Shepherds of the Abyss is a tower-defense game from Impulse Games, released on Steam on November 17, 2016. Its listed modes are single-player survival, cooperative survival and head-to-head 1v1. The game’s store description presents “mazing”—placing towers to make the route to your throne as long as possible—as a core skill. Random obstacles and waypoints change the board, so one memorized layout may not suit every match. Steam’s game listing describes the modes and mechanics.

Gold, souls and tower choices
- Gold pays for building towers and upgrading them.
- Souls harvested from units that die can empower towers between waves, adding strength or functions such as damage over time or snares.
- Unit buffs include armor, speed, regeneration and shields. The store description says towers can counter these buffs, making tower selection and placement important.
Preparation and combat
Each round has a Preparation Phase for building, upgrading and empowering towers, followed by a Combat Phase when units attack and souls are harvested. In preparation, the incoming wave’s buffs appear in a grid. Adjacent buffs multiply each other’s strength, and players have a limited number of moves to separate matching buffs.

- Check the incoming wave’s buffs before using preparation moves. Separate adjacent matching buffs when your limited moves allow it.
- Choose towers that answer the wave’s buff profile, then place them to extend the enemy route without leaving important sections uncovered.
- Budget gold for construction and upgrades; use souls for between-wave tower empowerment. They serve different purposes, so plan around both rather than treating them as interchangeable.
- Adapt your maze to the current obstacles and waypoints instead of assuming a fixed path will work on every board.
Achievement objectives and planning
Steam lists 19 achievements. Its page confirms the total and shows examples, but a full official English achievement list was not available in the sources here. The listed objectives suggest a straightforward route: finish the tutorial, then work on survival milestones in the mode you prefer. Co-op thresholds require another player; 1v1 progress includes both participation and winning; challenge completion and the single-capture soul target are separate goals. The third-party listing does not establish matchmaking availability, current unlock reliability or whether every objective remains obtainable.
