Then check your club’s current policy and contact it promptly: remedies range from no return for taste preference to a credit, replacement, or refund, depending on the provider and its conditions.
Decide whether it is a taste mismatch or a bottle problem
Tell the club which situation applies; the distinction can determine how it handles your request.

- You dislike the style: The wine may be sound, but its flavor, grape, sweetness, body, or other characteristics are not for you. Describe what you disliked rather than calling it faulty.
- You suspect a fault or delivery problem: Explain if the wine seems corked, oxidized, spoiled, damaged in transit, or different from the bottle you ordered. If you are unsure, say so and ask the club how it wants you to report it.
Keep a bottle that might be faulty until the club tells you what to do. It may ask for photos or need the bottle for inspection; WineAlign’s The Exchange, for example, says not to discard a bottle reported as faulty because the supplier may need it.

Check the club’s policy before expecting a refund
Look on the club’s support or FAQ page and in your order terms for its satisfaction guarantee, reporting deadline, and remedy. Check whether the policy covers a wine you simply did not enjoy or only faults, damage, and incorrect items. Also look for conditions about storage or consumption and whether the outcome is a refund, account credit, replacement, or exchange.

These are examples of individual provider terms, not a general rule for wine clubs or a statement of legal rights. Policies can change, and the country where you live may matter if you are asking about legal entitlements.

Contact the club with the details it needs
- Find your order or shipment reference and note the delivery date.
- Identify the wine by name and describe the issue plainly: a taste preference, suspected fault, damage, or incorrect bottle.
- For a taste mismatch, explain the style or feature you did not like. For a suspected fault or damage, ask whether the club needs photos or wants you to retain the bottle and packaging.
- Ask what remedy is available under the current policy and whether any conditions apply. Do not assume a refund or replacement is guaranteed unless your club’s terms provide for it and your situation meets those terms.
Use the club’s stated reporting method and act promptly. Deadlines are provider-specific: Firstleaf’s published window for a disliked bottle is 30 days after delivery, while WineAlign’s The Exchange asks members to report a faulty bottle within one month of receiving it.
Update your preferences or stop future shipments
Reduce the chance of another taste mismatch
Ask whether the club can record your feedback or change future selections. Depending on the service, you may be able to rate bottles, filter for certain grapes or styles, customize a shipment, or request red-only or white-only deliveries. The California Wine Club, for instance, says members may request red-only or white-only shipments; options are not the same across providers.

Check the order cutoff before pausing, skipping, or cancelling
If you want fewer shipments or none, check the club’s current pause, skip, customization, and cancellation terms before the next order cutoff. Some orders are prepared well in advance: WineAlign’s The Exchange says skip, subscription-change, and cancellation requests must come early in the order cycle because wines are ordered before members receive a shipment. Check separately whether cancelling affects unused credits; Firstleaf says its bottle credits expire when membership is cancelled or terminated.
