When Pokémon GO event spawns or research do not appear, first establish whether the content is actually scheduled for your local time and account. Event announcements can separate the event window from a later research refresh, and each research type has a different collection method. If the feature should be active, check the correct in-game location, collection limits, app version, connection, GPS, device time, cached data, and background-data settings before reporting a bug.
Start by proving the feature should be live
An event name, loading-screen graphic, or social post does not prove that a particular bonus is active at this moment. Open the event’s official announcement or the event information shown in Pokémon GO and verify all of the following:

- The advertised start and end date.
- The start and end time in your local time zone.
- Whether the missing feature is a wild spawn, PokéStop Field Research, Timed Research, or another benefit.
- Whether that feature begins later than the main event.
- Whether a ticket, account eligibility rule, or other participation condition applies.
Event features can have separate clocks. In the official announcement for the past 2025 Celestial Research Day, PokéStop Field Research was scheduled to refresh beginning at 2:00 p.m. local time. That was a rule for that event, not a general Pokémon GO refresh time. Treat every event’s announcement as authoritative rather than assuming that all bonuses begin together.
If the event has not started locally, has already ended, or has a later refresh time, there is no device fault to fix. Wait for the published window and check again. If the published window has begun, continue with the content-type and collection checks below.

Identify what is missing before troubleshooting
“Research” covers several different systems. Looking in the wrong screen can make working content appear to be missing.

Wild spawns are not research
If the complaint is that event Pokémon are absent from the map, spinning stops or opening the research list will not create them. Confirm the event’s local spawn window, then check the connection and GPS steps later in this guide. Do not assume that a research refresh also changes wild spawns.
Field Research comes from a PokéStop
To obtain Field Research, spin a nearby PokéStop’s Photo Disc. Event tasks use the same basic collection process as ordinary Field Research, but the gold border and “Event” label identify them. A task will not appear merely because the event is visible in the Today View.
Timed and Special Research use different screens
Timed Research is normally listed in Today View and is tied to a defined period. If its deadline has passed, it is no longer available. Special Research is offered separately by Professor Willow and is not a PokéStop drop. Check the correct research tab before changing device settings.

Check Field Research limits and PokéStop history
Field Research has two limits that commonly explain a missing event task:
- You can hold up to four Field Research tasks at once.
- At most three of those tasks can be collected from PokéStops. The fourth slot is reserved for Bonus Research.
- A given PokéStop generally supplies one Field Research task per day.
- Completing a task and claiming its reward frees a slot.
If three PokéStop-derived tasks are already in your list, spinning another stop will not add a fourth PokéStop task even though the overall capacity is four. Look for the Bonus Research slot and review every stored task. Claim a completed reward, then spin the stop again if the event window is still open.
Returning to the same PokéStop on the same day also will not normally produce another task. Try a different stop that you have not used that day. These limits are independent of whether the task is marked “Event.”

A Research Breakthrough is a separate reward track. It requires seven daily stamps, so collecting an event Field Research task does not immediately create a Breakthrough. Keep the two systems separate when checking what should be visible.

Use this troubleshooting sequence when the feature should be active
Work through the checks in order. The menu paths below come from Niantic’s Android troubleshooting guidance; iPhone and iPad labels can differ, so do not assume an Android path is identical on iOS.
1. Update Pokémon GO
Install the newest official Pokémon GO version available for your device. Event content can depend on current server and app behavior, and an old build may fail to display a newly activated feature. After updating, fully close and reopen the game, then check the map, Today View, or Field Research list again.
2. Test another reliable connection
Switch between a dependable Wi-Fi network and mobile data. A weak or interrupted connection can load the map while failing to retrieve current event configuration or research tasks. Avoid judging the event from a single failed loading attempt; wait for the map and menus to finish synchronizing after the connection change.

Make sure Pokémon GO has permission to use your location and that the device’s location-accuracy improvements are enabled. If your avatar is drifting, frozen, or shown far from your real position, PokéStop interactions and nearby spawns may not behave normally. Move to an open area with a clearer satellite view and allow the game time to settle on your position.

4. Refresh the game data
In Pokémon GO on Android, open Settings > Advanced Settings > Refresh Game Data. This refreshes locally held game data without deleting your account. Return to the event screen and allow the app to reload before testing a PokéStop or checking Today View.
5. Enable automatic date, time, and time zone
In the device’s system settings, turn on automatic date and time and automatic time zone. A manually set clock or incorrect time zone can place the game outside the event window even when the real local time is correct. Restart Pokémon GO after correcting the settings and verify the local event time once more.
6. Clear the app cache
Use the device’s app settings to clear Pokémon GO’s temporary cache, then reopen the game. Clearing a cache removes transient files; it does not replace the account or change the event schedule. If the problem was caused by stale local data, the event panel or research list may repopulate after the next synchronization.
7. Allow background data
Check that background data is permitted for Pokémon GO and the relevant Google or system services on Android. Data restrictions, battery-saving modes, or a system-level network block can prevent the game from receiving current event state. Temporarily allow the required data access, reopen the app, and test while connected reliably.
8. Reinstall only after the earlier checks
If the official app is current and the preceding steps fail, reinstall the latest official version. Niantic states that progress is stored online, so reinstalling does not erase game progress. Make sure you know the sign-in method for the account before removing the app, and download only the official Pokémon GO release.

What to do if nothing fixes it
Check Known Issues first
Review Pokémon GO’s official Known Issues information for an outage or recognized display problem. This helps distinguish a broad service problem from a local device configuration issue. Do not infer that an entire event is broken from one failed spin or one missing spawn.
Send an in-app bug report
If the event window is correct, your account appears eligible, the right screen and collection rules have been checked, and the Android troubleshooting sequence has not helped, report the problem through in-app support. An in-app report can include contextual details such as the app version and device model, which gives support more useful information than a generic external message.

Include:
- The event name and the exact local date and time when the feature should have appeared.
- Your approximate location or region, without sharing unnecessary personal information.
- The missing content type: wild spawn, event Field Research, Timed Research, or another feature.
- Your device model, operating system, and Pokémon GO app version.
- Whether the account has a ticket or other stated eligibility condition.
- The PokéStop history and inventory state if a Field Research task is missing.
- Every troubleshooting step already completed and what happened afterward.
Describe one reproducible example, such as the time you spun a specific nearby stop after the published refresh, rather than reporting only that “the event does not work.” Avoid sending account passwords or other credentials in a report.
Android-specific limits and iOS expectations
The documented menu sequence in this article is for Android. Niantic also provides iOS troubleshooting guidance, but Android labels such as Settings > Advanced Settings > Refresh Game Data should not be presented as universal iPhone instructions. On iOS, use the equivalent Pokémon GO and system settings available on that device, then report the exact menus you used if you contact support.
