No R2 battery-pack recall is confirmed by the official sources cited here. If you own an R2 and receive a recall notice—or see a campaign reported elsewhere—check your exact vehicle by its 17-character VIN, then follow the instructions in Rivian’s notice. Do not assume the vehicle is affected, or decide whether it is safe to drive or charge, based on a general model search.
Check whether your specific R2 is affected
Use the vehicle identification number (VIN), not just the Rivian R2 name. NHTSA’s lookup distinguishes between a VIN search, which checks for unrepaired recalls on a specific vehicle, and a make-and-model search, which returns general recall information. The lookup is available at NHTSA’s recall page.

- Enter it in NHTSA’s recall lookup and review any unrepaired recall results.
- If you received a Rivian notice, compare its vehicle and campaign details with the result, and follow the notice’s directions.
A clean result is not always the final word: NHTSA says some newly announced recalls may not yet have all affected VINs identified and added. VINs are added continuously. If you have a notice or credible information about a newly announced campaign, contact Rivian and check the lookup again rather than treating “no unrepaired recalls” as conclusive.

Read the actual Rivian notice for any interim safety guidance and apply it to the vehicle it identifies. NHTSA’s general guidance is to follow the manufacturer’s interim instructions when notified. It does not establish what an R2 owner should do for an unverified battery-pack campaign.

Do not infer that you must stop driving, avoid charging, or park the vehicle in a particular place unless the applicable Rivian notice or official campaign information says so. A high-voltage battery pack is not a do-it-yourself repair: do not inspect, disconnect, repair, or replace it yourself.
Arrange the recall remedy through Rivian
Contact Rivian or the service provider named in the vehicle-specific notice to confirm the repair process and arrange an appointment. NHTSA says recalled parts are fixed free of charge; manufacturers may repair or replace a part, refund the purchase price, or, in rare cases, repurchase the vehicle. No R2-specific remedy is established by the sources cited here, so do not assume the remedy is a battery replacement or that a particular service process applies.

NHTSA’s general advice is to contact a local dealership. For an R2, use Rivian’s official owner communication or support channel for the campaign-specific appointment instructions.
What is—and is not—confirmed about an R2 battery-pack recall
NHTSA’s official pages explain how to check recalls and what owners should generally do after notification. Rivian’s R2 page identifies the model but is not a recall notice. These sources do not establish an R2 battery-pack campaign, affected VIN range, defect, interim safety direction, or remedy. For current campaign details, rely on an official VIN result and Rivian’s notice for your vehicle rather than a general claim about the model.
