Running out of Refining Stones in Aion 2 is usually a grade mismatch, not a broken crafting system. Check the recipe first, identify the exact stone tier it consumes, then use a source that awards that tier. Common Refining Stones are for common gear, Expert’s for rare gear, Artisan’s for epic gear, and Artisan’s Ultimate for unique Dragon Lord gear. Achievements, Expeditions, the Shugo Festival, field content, Supply Requests and the Market can all matter, but their value depends on the grade, your access level and whether the reward is repeatable.
Identify the stone you actually need
Do not farm the first Refining Stone source you find. The item grade in the recipe determines which tier is valid, and a surplus of a lower tier will not solve a shortage of a higher one.

The grade mapping above comes from a current guide based on Aion 2 Global launcher client version 27 data, read on October 9, 2026 and updated October 11. Treat it as a current-client finding rather than a permanent rule: a balance patch can alter a recipe or reward.
Use the crafting recipe as your first diagnostic
- Open the equipment or crafting interface and select the exact item variant you want.
- Read the material list, including the full stone name and quantity.
- Compare that name with the stones in your inventory, storage and any account-wide material screen.
- If the names differ by tier, stop trying lower-grade activities and switch to a source that explicitly awards the required grade.
This simple check explains many complaints phrased as “I cannot get Expert’s Refining Stone.” A player may be completing activities that award Common stones while the recipe requires Expert’s, or may be looking at a one-time achievement reward that has already been claimed.

Claim one-time achievement rewards before repeating activities
The Global-client material guide reports the following achievement rewards per character:

They are not guaranteed lifetime values for every region or future patch. Open the achievement panel and inspect unclaimed objectives before spending hours on repeatable farming.
Why the Expert’s reward matters while leveling
The same guide recommends claiming the achievement rewards early and skipping Expert’s gear while leveling. Its reasoning is that the reported one-time Expert’s payout is large relative to the Expedition returns it analyzed. That is a guide author’s strategy recommendation, not a universal rule. If you are pushing a rare item for a specific build, group role or progression breakpoint, using Expert’s stones can still be reasonable; just understand that you are spending a limited reward.

Match the source to the tier
Sources do not have interchangeable output. Compare every option by four questions: which grade it awards, whether it is repeatable, what level or mode unlocks it, and whether it is limited by a schedule, event or weekly allowance.

What to do for each shortage
If you are missing Common Refining Stones
Start with the item database’s broad source categories: monster loot, Expedition reward chests, Sanctuary and Shugo Festival activities. The associated wiki lists monsters, named Expeditions, a Sanctuary and festival activities in more detail. Those named routes are version-sensitive, so confirm that the activity still appears in your current client and that its reward preview says Common Refining Stone.
- Check whether an open Expedition chest already contains a Common-stone reward.
- Run ordinary monster and field content while targeting the reward category shown in the current client.
- Use Sanctuary or Shugo Festival activities when their live reward list includes Common stones.
- If you have a surplus of another tradeable material, inspect the Market before spending time on a low-yield route.
Do not infer that a Common-stone source will solve an Expert’s, Artisan’s or Artisan’s Ultimate shortage. The database categories identify possible sources, not a universal drop rate or guaranteed tier.
If you are missing Expert’s Refining Stones
Inspect unclaimed achievements first. The Global-client guide reports 62 Expert’s stones per character from one-time achievement rewards and specifically advises claiming them early. After that, compare Expedition rewards and any current event or field activity that explicitly displays Expert’s stones.
If you are still leveling, the same guide recommends skipping Expert’s gear rather than consuming a limited supply. This is most useful when the item is a temporary upgrade and an upcoming epic or unique target would benefit more from your materials. It is not a requirement: use the stones if the rare item solves an immediate progression problem.

If you are missing Artisan’s Refining Stones
The guide reports 57 Artisan’s stones from achievements per character. Claim that reward if it remains available, then check the live reward panels for Expeditions, field bosses and event activities. Focus on activities that name Artisan’s specifically; a high difficulty label alone does not prove that the reward grade is higher.
Before crafting, calculate whether the epic item is a durable upgrade. Artisan’s stones are tied to epic gear in the current grade mapping, so spending them on a short-lived item can delay a better recipe. That is a resource-planning decision, not a claim that epic gear should always be postponed.
If you are missing Artisan’s Ultimate Refining Stones
Artisan’s Ultimate is associated with unique Dragon Lord gear in the current material guide. The guide reports 28 per character from achievements. Because this tier is narrower, verify the exact recipe and search only activities whose current reward list names Artisan’s Ultimate.

A separate third-party guide checked against Global launch client version 2.0.5.0 lists Season Shop, Arena chest and achievements as routes for Artisan’s Ultimate. Those route details belong to that guide and that client check; they should be rechecked in your region and current patch before you spend currency, tickets or arena time.

Use Supply Requests and the Market intelligently
Supply Requests from level 25
The current material guide says Supply Requests become available from level 25 and can accept Refining Stones in exchange for Abyss Points and Enhance Stones. This can help when you have excess stones of a grade you no longer need, but it can also destroy the material you were about to use for a recipe.
- Open the current Supply Request interface after reaching level 25.
- Read the requested stone tier and the exact quantity shown in the live client.
- Check your next planned recipe before confirming the exchange.
- Compare the offered Abyss Points and Enhance Stones with the value of keeping the stones or selling them.
- Confirm only after checking whether the request is limited, rotating or replaceable.
Exact request quantities were not quoted because the guide warns that they should be verified against the current client. Do not rely on a remembered quantity from an older screenshot or guide.
Buying or selling on the Market
If a stone is tradeable, the Market can bridge a temporary shortage. Search by the complete tier name, not just “Refining Stone,” and inspect the listing’s trade status before planning around it. Prices and supply are not fixed facts: they depend on your server’s players and can change after a patch, event or new achievement reward.
Selling surplus can fund the grade you need, but keep enough for recipes you have already committed to. A lower-tier surplus is useful only if another player wants it; it cannot be substituted directly into a higher-grade recipe.
Why a route may appear to give no stones
- Wrong tier: The activity rewards Common stones while your recipe needs Expert’s, Artisan’s or Artisan’s Ultimate.
- Reward already claimed: Achievement payouts are one-time per character in the cited guide.
- Chest not opened: Expedition rewards may arrive in a reward chest rather than directly in the inventory.
- Access restriction: A source may require a level, a mode, a festival window or another unlock.
- Patch or region difference: The cited figures come from Global client data and a separate launch-client guide, not every regional build.
- Trade restriction: A Market listing or Supply Request may not apply if the item is bound or the request has rotated.
When a route fails, record the exact activity, client version, reward preview and stone name. That evidence is more useful than comparing an activity’s difficulty or reputation with another player’s result.
A repeatable decision process
- Read the recipe. Write down the exact stone tier and quantity.
- Check one-time rewards. Open achievements and claim any unclaimed stones of that tier.
- Check access. Confirm your level, Expedition availability, event schedule and mode unlocks.
- Inspect live rewards. Choose only activities whose current panel names the required tier.
- Use conversions carefully. Review Supply Requests and the Market for tradeable alternatives.
- Protect future materials. Do not exchange or spend stones earmarked for a higher-priority recipe.
- Recheck after patches. Rewards, availability and trade rules can change without preserving an older guide’s route.
What the available evidence does not establish
The cited guides and databases do not establish a universal fastest route, a reliable drop-rate table for every grade, or a permanent list of named activities for every region. The Reddit question about getting Expert’s Refining Stone illustrates the wording players use, but it is not evidence of drop frequency or a representative sample of players. Treat exact rates, event schedules and exchange values as live-client details rather than permanent game rules.
The strongest general rule is therefore procedural: identify the grade, take one-time achievements first, then select a repeatable source that explicitly awards that grade. If the live client disagrees with an older guide, follow the current recipe and reward preview and avoid spending resources until the discrepancy is clear.
