The Kiprun Kipstorm Tempo is designed for tempo and threshold workouts, intervals, and races up to a half marathon. Its high-stack, neutral platform and foam-plus-EVA midsole aim to provide a propulsive ride without a carbon plate. Kiprun’s performance percentages are manufacturer claims, while the available independent review reflects one runner’s experience—not a controlled comparison.
What kind of running shoe is the Kipstorm Tempo?
Kiprun positions the Kipstorm Tempo as a road shoe for tempo and threshold runs, short-to-long intervals, and racing through half-marathon distance. The brand also lists hard-packed paths as suitable terrain. It describes the shoe as neutral and says it has no pronation-control technology. See Kiprun’s U.S. men’s product page for its stated use and design.

That intended-use description makes it a workout-oriented option rather than a shoe the manufacturer specifically presents as a daily trainer for all-purpose mileage. One independent reviewer found it usable at easier paces too, but that is an individual observation, not a guarantee that it will suit every runner’s routine.
How the midsole and geometry are designed
Foam and the claimed “plate effect”
Kiprun combines FASTECH+ foam with a lightweight CMEVA layer in a dual-density midsole. The brand says the CMEVA layer contributes a plate-like propulsive effect, but the shoe does not have a carbon plate. Kiprun describes the design as delivering the “snap” of a racing shoe without the aggressive rigidity of a carbon plate. Treat that as the manufacturer’s explanation of its design, not proof that the shoe performs like a plated racer.

What does the independent review say about the ride?
In a review published April 12, 2026, Tom’s Guide said its reviewer ran 50 miles in the shoe across easy, steady, interval, tempo, and long-run sessions. The reviewer described it as nimble at faster paces, comfortable over a 15-mile long run, and capable of handling easier running. These are one reviewer’s impressions, not lab results or a consensus finding. Read the Tom’s Guide review for the full account.

That reviewer also reported reliable grip during wet-condition runs and described rubber covering the heel and forefoot. This observation does not establish long-term durability or guarantee grip in every surface and weather condition.
How should you think about fit?
Tom’s Guide’s reviewer said Kiprun shoes often run long for them and that going down half a size produced their best fit in this model. They also described a close toe fit, especially on the outside of the foot, where rubbing was possible without causing significant discomfort in their experience. That is one person’s fit report, not a universal sizing rule.
Rank #4
- Mesh on upper adds breathability.
- Foam midsole delivers a soft ride.
- Flex grooves create a cushioned effect for your run.
- Waffle outsole is a made of a durable, flexible material that helps keep you on the move.
- HM9594-102
If possible, try the shoe on and check toe-box comfort and security at the pace and with the socks you expect to use. The reviewer found the tongue-free Sockfit upper breathable enough in mild or cold conditions; this too is a personal observation, not a claim about performance in heat.
Price and availability depend on where you shop

Tom’s Guide reported a U.S. launch price of $170 in April 2026; that is launch-price context, not a statement of the current U.S. price. Who is the Kipstorm Tempo best suited to?
It is most directly aimed at runners looking for a high-stack shoe for tempo or threshold work, intervals, or racing up to a half marathon, and who are open to a neutral shoe without a carbon plate. Whether its particular fit and ride work for you is harder to determine from specifications alone.
When comparing it with another road shoe, look at the same size and market for weight; compare heel and forefoot stack and drop; and check intended workout and race distances, plate construction, upper shape, and local return terms. Reviewer impressions about cushioning, pace changes, grip, and stability are useful context, but they are not standardized measurements. The available sources do not provide a controlled head-to-head test, standardized durability mileage, or independent measurement of Kiprun’s rebound and cushioning claims.
