They do not publish a definitive coach-by-coach berth map, bay diagram or complete cabin-position chart. The first operating Vande Bharat Sleeper service
The Ministry of Railways’ parliamentary answer issued in 2026 identifies Howrah–Kamakhya trains 27575 and 27576 as the first regular Vande Bharat Sleeper service. Regular operation began on 22 January 2026. The route links Howrah in West Bengal with Kamakhya in Assam; some official descriptions refer more broadly to the Howrah–Guwahati corridor because Kamakhya serves the Guwahati area.

At the trainset unveiling on 1 September 2024, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called the trainset a “world-class travel experience and best-in-class amenities.” That is a ministerial description of the launch, not an independent performance assessment.
Published coach formation and berth capacity
The official September 2024 formation table, reaffirmed in later material for the train that entered service, gives the following operating capacity:

The figures are class totals for the 16-coach formation, not a seating chart. They tell you how much capacity exists in each class but do not establish which coach is next to the locomotive, how many berths are in each individual bay, or whether a particular First Class coach is arranged as cabins or compartments on every operating rake.

Why some older publicity says 1,128 passengers
A February 2025 PIB release gave 1,128 as the trainset’s total capacity. That earlier figure should not be combined with the later operating figures. For the 16-coach service that entered regular operation, use the later, class-by-class total of 823 berths. The two numbers describe different stages or configurations of the project, and the official record does not support treating them as interchangeable.
Facilities you can expect on board
Sleeping berths and upper-berth access
Ministry descriptions specify cushioned, ergonomically designed berths. Upper berths are paired with an ergonomically designed ladder intended to make climbing and descending easier than a basic metal step arrangement. These are design features announced for the trainset; comfort still depends on mattress firmness, bedding provision, passenger load and the condition of the particular rake.

The published material does not state a separate berth-width measurement, bedding policy, curtain specification or exact bay dimensions. Do not assume that every comfort detail from an introductory photograph or prototype demonstration is included on every date of operation.
Reading lights and USB charging
The trainset announcement lists individual reading lights with USB charging provision. Later Ministry material also refers to USB charging ports. Keep a conventional charger or power bank as a backup: the official descriptions establish the presence of USB facilities, but they do not promise a particular charging speed, connector type for every socket or uninterrupted power throughout the trip.

Luggage storage
Official facility descriptions identify three luggage zones:
- Overhead racks for bags that can be lifted safely above the berth.
- Under-berth storage for smaller luggage.
- Dedicated space near coach entrances for larger suitcases.
Capacity and access to the entrance area can vary with how passengers load the train. Keep medication, identification, electronics and anything needed overnight at your berth instead of placing it in a remote luggage area.
Toilets, hygiene and the announced First Class shower
The train is described as having modern toilets and disinfectant technology. The September 2024 trainset announcement specifically named an odour-free toilet system and a hot-water shower in the First AC car.

The shower is an announced trainset feature, not a guarantee that every operating rake or every departure will offer a functioning shower. Verify the facility for your travel date through current railway information or at the station. The official descriptions also do not establish shower hours, towels, toiletries or a separate charge.
Doors, gangways and movement between coaches
Safety and facility releases list centrally controlled automatic plug doors and sealed, wider gangways. Another PIB description refers to vestibules between coaches. Together, these features are intended to make inter-coach movement more controlled and to reduce exposure to outside air and trackside conditions. Follow crew instructions: automatic doors are not a reason to force a closed door or attempt movement while the train is starting or stopping.
Food and regional menus
The January 2026 Ministry release described region-specific food: Assamese cuisine for a service originating from Guwahati and Bengali delicacies for one originating from Kolkata. This indicates a catering plan rather than a fixed menu for every departure. Menu items, meal inclusion, vegetarian or special-diet choices and service times should be checked for the exact booking and date.
Facilities for passengers with disabilities
Trainset material lists special berths and toilets for passengers with disabilities. Later descriptions also mention a special lavatory in the driving coaches at both ends. These provisions do not mean that every berth, toilet or doorway is accessible. When booking, select the appropriate passenger category, request assistance in advance where available and confirm the coach location and boarding arrangements with railway staff.
What “berth layout” is—and is not—confirmed
For this train, “berth layout” can mean two different things. The official record confirms the class mix and total number of berths, but it does not provide a public, authoritative diagram showing every coach number, bay, berth number, side berth, cabin or coupe. A capacity total cannot safely be converted into such a diagram because coach interiors, rake assignments and numbering can change.

- AC 3-tier is the largest section, with 11 coaches and 611 berths.
- AC 2-tier has four coaches and 188 berths.
- AC First Class has one coach and 24 berths.
- The complete 16-coach formation is published at 823 berths.
What you must check in the live booking view
Use the current booking display to see the berth choices that are actually available. Check the coach code, berth number, boarding station and chart status after reservation. The live display, rather than a social-media diagram or an unofficial coach sketch, is the appropriate source for whether your assignment is an upper, middle, lower or side berth and where that berth sits in the coach.
If you need a cabin-style arrangement, privacy, proximity to a doorway or an accessible position, do not infer it from the class name alone. Ask railway support or station staff what the current rake provides and select only options shown by the booking system.
Comparing the three classes using verified information

The sources do not establish current fares, the exact privacy arrangement of each class, coach sequence, berth dimensions or a guaranteed shower on every departure. Treat those as booking-date questions rather than permanent specifications.

Ministry safety descriptions include the KAVACH train-protection system, crashworthy coach design, semi-permanent couplers and anti-climbers, fire-barrier doors, aerosol fire detection and suppression in electrical cabinets and lavatories, CCTV in all coaches, emergency talk-back units and centralized coach-condition monitoring.
The train also completed a CRS-supervised final high-speed trial at 180 km/h on the Kota–Nagda section. Parliamentary material distinguishes a 180 km/h design speed from a 160 km/h operating speed. Therefore, 180 km/h is a design or trial capability, not the speed you should expect for an ordinary passenger journey. Actual speed is constrained by route geometry, signalling, traffic, station stops and operating instructions.

Route time, distance and historical fare guidance
January 2026 Ministry material described the first service as covering approximately 966 km in about 14 hours, compared with around 17 hours for the Saraighat Express. Those are indicative comparisons, not a permanent timetable promise. Delays, engineering work, seasonal conditions and timetable revisions can change the result.

Use the official booking and timetable systems for the fare displayed on your origin, destination, quota and travel date. Do not treat the January 2026 figures as recurring prices.
How to verify your exact berth before travelling
- Search the train pair. Enter 27575 or 27576, your stations and date in the official railway booking interface.
- Choose the class. Select 3AC, 2AC or First AC and review the availability shown for that departure.
- Inspect berth preferences. Submit your preference, but remember that a preference is not a guarantee; the system assigns berths according to availability and railway rules.
- Record the coach and berth number. Check the ticket or reservation details after payment and again after chart preparation.
- Confirm changes at the station. Rake assignment, coach position and berth allocation can change. Read the station display and ask railway staff if your coach differs from an earlier indication.
- Plan accessibility or special needs early. Contact the railway through its current assistance channels if you need the special berth, lavatory or boarding support described for the trainset.
What remains changeable
The regular service, timetable, fares, operating days, catering, menus and equipment on a specific rake are operational details. The published features are the best indication of intended provision, but a facility can be unavailable because of maintenance, a rake substitution or a service decision. Current railway notices and the booking record take precedence over launch announcements.
The stable information is the published operating formation: 16 coaches and 823 berths divided among 11 3AC, four 2AC and one First AC coach. The unresolved detail is the precise berth map for each coach and each departure; obtain that from the live reservation and current railway information rather than constructing a diagram from aggregate counts.
