As of 2 October 2026, Starlink, Jio and OneWeb are not three satellite-internet services that Indian households can choose between: all three have GMPCS authorisations, but still need spectrum assignment and other clearances before commercial broadband can be offered. None has a confirmed India consumer launch date or a comparable retail plan in the available reporting. An authorisation is not a launch announcement.
1. None is yet a live consumer option in India
The Economic Times reported on 2 October 2026 that all three providers had GMPCS authorisations but still needed spectrum assignment and security or other regulatory requirements cleared before commercial service. The status and offer details differ by provider:

| Provider | What is established | India consumer price and launch date |
|---|---|---|
| Starlink | The Economic Times reported that Starlink Satellite Communications Pvt. Ltd. held GMPCS authorisation. Its commercial service in India had not launched as of 2 October 2026. | No confirmed consumer price or commercial launch date, according to The Economic Times, 2 October 2026. |
| Jio | The Economic Times reported that Jio Satellite Communications held GMPCS authorisation. JioSpaceFiber is described as using SES satellite capacity to serve places conventional networks struggle to reach; a proposed longer-term Jio LEO network is a separate initiative, not a live retail service. | No confirmed consumer price or commercial launch date, according to The Economic Times, 2 October 2026. |
| Eutelsat OneWeb | The Economic Times reported that OneWeb India held GMPCS authorisation, had previously received IN-SPACe commercial broadband authorisation, and was waiting for final spectrum authorisation. It also reported a Nelco distribution partnership for LEO connectivity on land, at sea and in the air; that does not establish a direct-to-consumer plan. | No confirmed Indian consumer tariff or commercial launch date, according to The Economic Times, 2 October 2026. |
These distinctions matter: a provider authorisation, a commercial broadband authorisation, a distribution partnership and a consumer offer are different things. None on its own tells a household when it can order service.
2. A spectrum process is not a customer launch approval
TRAI released a consultation on satellite network authorisation and spectrum assignment on 8 April 2026. It closed on 13 May 2026, and the page was updated on 6 October 2026. A consultation records a policy process; it should not be read as final permission for any provider to start selling broadband. The remaining approvals and provider availability should be checked against current Department of Telecommunications notices and official provider information when considering a future offer.
#1 Best Overall
- Gen 3 Satellite Dish: Third-generation antenna delivers a stronger, more stable signal and faster performance.
- Wi-Fi 6 Router: Modern router technology supports faster speeds, increased device capacity, and better efficiency.
- Extra 150FT Cable Included: Extended reach for more flexible installation in large spaces or hard-to-access locations.
- High-Speed, Low-Latency Internet: Stream HD content, video conference, or work remotely with confidence.
- Ideal for Rural and Remote Areas: Perfect for homes, cabins, RVs, boats, and off-grid setups where wired internet isn’t available.
3. The clearest use case is a place terrestrial networks do not reach well
Satellite internet is most relevant where laying or extending terrestrial infrastructure is difficult: remote villages, hilly terrain, border areas and islands. The Government of India’s September 2025 backgrounder describes satellite connectivity as complementary to other networks, rather than a replacement for every mobile or fixed-line connection.
That context is significant in a country where the Government of India reported 1,002.85 million internet subscribers for April–June 2025 and about 46 rural internet subscribers per 100 population in 2025. Those figures indicate both the scale of connectivity and the remaining rural gap; they do not predict where any one provider will offer service.

- 🚀 Next-Generation Connectivity: Enjoy lightning-fast, low-latency internet powered by SpaceX’s Standard Dish — ideal for homes, farms, and rural or remote areas.
- 📶 Enhanced Wi-Fi 6 Router: Includes the latest dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router delivering stronger coverage, faster speeds, and improved reliability for multiple connected devices.
- ⚡️ Easy Plug-and-Play Setup: Simple installation with all required cables and mounts included — connect, power on, and get online in minutes.
- 🌦️ Rugged & Weather-Resistant Design: Built to perform in extreme environments — rain, snow, or high winds — for year-round connectivity.
- 🏕️ Residential & Remote-Area Ready: Perfect for off-grid living, cabins, RVs, and rural households seeking a dependable high-speed internet solution.
4. Orbit can explain a network’s design, but not prove which service is better
The Government of India’s September 2025 backgrounder gives typical altitude ranges of 400–2,000 km for low Earth orbit (LEO) and 8,000–20,000 km for medium Earth orbit (MEO). It explains that LEO’s proximity enables lower latency, while MEO satellites cover larger regions with somewhat higher latency. These are broad technical descriptions, not India-specific performance measurements of Starlink, Jio and OneWeb against one another.

Starlink’s official specifications describe a kit containing a user terminal, Wi-Fi router, power supply and mount, and note that performance depends on factors such as location, time, plan, installation and equipment condition. Those documents do not establish India availability or validate a particular India-ready kit.

5. Treat prices and comparisons as unconfirmed until India plans are published
Why leaked figures are not an offer
The Economic Times reported that Starlink had not officially announced an India residential price. Figures of ₹8,600 per month and ₹34,000 for equipment appeared briefly on its India website in December 2025, but Starlink operations vice-president Lauren Dreyer said on X that a technical glitch had exposed test figures that did not represent actual India pricing. Do not use those amounts as a quote or budget. The same report found no confirmed consumer price for Jio or OneWeb.
What to compare when a service can actually be ordered
Once providers publish India-specific offers, compare the terms that determine both availability and the real cost of using the connection:
- Address-level availability: Check whether the provider can serve the exact location and whether the offer is for household use, business use or distribution through a partner.
- Total setup cost: Add the terminal, mount, installation, power needs and any recurring fees, rather than comparing only a monthly charge.
- Realistic performance: Look for advertised and typical download and upload speeds, latency, and any conditions on those figures.
- Data and congestion rules: Check for data caps, prioritisation or reduced speeds during congestion.
- Site constraints: Confirm clear-sky requirements, weather limitations and any installation restrictions for the property.
- Support and exit terms: Read the support, contract, cancellation and equipment-replacement policies before committing.
Until those India-specific details are public, a winner cannot be established from authorisations, orbit class or unconfirmed prices alone.
