First identify what is actually out of sync
Pixel Watch has several functions that can look similar when they fail: Bedtime mode, Do Not Disturb (sometimes described by users as a focus mode), alarms, and ordinary notification delivery. They do not all use the same setting.

- Bedtime mode: changes the watch’s behavior during sleep hours and can affect notifications.
- Do Not Disturb: suppresses notifications according to the mode’s rules.
- Alarm synchronization: controls whether alarms created on the phone and watch are shared.
- Notification delivery: determines whether alerts are allowed through at all, even when a mode is configured correctly.
Write down the exact mismatch before changing anything. For example, “Bedtime turns on on the watch but not on the phone” is a different problem from “Do Not Disturb mirrors correctly, but Bedtime does not.” Also note whether the failure is from phone to watch, watch to phone, or both directions.
Find the Pixel Watch mode-sync control
- Unlock the Android phone paired with your watch.
- Open the Google Pixel Watch app.
- Tap Notifications.
- Look for the Do Not Disturb & Bedtime section.
- Look for Sync across watch and phone and enable it when you want the modes mirrored.
This path comes from Google Pixel Watch Community guidance by a Product Expert, rather than a complete official compatibility table. The wording, location, or availability can vary by phone, watch generation, Android release, Wear OS build, and Pixel Watch app version. Some users have reported that the control disappeared or was unavailable, but those reports are anecdotal and do not establish a universal rollout policy or a single cause.

If you cannot find the control, do not assume that the watch is defective. Record the phone model, watch generation, Android version, Wear OS version or build, and Pixel Watch app version. Those details are essential if you need support because the available evidence does not define a universal model-by-model compatibility matrix.
Troubleshooting routes ranked by risk

Run the complete check in order
1. Check the watch and phone connection
Keep the watch and phone powered on and near each other. Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the phone and that the Pixel Watch app shows the watch as connected. If your setup uses another supported connection path, make sure it is available as well. A watch that is offline can continue showing an old mode state, making a synchronization problem look like a setting failure.
Google’s notification troubleshooting directs users to connection and update checks when alerts do not behave correctly. That advice applies as a sensible first check here, but it does not prove that a connection problem is the cause of every Bedtime or Do Not Disturb mismatch.
2. Install available updates
Update the phone’s Android software, the Google Pixel Watch app, and the watch software whenever updates are offered. Apply updates on a reliable connection, keep both devices charged, and allow the watch time to finish installing before testing the mode again. A version mismatch can change menu labels or behavior, so record the versions if the problem remains.

3. Restart both devices
Restart the phone and the watch, rather than restarting only the device that currently shows the wrong state. After both have finished booting, open the Pixel Watch app and wait for the connection status to settle. Then return to Notifications and check Do Not Disturb & Bedtime again.
Google’s official pairing guidance includes restarting and reconnecting among its recovery steps. It does not describe a restart as a guaranteed fix for Bedtime-mode synchronization specifically, so treat the result as a diagnostic signal: if synchronization returns temporarily, the previous state may have been stale; if nothing changes, continue without repeatedly rebooting.
4. Test one mode at a time
Change only one setting, then observe both devices for a minute or two. Start with Do Not Disturb, followed by Bedtime mode. Record which device you changed, the time, and the result. This isolates a one-way failure from a general connection failure and prevents simultaneous changes from hiding the trigger.

5. Check notification behavior separately
Bedtime and Do Not Disturb can intentionally suppress notifications. If the modes appear synchronized but alerts are still absent, inspect notification permissions and the notification settings for the affected apps in the Pixel Watch app and on the phone. A notification that is blocked by a mode is not evidence that synchronization failed.
Conversely, if the mode indicator changes on one device but not the other, focus on synchronization rather than changing every app’s notification permission. Keeping those two diagnoses separate saves time and preserves your existing notification choices.
Do not confuse alarms with Bedtime or Do Not Disturb
Alarm synchronization has its own controls in the phone’s Clock app. Google’s “Set and manage alarms on Google Pixel Watch” help describes alarm sharing separately from Bedtime mode. Changing an alarm-sync option will not necessarily make Bedtime or Do Not Disturb mirror between devices.
The same help page says automatic Bedtime mode is available on Pixel Watch 5 and describes Bedtime as something that can be started manually or synchronized from the phone. That is model-specific information, not proof that every earlier Pixel Watch offers identical controls. If your concern is an alarm ringing on only one device, use the Clock app’s alarm-sync settings instead of the Pixel Watch app’s Do Not Disturb and Bedtime control.

Model and software differences matter
Google’s battery and Bedtime documentation describes automatic enter and exit controls for Pixel Watch 4 and additional bedtime features on Pixel Watch 5. Those references show that behavior can differ by generation. They do not establish that an older watch has every automation, nor do they explain why a particular account might lack a sync toggle.
Community posts from 2023 through 2026 describe varying availability and behavior of the setting. Community reports can reveal that other users see the same symptom, but they are not an official statement of current compatibility, a promised feature rollout, or a verified software-bug diagnosis. Before attributing the problem to incompatibility, collect the exact versions and device models.

A missing Sync across watch and phone entry is a distinct symptom from a toggle that fails after you enable it. Take a screenshot of the Notifications page if possible, then record:

- Phone make and model.
- Whether the phone is a Pixel or another Android model.
- Pixel Watch generation.
- Android version.
- Wear OS version or build shown on the watch.
- Pixel Watch app version.
- Whether the watch is connected over Bluetooth or another supported path.
- Whether Do Not Disturb, Bedtime, alarms, or only notification delivery is affected.
Do not repeatedly clear settings or reset the watch simply to make a menu appear. The available support material does not identify a universal fix for a missing control, and a reset introduces data loss without proving that the menu is supposed to exist on your combination of devices.
Escalate with useful evidence
If the setting is present, enabled, and still fails after connection checks, updates, and one restart cycle, contact support through the Pixel Watch app or Google’s support and feedback channels. Include the information above and a short reproduction sequence:
- State which mode was changed and on which device.
- State whether the other device changed.
- Say whether the failure is one-way or two-way.
- Say whether the sync control is visible and enabled.
- List the software versions and the date the problem was observed.
This is more actionable than reporting that “notifications are broken,” because Bedtime, Do Not Disturb, alarms, and app alerts are separate systems.
Why a factory reset should be last
Google documents a factory reset as a remedy for unresolved pairing problems after other recovery steps. A reset erases watch apps, settings, and data. It is therefore disproportionate for a mode toggle that is merely missing or not mirroring, especially when the watch otherwise connects and receives notifications.
Consider a reset only when support directs you to it or when you have a broader pairing failure that survives updates, restarts, and reconnection attempts. Back up or otherwise account for anything you need before proceeding, and expect to set up the watch again afterward.
Practical decision guide
- The toggle is visible and off: enable it, then test Do Not Disturb and Bedtime separately.
- The toggle is visible and on, but neither mode mirrors: verify connection, update all three software components, restart both devices, and retest.
- Do Not Disturb mirrors but Bedtime does not: report the asymmetry; do not change alarm settings unless alarms are also affected.
- The toggle is absent: capture versions and models and seek support; do not assume a hardware fault or erase the watch.
- Only alarms differ: use the Clock app’s alarm-sync controls.
- Modes match but alerts are absent: inspect notification permissions and mode rules rather than treating it as a synchronization failure.
What is established—and what is not
Google’s official help supports checking updates and connections for related notification problems, and restarting or reconnecting for pairing problems. Those are appropriate, low-risk diagnostics. The available documentation does not provide a definitive cause for every Bedtime or focus-mode mismatch, a published failure rate, or a complete compatibility matrix covering every phone, watch generation, Android version, Wear OS build, and app release.
The most reliable approach is therefore evidence-based: identify the exact feature, inspect the sync control, verify the connection and software versions, test one direction at a time, and escalate with precise device details. Reserve destructive recovery for genuine pairing failures, not for a single mode that refuses to mirror.
