recognized as projects are delivered and installed. Service revenue comes from contracted operations and maintenance, while electricity revenue can arise when Bloom retains an ownership or operating interest in a system. These categories have different timing, margin and cash-conversion characteristics. A quarter with unusually large product deliveries should not be treated as a recurring run rate for service or electricity revenue.

Why data centers matter
Data-center construction, including facilities supporting artificial-intelligence workloads, is a potential demand driver because grid interconnection and transmission upgrades can take years. Bloom founder, chairman and chief executive KR Sridhar described the shift this way in the company’s February 5, 2026 results release: “Bring-your-own-power has shifted from a slogan to a business necessity for AI hyperscalers and manufacturing facilities.” That is management’s characterization of market demand, not proof that every proposed project will become an order, installation or profitable contract.
Brookfield Fund joint ventures
The 2025 Form 10-K discusses joint ventures involving Brookfield Fund entities and sales to those ventures. The filing describes the transactions as being conducted at arm’s length and on prevailing market terms. Their existence is relevant when assessing customer mix, revenue quality and cash conversion, but related-party status by itself does not establish improper accounting. Read the related-party, contract and receivables disclosures together rather than treating these sales as equivalent to broad, diversified end-market demand.

Bloom reported the FY2025 figures in its February 5, 2026 results release and its 2025 Form 10-K. The Q2 2026 revenue and margin figures came from the Form 8-K results exhibit released July 28, 2026; the cash figure came from the amended Q2 Form 10-Q filed July 29, 2026. The quarterly release’s year-over-year comparison is for Q2 2026 versus Q2 2025.
Growth did not equal GAAP profitability in 2025
FY2025 combined substantial revenue growth with a 29.0% GAAP gross margin and $72.8 million of GAAP operating income, yet Bloom still reported an $88.4 million net loss attributable to common stockholders. Interest expense, taxes, non-operating items, preferred or other capital-structure effects and share-based compensation can create a large gap between operating income and the amount attributable to common equity holders. Analyze the income statement all the way to the common-stockholder result.

Separate GAAP from non-GAAP numbers
Management’s adjusted metrics can help explain operating trends, but they are not substitutes for GAAP results. Adjusted earnings may exclude items such as stock compensation, restructuring, acquisition-related costs or other charges. Compare the reconciliation in each release, check whether excluded items recur, and examine cash flow and share count alongside any adjusted earnings-per-share figure.
What the 2026 outlook actually says
On July 28, 2026, management raised its FY2026 guidance to revenue of $3.9 billion–$4.2 billion and non-GAAP earnings per share of $2.55–$2.85. These are forecasts, not results. They are conditional on manufacturing output, customer orders, project timing, incentives, component availability, financing and margin performance. A guidance range can be revised or withdrawn if those assumptions change.

Questions to ask about the guidance
- How much of the revenue range is supported by signed contracts, and how much depends on new orders or accelerated deliveries?
- What portion is product revenue versus installation, service and electricity revenue?
- Does the non-GAAP EPS range include the expected diluted share count after convertibles, equity awards and any new issuance?
- What operating cash flow and capital spending are needed to achieve the forecast?
- How sensitive is the range to incentives, tariffs, commodity costs or a delayed data-center project?
Do not annualize the Q2 2026 revenue mechanically. A single quarter can include a concentration of product deliveries or project milestones that do not recur evenly in later quarters.
Customer concentration is a central risk
Bloom’s amended Q2 2026 filing says approximately 73% of revenue came from one customer during the six months ended June 30, 2026. The period and denominator matter: this is a six-month revenue concentration figure, not a claim that one customer represented 73% of full-year revenue or backlog.
Such concentration can accelerate growth when a major customer expands, but it also magnifies the effect of a delayed project, renegotiated contract, credit problem, technology change or purchasing decision. A customer can be financially strong and still change its construction schedule. Review the filing’s customer-concentration footnote, contract commitments, receivables and subsequent revenue disclosures each quarter.
How to interpret Bloom’s backlog
Bloom reported approximately $20 billion of total current backlog, including approximately $6 billion of product backlog, in its FY2025 results. These are company estimates, not recognized revenue. Bloom defines product backlog as revenue attributable to existing contractual commitments to purchase or use Energy Servers, including anticipated investment tax credits and other incentives. Service backlog covers contracted operations and maintenance.
What backlog does and does not tell you
- It can indicate: contracted demand extending beyond the current quarter and potential future product and service activity.
- It does not establish: near-term revenue, cash received, gross profit, operating cash flow or shareholder returns.
- It depends on: customer performance, financing, incentive eligibility, equipment availability, construction and installation schedules, commissioning and the conditions for revenue recognition.
- It can change: through cancellations, amendments, delays, reclassification or updated assumptions about incentives and timing.
When comparing backlog with annual revenue, first identify the contract period and the amount expected to be recognized in the next 12 months. A multi-year service commitment should not be valued as if it were an immediate product sale.
Balance sheet, financing and dilution
Bloom reported $2.667 billion of cash and cash equivalents at June 30, 2026. Management said in the amended Q2 filing that cash plus expected operating cash flows should meet anticipated needs for at least 12 months. That statement is a liquidity assessment, not a guarantee that the company will be profitable or that the equity is attractively priced.
Items to examine in the filings
- Debt principal, interest rates, covenants and maturity dates.
- Convertible debt terms, including conversion prices, settlement choices and potential share issuance.
- Working-capital needs as production and installation volume rises.
- Customer financing arrangements, deposits, receivables and contract assets.
- Capital spending required to expand manufacturing capacity.
- Operating cash flow after customer advances, inventory purchases and project costs.
- Basic and diluted shares outstanding, restricted stock, options and any at-the-market or other equity issuance.
Cash can support expansion and reduce near-term refinancing pressure, but it belongs to the enterprise and may be consumed by inventory, factories, project finance, debt repayment or operating losses. Calculate per-share value using a realistic diluted share count rather than today’s basic share count alone.
Operational and market risks to investigate
Manufacturing scale and quality
Bloom’s filings identify the challenge of ramping manufacturing capacity while maintaining product reliability and quality. Expansion can require substantial capital, trained labor, qualified suppliers and process control. A factory that increases nameplate capacity may still produce less sellable output if yields, testing or field-reliability issues intervene.

Supply availability, tariffs and commodity costs
Component shortages, supplier failures, tariffs and commodity-price changes can raise costs or delay deliveries. Determine whether customer contracts permit price adjustments and whether Bloom has hedges, alternative suppliers or inventory buffers. Higher revenue with lower product margin can destroy the economics of growth.
Installation and project timing
Energy Server projects can involve permitting, site preparation, interconnection, construction and commissioning. Lengthy sales and installation cycles create timing risk: an order may remain in backlog while revenue recognition and cash collection are deferred. Delays can also push incentives into a different period or make a project uneconomic.
Incentives and regulation
Backlog and economics may include investment tax credits or other incentives. Changes in tax law, permitting rules, electricity regulation or subsidy eligibility can alter customer returns and Bloom’s reported backlog. Treat any incentive assumption as conditional until the relevant project qualifies.
Demand cycles in AI data centers
AI-related construction can create a large addressable market, but customer capital budgets, power availability, chip cycles and data-center utilization can change. Avoid valuing the company on a permanent extrapolation of one infrastructure boom. Track signed contracts, construction starts and actual deliveries rather than announcements alone.

Best Value
A disciplined valuation framework
No current October 2026 share quote, valuation multiple or price target was verified in the available company materials. Therefore, an attractive or unattractive valuation cannot be stated responsibly here. Use a current market data source and then document the assumptions behind each scenario.
Build the equity-value bridge
- Record the current share price and the date and market session it represents.
- Multiply by a diluted share count that includes in-the-money awards and the potential effect of convertible debt.
- Add debt and other debt-like obligations, then subtract cash and cash equivalents to estimate enterprise value.
- Choose an operating measure—revenue, GAAP operating income, free cash flow or a clearly reconciled non-GAAP measure—and make the forecast period explicit.
- Apply a multiple justified by growth, margin durability, customer concentration, balance-sheet risk and comparable businesses with genuinely similar economics.
- Run at least a base, downside and upside case, then test how per-share value changes when revenue, gross margin, dilution or the multiple changes.
Scenario questions
| Scenario | Operating assumptions to test | Investor question |
|---|---|---|
| Upside | Major projects commission on schedule; manufacturing expansion works; gross margin improves; service revenue grows. | Is the implied valuation still reasonable after allowing for dilution and execution costs? |
| Base | Guidance is achieved near the midpoint; customer concentration remains high; cash flow improves gradually. | What multiple is justified for a company that is growing but still exposed to one dominant customer? |
| Downside | A key order slips or is canceled; factory ramp costs rise; incentives change; margin or cash conversion disappoints. | Can Bloom fund operations and commitments without expensive new debt or equity? |
Do not use the approximately $20 billion backlog as a direct substitute for forecast revenue in a valuation model. Assign recognition timing, cancellation probabilities, expected margins and cash-collection assumptions to the portion that can reasonably be modeled.
Metrics to monitor after purchase
- Quarterly revenue by product, installation, service and electricity categories.
- GAAP gross margin and the bridge to non-GAAP margin.
- GAAP operating income, net loss attributable to common stockholders and operating cash flow.
- Customer concentration, receivables and contract assets.
- Product and service backlog, with changes in definition, timing or incentive assumptions.
- Factory capacity, utilization, quality indicators and warranty or service costs.
- Cash, debt maturities, capital spending and diluted shares.
- Guidance revisions and the specific operational reason for each change.
Practical steps before placing an order
- Read the latest filings. Start with the FY2025 Form 10-K filed February 9, 2026, then the Q2 2026 results exhibit and the amended Form 10-Q filed July 29, 2026. Confirm that no later filing changes the figures.
- Reconcile the numbers. Tie revenue, gross margin, operating income, net loss and cash to the statements, and keep GAAP and non-GAAP measures in separate columns.
- Check concentration and contracts. Identify the largest customer, project milestones, payment terms and any related-party sales.
- Refresh the capital structure. Update shares outstanding, convertibles, options, debt and cash using the most recent filing before calculating market capitalization or enterprise value.
- Model downside first. Stress a delayed project, lower margin, slower backlog conversion and additional dilution. Decide what evidence would invalidate the thesis.
- Use an order type and position size consistent with your risk tolerance. A concentrated, execution-sensitive company can produce large price moves even when its long-term opportunity remains intact.
Bottom line
Bloom Energy offers exposure to on-site power demand and could benefit if data-center and industrial customers convert planned projects into profitable Energy Server deployments. The evidence also includes a 37.3% FY2025 revenue increase, a 33.4% Q2 2026 GAAP gross margin and raised FY2026 guidance. Against that, FY2025 ended with an $88.4 million net loss attributable to common stockholders, approximately 73% of six-month 2026 revenue came from one customer, and backlog remains dependent on contracts, incentives, installation and conversion.
Whether the shares are worth buying depends on the current price and a transparent forecast for margins, cash flow, dilution and downside risk. Verify those inputs immediately before investing; company growth and guidance alone do not establish a buy rating.
