A rejected app coupon is not necessarily a bad coupon. The offer may be limited by its expiry, products, minimum spend, account, location, currency, payment method, redemption channel or stacking rules. Open the offer terms, check those conditions in order, re-enter the code exactly as instructed, and verify the discount on the final order record before paying.
If every stated condition is satisfied and the app still rejects the promotion, save the exact error and contact the issuing company or app support. Reinstalling the app or changing phones does not normally change an eligibility rule attached to an offer.

Use this quick diagnostic sequence first
- Open the original offer terms. Confirm the expiry or redemption window, eligible products, minimum qualifying subtotal, account or new-customer requirement, country or region, currency, payment method and rules about combining discounts.
- Re-enter the code exactly. Check every character and follow the app’s formatting instructions. Google Play specifically advises entering codes without spaces or dashes.
- Use the correct account and channel. Sign in to the account that received the offer and redeem it in the required app, website or platform. Some promotions are app-only.
- Inspect the cart. Remove excluded products only when the terms identify them as excluded, and make sure the minimum spend is calculated on the qualifying subtotal rather than the total after discounts, taxes or delivery.
- Check location, currency and timing. Country-specific offers, currency restrictions and cutoffs can make an otherwise valid code fail.
- Confirm the result before ordering. Look for a discount or “Promotion” line in the price breakdown, or check the app’s promotion history. A code that was merely entered is not necessarily applied.
- Escalate with evidence. Send support the exact error, offer terms, account context and a receipt or screenshot with payment details and other sensitive information removed.
Each issuer defines its own eligibility rules. The examples below show how several major services document their promotions; they are not universal rules for every app.

The terms are the controlling document. A banner may say “20% off,” while the detailed conditions limit the offer to a particular item, country, account or date. Google Store’s promotion guidance says the individual promotion terms govern eligibility, restrictions and validity. iHerb’s troubleshooting guidance likewise lists product, spend, account, country and app-only conditions.
Expiry and redemption windows
Check both the displayed expiry date and any stated time zone or redemption period. Some offers stop working at a specific hour rather than at the end of your local day. An app may continue displaying a promotion after its redemption window has closed, especially if the banner was cached.
Products, brands and categories
Many coupons exclude particular products, brands, bundles, subscriptions or sale items. An error naming an ineligible item usually means the cart does not meet the offer’s product rules, not that the code has been typed incorrectly. Read the full list of exclusions before removing anything from the cart.

Minimum order and qualifying subtotal
A minimum such as “spend $50” commonly applies only to eligible merchandise. Delivery fees, taxes, gift cards, already-discounted items or excluded products may not count. If the coupon requires a qualifying subtotal, adding an excluded item can leave the subtotal below the threshold even when the cart’s grand total appears high enough.

Account, customer and payment restrictions
Offers may be limited to a named account, first-time customers, customers who have not used a particular promotion, or a specified payment method. A code can therefore be genuine and active but unavailable to an account that has already redeemed it or does not meet the customer-status requirement.
Combination and stacking rules
Do not assume two discounts can be combined. Google Store says multiple codes generally cannot be applied to one order. iHerb documents a different behavior in which its system may automatically select the highest discount. Those are service-specific examples, not a general industry policy.
Check the code’s format and type
Type the code carefully instead of relying on a copied version that may include an invisible space, line break or punctuation. Distinguish characters that look alike, such as zero and the letter O. If the app’s instructions specify uppercase or prohibit separators, follow them exactly. Google Play explicitly recommends entering a promotion code correctly without spaces or dashes.

What “invalid” or “nonexistent” usually means
Google Play and EA Help distinguish a code that is invalid or nonexistent from one that is merely expired or already used. The code may belong to a different promotion type, have been copied incorrectly, or have been issued for another service. Verify with the company or developer that you have the right kind of code before repeatedly trying it.
What “used” or “expired” means
A one-time code can be consumed by an earlier order, a failed-looking transaction that actually completed, or another person who received the same code. An expired code cannot be restored by changing the device. Check the account’s promotion or order history before asking support to investigate.
Confirm the account and redemption channel
Sign out and verify the account identifier shown in the app. A promotion sent by email, push notification or an account page may be tied to that exact account. Switching to a family member’s account, a work profile or a guest checkout can remove eligibility even when the same code is visible.
App-only and platform-specific offers
Some promotions must be redeemed inside the app, while others work only on a particular platform or checkout path. Google Play says certain app promotions must be redeemed in the app itself. iHerb also documents app-only promotions. A code entered on a desktop website can therefore fail without any problem in the code itself.

Payment and checkout path
Some offers require a particular payment method or a normal merchandise checkout rather than a subscription, gift-card purchase or other specialized flow. If the terms name a payment restriction, select that method before applying the code. Do not infer a payment requirement merely from an error message that does not mention one.
Inspect the cart and other discounts
Review each line item against the offer’s eligible-product list. If the app identifies one item as incompatible, remove it only when the coupon terms confirm the exclusion; otherwise ask support to clarify. Check whether a sale price, automatic loyalty discount or free-shipping promotion is already occupying the discount slot.
Why the minimum can appear to be met but still fail
Calculate the qualifying subtotal using only items covered by the offer. For example, a $60 cart containing $45 of eligible goods and $15 of excluded goods may fail a $50 merchandise threshold. Taxes, delivery charges and the value after another discount may also be excluded, depending on the terms.
Do not generalize one app’s stacking behavior
Google Store says multiple promotion codes generally cannot be applied to one order. Another service may automatically retain the highest discount, as iHerb describes. The only reliable answer is the specific offer’s combination rule and the discount shown in the checkout summary.

Check location, currency and timing
Google Play says its discount coupons are tied to a country or region. Uber Eats instructs users to check the applicable location, currency and expiry. A code issued in one market may fail when the account, delivery address, store, billing country or displayed currency is different.

Use the cutoff stated in the offer rather than assuming the end of the date shown in a banner. Location and currency checks are separate from account checks: satisfying one does not prove the other.

Apply the code before submitting the order. Uber Eats’ official help page states: “Promo codes should be added before placing the order.” Its documented flow lets users view active and past promotions in the app and confirms a successful discount through a “Promotion” line in the receipt’s price breakdown.
Look for an updated total, a named discount line or a confirmation in promotion history. If the code disappears after you leave the field, or the total does not change, treat it as unapplied. Do not rely on a green check mark, a banner or the mere presence of the code in a saved list.
Once an order is placed, an app may not allow a promotion to be added retroactively. Uber Eats specifically directs users to apply the code before ordering. If you paid without seeing the discount, retain the receipt and ask support whether the offer can be reviewed; do not assume a later code entry will change the completed order.
Decode the message you see

These interpretations reflect error explanations published by Google Store and EA Help, combined with the eligibility checks documented by Google Play, iHerb and Uber Eats. Other apps may use different labels.
What to send support when the terms appear satisfied
Contact the issuer, retailer or app developer listed in the offer’s help path. Google Play directs users to the app developer for promotion problems. Include enough detail for support to inspect the offer without exposing private data.
- The exact code, copied as text when safe, and the offer’s name.
- The complete terms, including expiry, minimum spend and exclusions.
- The account email or customer identifier, using the support channel’s secure form rather than a public post.
- Your country, currency, platform and the app version if the form requests them.
- The exact error message and the time it occurred.
- A cart screenshot and, if an order was completed, the receipt showing the price breakdown. Redact passwords, full payment-card numbers, authentication codes and unrelated personal information.
Ask support to check whether the offer is active, attached to your account, already redeemed or blocked by a product, region or channel rule. This is more useful than reporting only that “the coupon does not work.”
Fixes that are unlikely to change eligibility
Restarting an app can resolve a temporary display problem, but it cannot make an account meet a new-customer rule or make an excluded item eligible. Reinstalling the app, changing phones, switching networks or buying a troubleshooting product should not be presented as a cure for an offer-eligibility rejection.
If the app is clearly failing to load the cart or receipt, ordinary technical troubleshooting may help you see the correct status. First capture the error and terms, then retry once after a normal app restart or connection check. If the same eligibility message returns, stop repeating device changes and escalate with the saved evidence.
Prevent the next coupon failure
- Save the original offer message and its full terms, not just the short code.
- Check expiry, region, currency, customer status and product exclusions before building the cart around a discount.
- Use the account and app channel named in the offer.
- Apply the code before payment and inspect the final total.
- Keep the receipt or promotion-history entry until the order is complete.
- Never assume that a code can be stacked with another discount unless the terms say so.
The practical rule is simple: treat the offer terms, not the code field, as the source of truth. A code can be authentic and still fail when the cart, account, location, timing or redemption channel differs from the conditions set by its issuer.
