The Kmart Anko Cordless Stick Vacuum 42742678 is a light, small-capacity cordless cleaner with a CHOICE-listed price of $149, but the public information does not show its individual lab-test results. CHOICE’s 2024 coverage raises concerns about the tested Anko stick-vac range—especially carpet and edge cleaning—without identifying which of two low scores belongs to this exact model. Consider it only if its size, price and intended jobs suit you, and weigh the potential battery and filter costs before buying.
What this review can—and cannot—establish
This is the Anko Cordless Stick Vacuum identified as item 42742678, not another Anko vacuum with a similar name. CHOICE has a separate product page for this model, but its detailed performance scores are available only to members. The public page therefore supports a review of its listed specifications and the available range-level context, not a precise verdict on this model’s cleaning performance.

CHOICE’s consumer advice article, last updated 3 September 2024, says the $129 and $149 Anko models performed worse than the cheaper $79 model. It reports scores of 59% and 63% for the two higher-priced models but does not publicly map each score to a particular SKU. Neither number should be treated as the rating for item 42742678. How the available performance evidence should shape expectations
Carpet and edges deserve particular caution
In its 2024 article, CHOICE describes carpet and corner cleaning as general weaknesses among the Anko stick vacuums it tested. That is useful range-level warning context, but it is not a published test result for item 42742678 specifically. If carpet pickup or cleaning along walls is a priority, do not assume this model will meet your needs based on its specifications alone.

Other tasks are not established for this exact model
CHOICE says some tested Anko models performed well for pet hair or car cleaning, but the public article does not establish that those results apply to item 42742678. Its product page lists the areas CHOICE evaluates, while withholding this model’s scores. Treat claims about pet hair, car interiors, hard-floor pickup, running time and ease of use as unverified for this exact SKU unless you can consult the full model-specific results or test it yourself.
Price and likely ownership costs
The $149 figure is a listed CHOICE price, not a verified current Kmart price or stock status. Compare the checkout price where you shop, then account for parts: CHOICE gives a $68 replacement-battery example for the $149 model and says replacement filters ranged from $2 for foam to $15 for stainless-steel mesh in its 2024 article. Those are source examples, not guaranteed current prices or proof that a part fits every unit. Confirm compatibility with item 42742678 before ordering any battery, filter or other spare.

Who should consider it?
- Potentially a fit: You are considering this specific SKU at a confirmed price, have a limited or clearly defined cleaning job, and accept that the public evidence does not establish its exact-model performance scores.
- Look more carefully before buying: Your home has substantial carpet, edge cleaning is important, or you rely on strong evidence for pet-hair or car-interior pickup. The range-level findings are cautionary, and exact-model results are not public.
- Check the full cost: You want to keep a vacuum for years and would need to replace its battery or filters. Verify compatible parts and current prices before treating the initial price as the total cost.
How to compare it with another vacuum
Use the same tasks and costs for each candidate rather than comparing headline specifications alone:
- Cleaning: Find model-specific evidence for your floor types and jobs—hard floors, carpet, pet hair, car interiors and edges. Do not transfer results from a similarly named Anko model.
- Handling: Compare weight, dust capacity and included tools against how often you will carry, empty or store the vacuum.
- Cost over time: Check today’s selling price as well as compatible battery and filter prices.
- Evidence: Keep published specifications separate from controlled test results, customer comments and findings that apply only to a product range.
Verdict
The 42742678 has straightforward published specifications, but they are not enough to establish how well it cleans. CHOICE’s public evidence gives reason to be cautious about the Anko stick-vac range, particularly for carpet and edges, while leaving this exact model’s test scores undisclosed. It is a conditional option if its verified price and your use case make sense; buyers who need dependable carpet or edge performance should seek model-specific results before committing.
