Chewy Autoship is a recurring-order service, not a single discount code. You select eligible pet products, choose a delivery frequency, and Chewy places the first enrolled order immediately. Later orders are created automatically on that schedule until you cancel. You can skip, reschedule, edit, or cancel an individual upcoming shipment, but each shipment has a cutoff that is separate from ending the subscription.
This US guide explains the current advertised discounts, timing, billing, prescription rules, price changes, and the exact cancellation paths. Promotional terms were checked against Chewy’s US pages on October 13, 2026; verify the live item label and checkout total before enrolling because offers and eligibility can change.

How Chewy Autoship works
Autoship repeats purchases of products you add to the program. On the product page, choose Add to Autoship, select how often you want the item, and complete checkout. Chewy processes that initial enrolled order right away. Afterward, the subscription automatically creates another order at each scheduled interval until you cancel it. Chewy’s terms describe the mechanism this way: “Your subscription will thereafter automatically create a new order according to your chosen delivery schedule, until you cancel.” (Autoship & Save Terms and Conditions.)
The schedule belongs to the item or Autoship plan, while each generated shipment is its own order. That distinction matters: changing or canceling the next order does not necessarily end future shipments, and canceling the subscription does not automatically reverse an order that has already passed its processing cutoff.

Choosing products and frequency
Only products marked as eligible receive an Autoship & Save discount. Chewy says you should use the item’s package information and feeding, dosage, or usage instructions to estimate how long it will last; there is no universally correct frequency for every pet or household. If a product cannot be sent repeatedly, its page may instead offer Ship Once With Next Autoship, which adds it to one upcoming shipment without making it recurring.
From your account’s Manage Autoship area, you can later change the products included, shipping address, payment method, and schedule. An Autoship remains active until you cancel it.

The percentages are Chewy-published promotional figures, not an independent estimate of typical annual savings. Shipping charges and sales tax can still apply. Before placing an order, look for the live Autoship & Save eligibility label on the exact item and confirm the discount in checkout. The pharmacy offer is described on Chewy’s separate promotion page; prescription products, exclusions, and the expiration date should be rechecked there because pharmacy terms are particularly changeable.

When an upcoming shipment can be changed
Chewy’s timing rules create two different windows: one for editing a specific order and another for changing the recurring plan.
The reminder and order cutoff
Under the US terms, Chewy sends a pre-shipment email up to 72 hours before the selected ship date. It lists the items, prices, scheduled date, and the period in which changes are allowed. From the time that notice arrives through 12:00 AM the day before the designated ship date, you can edit or cancel that individual order. If you do nothing by the cutoff, Chewy authorizes the order and begins preparing it.
Changing frequency versus changing the next date
The help instructions make an important distinction:

- Frequency: Change the recurring interval in the Frequency section. The new interval takes effect after the next order date; it does not automatically move the order that is already scheduled.
- Next order date: Use the Next Order section to select a different date. Chewy says this can be changed up to 48 hours before the next scheduled order. Moving the date does not change the underlying frequency.
- Skip Shipment: Skip the next shipment when you need more time before the following delivery. Skipping is not the same as canceling the Autoship.
- Order Now: Request an earlier order if you are running short. This creates an order sooner without necessarily changing the long-term interval.
You can also add or remove products in Manage Autoship. Review the next-order date after every change; a frequency adjustment and a date adjustment are separate controls.

How to cancel Autoship
Chewy says you may cancel at any time and does not describe a cancellation fee. To stop future scheduled orders through your account:
- Sign in to your Chewy account and open Manage Autoship.
- Select the Autoship you want to end.
- Choose Cancel This Autoship and complete the confirmation prompts.
- Check the account page or confirmation message to make sure the plan no longer shows as active.
You can also ask customer service to cancel at 1-800-672-4399. Cancellation stops future subscription-generated orders; it is not a guaranteed reversal of an order already authorized or being prepared. If a reminder has arrived, use that message’s edit or cancel link before the stated cutoff as well, then verify the order status. An order that has already entered processing may require separate assistance, and cancellation of the recurring plan alone may not stop it.
Prices, authorization holds, and the final charge
The amount can differ from one Autoship shipment to the next. Chewy’s terms say the product price is the amount shown in the pre-shipment email or a lower price displayed on the site when the order is authorized. The final total then reflects applicable discounts, shipping charges, and sales tax. Chewy also identifies price, availability, shipping charges, taxes, and program benefits as details that can change over time.
That pre-shipment email is therefore the practical checkpoint before every shipment. If the price is higher than expected, use the permitted edit window to remove the item, cancel that individual order, or adjust the plan before the cutoff.

Why a pending amount may appear on your card
If you do not cancel by the deadline, Chewy places a payment authorization hold while preparing the order. A hold temporarily reduces available credit but is not itself the final charge. Chewy says the selected payment method is billed when the order is processed or shipped. If that method fails, Chewy may use another valid payment method associated with the account. A pending authorization and a completed charge can therefore appear at different times; check the order status and your card issuer’s pending-versus-posted labels before treating them as duplicate charges.
Prescription medication and veterinary diets
Prescription medication can be scheduled only when Chewy has a valid prescription or remaining refills on file. Veterinary diet products require veterinarian authorization before shipment. If approval is missing or a prescription is expiring, Chewy says its team may contact the veterinarian and may ask you for additional information. Autoship controls the ordering schedule; it does not replace a veterinarian’s instructions. Do not start, stop, or change a treatment because a recurring shipment is available.
Where the US program applies
The US Autoship terms state that program products are available for shipping within the 48 contiguous United States. This article does not apply Canadian offer amounts or deadlines. Selecting Autoship on an eligible item means accepting the Autoship-specific terms in addition to Chewy’s general Terms of Use.

A practical sign-up checklist
- Confirm that the exact product page displays an Autoship eligibility label.
- Estimate how long the item will last for your pet instead of choosing a frequency solely for the discount.
- Record the next order date and set a calendar reminder before the expected 72-hour notice.
- Review the first-order cap, future select-brand limitation, exclusions, shipping, and tax at checkout.
- For medication or veterinary diets, verify that the prescription, refills, or authorization will still be valid at shipment time.
- Keep a current payment method and shipping address on the account.
- Decide whether you are comfortable with an authorization hold and possible use of another valid payment method if the selected one fails.
Common situations and the right response
You need more time before the next delivery
Use Skip Shipment or move the next order date. If the next order is within the 48-hour date-change limit or the individual-order cutoff has passed, contact customer service promptly rather than assuming a later frequency change will affect that shipment.
You are running out sooner than expected
Use Order Now for an earlier shipment, then separately adjust the recurring frequency if the product will continue to be used faster. Ordering early does not by itself rewrite the underlying interval.
The item became more expensive or unavailable
Check the pre-shipment email and the item page. Before the individual-order cutoff, remove the item, cancel that shipment, or change the Autoship contents. Because availability and prices can change, do not assume the first order’s amount or stock status will be preserved indefinitely.
You canceled but still see an order
Look at whether you canceled the Autoship plan or only an individual shipment, and check whether the order had already been authorized. A plan cancellation prevents future scheduled orders but may not stop a shipment already in preparation. Use the order number and reminder email when contacting customer service.
Bottom line for prospective subscribers
Autoship is most useful when you routinely buy an eligible product and are willing to monitor a recurring schedule. The advertised 35% first-order discount is capped at $20, and the 5% future discount is limited to select brands and eligible items; neither should be treated as a guaranteed program-wide saving. The safest routine is to review each pre-shipment email, make changes before the stated cutoff, and cancel from Manage Autoship as soon as you no longer need automatic orders.
