The genre usually means automatic attacks against hordes while you focus on upgrades, but that label does not guarantee a particular pace, control scheme, co-op mode, or performance on your PC.
What is a bullet heaven game?
Valve’s Steam tag wording, reproduced in PC Gamer’s May 18, 2026 report, defines Bullet Heaven as “The opposite of Bullet Hell; Focus on upgrades while automatically attacking hordes of enemies.” In practice, expect to manage movement and choose upgrades while much of your damage happens automatically. Individual games can still differ in how much they ask you to aim, plan a build, or engage with other systems.

“Bullet heaven,” “survivors-like,” and related tags are useful discovery clues, not promises that games will play alike. The Vampire Survivors Steam page, for example, calls it “a time survival game with minimalistic gameplay and roguelite elements,” and uses store tags including Action Roguelike, Bullet Hell, Roguelite, and Singleplayer. That overlap is a reminder to judge the actual game rather than relying on one genre label.

What should you check on the Steam page?
Attack style and run progression
Read the description and inspect screenshots or videos. Look for whether attacks are automatic or require aiming, how much of the screen fills with enemies and effects, and whether play centers on surviving a run, building a character, or other systems. If you are comparing games, note what upgrades carry over between runs; the genre label alone does not answer that.

Modes, controls, and language
Check the listed player modes and supported input methods, along with the language information. Do not assume local co-op, online co-op, controller support, or a particular accessibility option is included just because another game in the genre offers it. Vampire Survivors’ listing says it supports mouse, keyboard, controller, and touchscreen, and advertises local co-op for up to four players. Those are facts about that title, not the genre as a whole.
Operating system and minimum requirements
Compare the system requirements with the computer you intend to use. As a title-specific example, the Vampire Survivors Steam page lists these minimums:
Rank #2
- Windows: Windows 10 64-bit, an x64 CPU with SSE2, 1 GB RAM, DX11/DX12-capable graphics, and 2.5 GB storage.
- macOS: macOS 10.14 or later, with Apple Silicon or Intel x64.
These are the listing’s stated minimums for Vampire Survivors, not a guide to what other games need or a guarantee of a particular frame rate. Requirements and supported systems can change, so consult the current page for the exact title and edition.
Price, DLC, and bundles
Look at whether downloadable content or bundles are optional or included, and what each offer contains. The Vampire Survivors page presents separate DLC and bundle options; contents and prices can change. Prices, discounts, tags, and review data are also dynamic, so check the live store page rather than treating an old price or review percentage as current buying advice.

Recent player feedback
Read recent reviews for comments relevant to your own priorities: control feel, performance, co-op, or changes after updates. A review percentage or count is a moving snapshot, not a lasting quality guarantee. If comparing review summaries, note the language or geography filter and when you checked them.
How to compare two survivors-likes
Use the same questions for each candidate so that a shared genre tag does not hide meaningful differences:
Rank #4
- 512 GB NVMe SSD: Fast storage for quicker game load times and space for larger game libraries.
- OLED Display: 1200x800 resolution with deep contrasts and vibrant colors for a captivating visual experience.
- Custom AMD APU: Power-efficient Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU for desktop-level gaming performance.
- Expandable Storage: Add more space with a microSD card slot, ensuring you can bring even more games with you.
- Versatile Controls: With built-in thumbsticks, trackpads, and touchscreen controls, you have full control over your gaming experience.
- Are attacks automatic, aimed, or a mix? How demanding is movement?
- How long is a typical run, and what—if anything—persists between runs?
- Does it support solo play, local co-op, online co-op, or only some of these?
- Which input methods and language options are listed? Are the accessibility options you need documented?
- Does your operating system meet the stated minimum requirements?
- Are DLC and bundles optional, and what is included in each?
- What do recent reviews say about the specific issues that matter to you?
These are comparison questions, not claims that every Steam page provides complete answers. If a detail is missing, do not infer it from a neighboring game’s features or from the tag.

Yes. Its Steam listing says controller support is available, alongside mouse, keyboard, and touchscreen support. A PC game controller is an optional choice if you prefer gamepad input; check the individual game’s page before buying for controller use, since support is not assured across the genre.

- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
Can you refund a Steam game if you do not like it?
Steam’s refund policy says, “You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason.” For games, the usual conditions are that you request it within 14 days of purchase and have played for less than two hours. Steam says you may still submit a request outside those conditions for review, but approval is not guaranteed. The policy page was last updated April 23, 2024; check Steam’s current refund policy for applicable terms and local rules, and contact Steam Support to submit a request.
