First determine whether the exchange has actually broadcast your withdrawal. Open the withdrawal record, note the asset, selected network, amount, time, status and transaction ID (TxID), then check the exchange’s current notice for that exact asset and network. A TxID lets you inspect the transfer on the correct blockchain explorer; no TxID means an explorer cannot show that the exchange has sent the funds.
If the blockchain shows the transaction confirmed but your destination balance is unchanged, contact the receiving platform or wallet. If the withdrawal has no TxID, is marked on hold, or the exchange requests verification, use the sending exchange’s official support process. Do not submit a second withdrawal, switch networks, or pay anyone claiming they can unlock the first one until you know where the original transfer is.

Start by locating the delay
A label such as pending does not identify the part of the process that is stalled. Exchanges define their labels differently, and a withdrawal can pass through internal review, wallet queuing, network broadcast and blockchain confirmation before a destination credits it. Treat the TxID as the main dividing line: it normally appears after the exchange has created and broadcast a blockchain transaction.

The labels and timing depend on the exchange, asset and network. The table is a diagnostic framework, not a universal status dictionary.

Work through the withdrawal step by step
1. Record the exact transaction details
Sign in through the exchange’s normal website or app and open the individual withdrawal, not just the account’s general balance page. Record:
- the asset and amount;
- the destination address or account identifier, without publishing it publicly;
- the selected blockchain or network;
- the request time and the exchange’s displayed status;
- the withdrawal reference or ID shown by the exchange; and
- the TxID, if one is present.
Next, open the exchange’s official status page, maintenance notice and account messages. Look for an entry naming both your asset and network. A notice about one network does not establish that another network, or every asset, is affected. Status pages change, so check the current notice when you troubleshoot rather than relying on an old screenshot or a forum post.
2. Interpret the exchange’s status in context
Use the exchange’s own definition for the status attached to your withdrawal. Kraken’s published examples show why a generic word such as pending is insufficient: its process distinguishes early internal processing, sending to a payment gateway, broadcast to the network, confirmation and a manual hold. In that terminology, Sending means the transaction has been broadcast and is waiting for a blockchain confirmation. On hold means staff must manually check the withdrawal:

These are Kraken-specific labels, not a standard used by every exchange. Coinbase’s guidance on pending transactions also points to network synchronization problems and insufficient confirmations. Read the detailed withdrawal record and its help text before deciding that the chain is congested.

Kraken also states that cancellation can be requested only at its Initiated and Pending stages, and that a requested cancellation is not guaranteed. If your exchange offers a cancel button, treat it as a request rather than proof that the transfer has stopped; once broadcast, a transaction may continue independently of the exchange interface.
3. Check a TxID on the correct blockchain explorer
Copy the TxID exactly from the withdrawal record and paste it into an explorer that supports the blockchain and network you selected. Do not search a Bitcoin transaction on an Ethereum explorer, or an asset’s native network when you deliberately chose a different supported network.
An explorer can show whether a broadcast transaction is unconfirmed, confirmed, replaced or otherwise recorded by that chain. It cannot reveal an account-level security review, create a TxID for a withdrawal that has not been broadcast, or make an exchange release funds. If the explorer returns no matching transaction and the exchange has supplied no TxID, go back to the exchange rather than repeatedly refreshing unrelated explorers.
When the explorer shows the transaction as unconfirmed, the transfer is waiting for the network’s required confirmations. Binance’s support guidance advises waiting in that situation; confirmation time varies by network activity and the exchange’s own crediting policy. Do not assume that a displayed fee, block height or mempool presence is a guarantee of a particular completion time.
4. Handle a missing TxID or an on-hold withdrawal
If there is no TxID, check the exchange’s notices and your account messages for:

- a wallet maintenance period or network upgrade;
- a temporary pause for the specific asset or network;
- identity verification or a security review;
- a compliance request or account restriction; or
- an operational notice about exchange wallet availability.
Provide the withdrawal reference, asset, network, amount and request time through the exchange’s logged-in support channel. Follow only instructions displayed in your authenticated account or on the exchange’s official support site. A chain explorer cannot clear a manual hold. If the exchange asks for additional verification, complete it through the normal account workflow and keep a copy of what you submitted.
Binance describes network upgrades, wallet maintenance, congestion and hot-wallet balance management across networks as possible reasons for suspended or delayed withdrawals. That explanation applies to Binance’s own operations; it is not proof that another exchange has the same cause. Ask support for the status of the particular asset and network, not for a general promise that all withdrawals will resume.
5. If the chain confirms the transfer but the balance is missing
A confirmed transaction means the sending exchange has successfully put the transfer on-chain. It does not mean that the receiving service has finished its internal crediting process. Verify the destination address, memo or tag where the asset requires one, and the exact network shown in the explorer.
Then contact the receiving platform or wallet with the TxID and relevant transaction details. Binance directs users to the receiving platform when a transfer is confirmed but has not arrived. The destination must support both the asset and the network used. Sending an asset over an unsupported network can leave funds uncredited or unrecoverable; a sending exchange generally cannot reverse a confirmed blockchain transfer.
6. Do not create a second problem
Until the first withdrawal is classified, avoid these actions:

- submitting another withdrawal to the same or a new address;
- choosing a different network simply to bypass a pause;
- asking an unsolicited stranger to unlock or accelerate the funds;
- sharing your password, one-time codes, seed phrase, private key or recovery information; or
- assuming that a cancellation request has stopped a transaction.
A duplicate withdrawal can send twice if the first request later broadcasts. A network change can create an unsupported deposit. An account review cannot be bypassed with a new address, and no legitimate support agent needs your recovery phrase or private key.

Blockchain congestion and confirmation requirements
After broadcast, heavy activity can lengthen the time before a transaction receives the confirmations required by the exchange or destination. Coinbase identifies insufficient confirmations as one reason a transaction can remain pending, while Binance advises checking the TxID and waiting when the explorer shows an unconfirmed transfer. The appropriate wait depends on the network, transaction conditions and each platform’s confirmation rule; there is no reliable universal average.
Maintenance and network upgrades
Exchanges may disable withdrawals for one asset or network while upgrading a wallet, changing infrastructure or responding to a blockchain upgrade. During such a pause, the exchange may not broadcast new withdrawals, so an explorer cannot show progress. Read the notice for the affected network and any stated conditions for resumption. A posted time is an estimate unless the exchange confirms that service has actually returned.
Account security or compliance review
An exchange can hold an individual withdrawal for a manual security, identity or compliance check even when the blockchain is operating normally. The account may display a hold, request documents or ask you to confirm activity. Only the exchange can resolve that condition. Respond through its official support flow and do not move funds between accounts to evade the review.

Binance lists hot-wallet balance management across networks as an operational reason withdrawals may be delayed. An exchange may queue requests while it replenishes or reorganizes a wallet. This is different from a public blockchain outage and may affect only selected assets or networks. Ask the exchange which service is affected rather than inferring a system-wide failure from one delayed request.
Destination processing or incompatibility
Even a confirmed transfer can wait in the receiving service’s internal queue. A wrong network, unsupported token representation, missing memo or tag, or destination maintenance can prevent automatic crediting. Use the destination’s deposit instructions and support process; do not send a second transaction as a test.
How to read an explorer without misreading it
First confirm that the explorer is for the selected network. Then compare the address shown in the transaction with the destination address in your withdrawal record and check the asset, amount and status. An unconfirmed transaction indicates that the chain has not yet finalized it. A confirmed transaction indicates on-chain inclusion under that network’s rules, not completion of the destination’s bookkeeping.
Keep the explorer result with the exchange withdrawal record. Support teams can use the pair of records to distinguish a request that was never broadcast from a broadcast transaction that is waiting for confirmations. Do not treat a search result from a similarly named token or an alternate network as evidence about your withdrawal.

When and how to escalate
There is no single waiting period that applies to every exchange, asset or network. If an official notice gives an asset-specific estimate, treat it as an estimate tied to the stated maintenance or review. Actual availability can depend on finishing the work, clearing a review or meeting confirmation requirements.
Contact the sending exchange when the withdrawal has no TxID, is marked on hold, is blocked by an account prompt, or remains in an exchange-side status after the published service condition has ended. Include the withdrawal reference, exact asset and network, amount, time, status, and screenshots with sensitive credentials and recovery data removed.
Contact the receiving platform or wallet when the explorer shows a confirmed transaction and the destination has not credited it. Include the TxID, destination address, memo or tag where applicable, and the explorer’s confirmation details. If an exchange does not resolve an ongoing loss or restriction, you may need to consult the consumer or financial regulator relevant to your jurisdiction; complaint routes and legal obligations differ by country and exchange.
Prevent the same failure on your next withdrawal
- Confirm that the destination supports the exact asset and network before entering an amount.
- Read the destination’s memo, tag and minimum-deposit requirements.
- Start with a small test transfer when the destination and network are unfamiliar.
- Save the withdrawal reference and TxID as soon as they appear.
- Check the exchange’s live status page before sending during a known maintenance window.
- Use only official applications, domains and support channels.
- Keep account security methods current so a legitimate review can be completed without delay.
The practical sequence is simple: classify the status, establish whether a TxID exists, inspect that TxID on the correct chain when available, and contact the party that controls the stalled stage. That approach avoids duplicate transfers, unsupported-network mistakes and scams while giving support the records needed to investigate.
