Start with the reversible checks: verify the address, reload, test another website, restart or update your browser, and try Quordle in a private window or a second browser. If the game appears in the private window or another browser, an extension, cache, or saved site setting is the likely culprit. Before deleting cookies or site data, identify which Quordle you use: the quordle.uk guide says its unfinished game and statistics are stored locally in the same browser and device, while the storage and recovery behavior of Merriam-Webster’s version is not established by the available documentation.
First, identify which Quordle you are playing
“Quordle” is used for more than one product. The troubleshooting advice published for quordle.uk is not automatically applicable to the official Quordle experience from Merriam-Webster. The distinction matters most when progress or statistics vanish, because storage and support arrangements can differ.

- Check the address bar, bookmark, home-screen shortcut, or app name before changing browser data.
- Record whether you are using quordle.uk or Merriam-Webster’s Quordle, and whether you opened it in a normal, private, or in-app browser.
- Do not assume that a new browser, a new device, or a private window is seeing the same saved game.
The quordle.uk guide says that site has no account sign-in and keeps the in-progress game and statistics in the browser on that device. That is a site-specific statement, not confirmation of how Merriam-Webster stores or restores Quordle data.

Use the symptom to choose the safest test
| What you see | Run this test first | What the result suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Blank page, spinner, or an error | Reload, then open another unrelated website | If several sites fail, investigate the connection or device before blaming Quordle. |
| Quordle works in a private window | Return to the normal window and pause extensions | An extension, stale cache, or saved site setting is a likely browser-specific cause. |
| Quordle works in another browser | Compare extensions, cached data, and browser version | The original browser profile is more suspect than a confirmed Quordle outage. |
| Stats or an unfinished puzzle are missing | Return to the exact same site, browser, and device | A different local storage area can look like deleted progress. |
| Every browser and device fails | Try a different network and check for a service notice | A network, security filter, or website-side problem becomes more plausible, but this test alone does not prove an outage. |
When Quordle will not load: a step-by-step sequence
1. Check the address and reload once
Read the full address in the browser bar and make sure it is the Quordle site you normally use. A bookmark can point to a different version, an old page, or an address with a typing error. Use the browser’s normal reload command once. Repeatedly refreshing a page that is still loading does not repair a blocked connection and can make it harder to tell what changed.
#1 Best Overall
Open a couple of unrelated, well-known websites in new tabs. If those pages also fail, stop changing Quordle settings and troubleshoot the network, Wi-Fi, mobile connection, or device first. Chrome’s loading guidance groups connection problems, device settings or software, browser state, and website downtime or maintenance among the possible causes.
2. Restart the browser and reduce the load
Close the browser completely, reopen it, and load the game again. If the device is short on memory, close unused tabs and demanding applications before trying. Edge’s support guidance specifically points to open tabs, extensions, cached data, updates, and security software as relevant checks when pages fail to load. A browser restart also clears a temporary hung process without deleting saved site data.
Install any pending browser update offered by the browser’s own settings screen, then restart after the update. Browser interfaces change, so use the current help page for your browser if the update control is not where you expect.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3. Test a private or incognito window
Open a private window—called Incognito in Chrome—and visit the same Quordle address. This is a diagnostic test, not a permanent workaround. Private windows usually start with a cleaner session and do not use all of the normal window’s extensions or stored site state.
Rank #2
- If Quordle still fails: the problem may involve the network, the site, browser compatibility, or a security filter rather than one saved setting.
- If Quordle loads: return to the normal window and investigate extensions and stored data before deleting anything.
A private window may not show your normal statistics or unfinished puzzle because it has a separate temporary storage context. Do not interpret that difference as proof that your original progress was erased.
4. Isolate extensions instead of deleting data
In the normal browser window, temporarily disable extensions that modify pages, block scripts or advertising, manage privacy, or route traffic. Reload Quordle after each change. Chrome’s games guidance recommends an isolate-and-test approach: disable extensions, test the game, then re-enable them one at a time until the conflict is identified.
Keep a short note of which extension was disabled and what happened. If the game returns when one extension is off, update or reconfigure that extension, or leave it disabled for this site. Avoid turning off every security control indefinitely; the goal is to identify a conflict with the smallest possible change.

Try the same site in a second, up-to-date browser on the same device. This comparison helps separate a browser-profile problem from a broader connection or site problem. If possible, test a second device as well, but remember that a different device may not contain the same locally stored game state.
Rank #3
Record the outcome precisely: “loads in Browser B on the same laptop” is useful evidence; “it worked somewhere else” is not enough to identify why. Do not switch browsers and then clear the original browser’s data while you are still trying to recover an unfinished game.
6. Test another network only as a diagnostic
If the page fails on one Wi-Fi network, try a trusted alternative such as mobile data, subject to your plan’s limits. A network change can reveal a DNS problem, captive portal, firewall, or filtering rule. It does not establish that Quordle itself is down.
VPNs, antivirus web shields, corporate firewalls, and script-blocking tools are possible causes of a blank page, but the available Quordle-specific material does not verify any one of them as the cause. Temporarily pause one relevant control at a time, test, and restore it immediately after the comparison. Do not weaken security on an untrusted network just to run a puzzle.
7. Clear cache or site data only after protecting progress
Clearing cached files can repair a damaged browser cache, but clearing cookies or site data is a more consequential step. It can sign you out of sites, reset preferences, and remove locally stored game information. The quordle.uk guide specifically warns that clearing saved browser data can erase its in-progress game and statistics.
If you use quordle.uk and the puzzle or stats matter, postpone this step until you have confirmed the site and accepted the possibility of losing local state. If you use Merriam-Webster’s version, do not assume that clearing data is safe or that it will restore anything; the available documentation here does not establish its storage or recovery behavior.
When your puzzle, streak, or statistics disappear
Return to the same site, browser, and device
First compare the address, browser, device, and window type with the session in which you played. On quordle.uk, the site’s own guide says there are no accounts or sign-in and that statistics are stored in that browser on that device. Opening the game on a different phone, a newly installed browser, or a private window can therefore look exactly like a reset even when the original browser profile still contains the data.
Close the private window, return to the original normal window, and use the same device. Check whether the browser profile has changed—for example, a different operating-system user, portable browser profile, or guest session. Do not create a new bookmark until you have confirmed that it points to the same site.
Think back to data-clearing or browser-reset actions
Ask whether you recently cleared cookies, site data, browsing history with site data included, browser storage, or a “clean up” feature. Also check whether the browser was reset, uninstalled, or restored from a backup. On quordle.uk, those actions can remove the local record described by its guide. A browser account sync is not a guaranteed backup for Quordle progress; no evidence here confirms that signing in or enabling sync can reconstruct a deleted game.

Do not promise yourself a recovery that is not documented
There is no confirmed recovery path in the available material for restoring lost Quordle state on Merriam-Webster’s version. Do not assume that contacting a generic browser provider, signing into a browser account, or reinstalling the app will bring back a local puzzle. Reinstallation and storage resets can make the situation worse.

How to report a persistent problem
Once you have tested the same site in the original browser and at least one comparison browser or device, preserve the details before making further changes. A useful report contains:
- The exact Quordle site or app name and address.
- Browser name and version, device model, operating system, and whether the window was normal or private.
- What appears: blank page, spinner, error text, missing grid, missing stats, or a newly started puzzle.
- When the problem began and whether it followed an update, browser reset, network change, or data-clearing action.
- Results from another browser, another device, and another network, if you tested them.
- A screenshot with personal information covered, when the screen contains no sensitive data.
The quordle.uk guide asks for this kind of diagnostic information and a screenshot when reporting issues with that site. Treat that as a quordle.uk reporting process, not as confirmed official Merriam-Webster support. If you are using Merriam-Webster’s version, use the support route presented by that product and identify the exact version in your message.

What not to do
- Do not clear all cookies or site data as your first response to a blank page.
- Do not repeatedly switch devices and conclude that progress was deleted; local storage can differ by device and browser.
- Do not treat a successful private-window test as proof of a Quordle server outage.
- Do not disable antivirus, firewall, or other security controls permanently. Use short, controlled tests and restore them.
- Do not install a cleanup utility or pay for hardware to solve a browser-loading symptom; the documented checks use built-in browser and network controls.
A practical decision path
- Identify the version. Confirm whether the address is quordle.uk or Merriam-Webster’s Quordle.
- Check scope. Reload, open another website, and determine whether the failure affects the connection generally.
- Reduce variables. Restart or update the browser, close excess tabs, and test a private window.
- Isolate the browser. Disable extensions temporarily, then compare a second browser.
- Compare the network. If safe, test another connection and review VPN or security filtering as possible causes.
- Protect local data. Before clearing cookies or site storage, understand that quordle.uk says this can erase local progress and that Merriam-Webster’s behavior is not established here.
- Document and report. Save the exact symptoms and comparison results before contacting the relevant site’s support channel.
