If Duck.ai gives you a wrong or odd answer, do not treat it as authoritative. First determine whether the response came from Duck.ai chat or DuckDuckGo Search Assist, then check the exact claim against a reliable primary source. If the same model keeps behaving unexpectedly, DuckDuckGo advises checking the model provider’s help resources and trying another available model. You can also submit appropriate feedback, report harmful content through the separate safety flow, or reduce or disable AI features.
Start by identifying which DuckDuckGo feature answered you
DuckDuckGo has two different AI experiences that are easy to confuse. The correction and reporting steps depend on which one produced the text.

Duck.ai chat
Duck.ai is the conversational service at Duck.ai. You exchange messages with an AI model, and the service may let you select from available models. A long, conversational response, follow-up questions, or a model selector usually indicates Duck.ai.
Search Assist in DuckDuckGo Search
Search Assist is an optional answer displayed inside DuckDuckGo search results. It creates a short response from web material and links to one or two sources. The answer can be expanded with More. Because Search Assist summarizes crawled web content, the linked pages—not the generated paragraph—are the evidence you need to inspect.

If you are unsure, look at the page around the answer. A model conversation belongs to Duck.ai; an answer attached to a normal search-results page is Search Assist.
Check whether the error is isolated or a pattern
One bad sentence does not prove that the entire service is unusable, but it does mean that sentence should not guide an important decision. Save the exact wording before asking follow-up questions, since a later response may change the claim and make the problem harder to document.
- Isolated error: Verify the specific statement, correct your notes, and continue only after you have a trustworthy source.
- Repeated behavior from one model: Run a small, fair check using the same wording or a clearly defined fact. If the model repeatedly gives unexpected answers, follow DuckDuckGo’s advice to consult the model provider’s support information and try another available Duck.ai model.
- Unclear or changing information: Check the date, location, edition, or jurisdiction that applies. A response can look wrong when it silently assumes a different region or an outdated rule.
DuckDuckGo explicitly cautions that, “As with any AI service, the AI models available through Duck.ai may generate inaccurate information.” That is a reason to verify claims, not a promise that switching models will fix every error.

Do not try to fact-check an entire answer at once. Break it into individual claims and test the ones that matter.

- Copy the exact claim. Include numbers, dates, names, conditions, and qualifiers. “The law allows this” is not the same claim as “the law allows this in a particular country after a particular date.”
- Find a source with direct authority. Prefer an official government record, regulator, court, standards body, product documentation, institutional record, or original research paper. A page repeating the same AI-generated wording is not independent confirmation.
- Check scope and date. Confirm that the source covers your country or state, product edition, operating-system version, time period, or other condition. For rapidly changing facts, a dated source matters as much as the publisher.
- Compare the precise wording. Look for exceptions, definitions, and thresholds that a short AI answer may have omitted. If the source says “may,” “generally,” or “in certain circumstances,” do not rewrite it as an unconditional rule.
- Inspect Search Assist citations. Open the one or two linked pages and locate the passage that supports the generated statement. A citation’s presence does not prove that it supports the claim; the page might be outdated, irrelevant, or interpreted incorrectly.
- Record what remains uncertain. If authoritative sources disagree or do not address the exact situation, treat the answer as unresolved rather than forcing a yes-or-no conclusion.
For medical, legal, financial, safety, employment, immigration, or other high-consequence questions, use the AI response only as a starting point. Confirm the decision with a qualified professional or the responsible authority before acting.
When switching Duck.ai models is the right move
DuckDuckGo’s recommendation is specific: if one model consistently produces unexpected responses, check with that model provider for a known issue and try a different available model. It is not a directive to change models after every isolated typo.
A sensible model-switch test
- Keep the original prompt and the questionable answer.
- Ask the same factual question in a different available model, without adding leading language that tells it which answer you expect.
- Compare both responses with an authoritative source. Agreement between two models is not proof; they may share the same incorrect training material.
- If the second model is also uncertain, stop asking models to arbitrate the fact and rely on the primary source or a qualified expert.
Model names and availability can change, so avoid treating a particular model list as permanent. The useful distinction is whether the behavior follows one model or appears across several models and independently verified prompts.

Ordinary search-result feedback
For a suspicious or inaccurate search result, DuckDuckGo directs users to Share Feedback at the bottom of the results page and then to follow the prompts. Some instant answers may display their own feedback control. Describe the exact statement, why it is wrong, and the source that demonstrates the problem. Keep the report focused on the factual issue rather than submitting a general complaint that cannot be investigated.

Feedback on a Duck.ai conversation
Use the feedback control presented with the conversation when it is available. If you attach or share the conversation, read the privacy implications first: voluntary sharing changes how that conversation is handled, as described below. Include enough context for the reviewer to reproduce the issue, but remove personal, confidential, or identifying information that is not necessary.
Use the harmful-content report only for harmful or illegal material
DuckDuckGo has a separate safety process for illegal or harmful AI content. It should not be presented as the general factual-error form.
- In Duck.ai: click the thumbs-down icon, choose Harmful or illegal, describe the problem, and submit it.
- In Search Assist: click the thumbs-down icon, choose Something Else, explain the issue, and submit.
If an answer is merely inaccurate, use source checking and the ordinary feedback route instead. If it is both wrong and dangerous—for example, it encourages illegal conduct or creates an immediate safety risk—use the safety flow and explain the specific harm.
Reduce or turn off DuckDuckGo’s AI features
AI features are optional. If repeated errors, unwanted summaries, or the verification burden outweigh the benefit, you can tune Search Assist down or turn AI features off using DuckDuckGo’s opt-out instructions.

Change Search Assist frequency
Search Assist can be set to appear often, sometimes (the default stated on DuckDuckGo’s help page), on-demand, or never. You can change the frequency through Search Settings or the gear icon on a Search Assist answer. In the DuckDuckGo browser, the relevant path is Settings > AI Features.
- Open DuckDuckGo Search Settings, or use the gear icon shown on a Search Assist answer.
- Find the Search Assist frequency control.
- Select the level that matches your preference, including never to stop automatic answers.
- If you use the DuckDuckGo browser, check Settings > AI Features for the same control.
Interface labels can change. If a label differs, look for the AI Features or Search Assist frequency setting rather than assuming the option has been removed.
Turn off Duck.ai or other AI features
DuckDuckGo also provides instructions for turning off Duck.ai and Search Assist. Follow the current opt-out steps for the product and device you use. Disabling the feature prevents new generated answers from appearing; it does not make a previously saved or copied answer accurate.

DuckDuckGo says that, by default, Duck.ai does not record or store chats and that DuckDuckGo and its model providers do not use conversations to train models. There is an important exception for feedback: when you choose to share a conversation, DuckDuckGo stores and reviews it to improve its products.
Before attaching a transcript, remove passwords, payment details, health information, private business material, personal addresses, and anything else that is not needed to explain the error. Provider-specific retention arrangements can change, so consult the live privacy information if the handling of a particular model matters to you.
Practical fixes for common situations
“It cited a source, so I assumed it was correct.”
Open the citation and read the relevant passage. Confirm that the page actually states the claim, applies to your circumstances, and is current. If it does not, report the mismatch and use a better primary source.
“The answer changes every time I ask.”
Stop treating the conversation as a stable reference. Preserve the prompt and responses, verify the disputed fact externally, and test another model only to determine whether the behavior is tied to one model. Variability is not evidence that the newest answer is right.
“Search Assist is summarizing poor web pages.”
Open the linked pages, assess their authority and date, and search for an official source that addresses the claim directly. Set Search Assist to on-demand or never if you do not want automatic summaries while researching.
“The answer could cause immediate harm.”
Do not follow it while you investigate. Contact the relevant emergency service, regulator, clinician, lawyer, or other responsible authority as appropriate. Use the thumbs-down safety flow for harmful or illegal content, and explain the concrete risk.
“I cannot reproduce the problem.”
Keep the original text, the approximate time, the feature used, and any model selection visible in your notes. A report that includes the exact wording and context is more useful than a description such as “the AI was bad.”
What DuckDuckGo does not establish
DuckDuckGo’s help material acknowledges possible inaccuracies and gives troubleshooting routes, but it does not publish a universal Duck.ai accuracy percentage, error rate, comparative benchmark, or user-satisfaction figure in the guidance described here. Do not use an invented statistic to decide whether a model is safe for a particular task. The appropriate remedy depends on the feature, the stakes, the reliability of the available sources, and whether the behavior is isolated or repeated.
