A missing bearer bond generally cannot be stopped or replaced under the published rules. A damaged bearer bond may be assessed for a face-value claim if enough of the genuine document remains. A lost registered Premium Prize Bond has a separate duplicate process.
Identify your bond before taking action
The rules differ because ordinary National Prize Bonds are bearer instruments, while Premium Prize Bonds are registered to an investor. Check the printed bond type, denomination and any registration details.

| Bond and situation | What the official guidance says | Relevant route |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary bearer bond missing | A lost or stolen bond cannot generally be stopped or replaced. The refund rules exclude claims for bonds alleged lost, stolen or wholly destroyed. | Contact SBP or National Savings for guidance, but do not assume a police report or remembered serial number secures payment. | Ordinary bearer bond damaged, with more than half presented | A face-value claim may be considered after an authorized officer examines whether the portion is genuine and whether the missing part could be used for another claim. | Ask about form PB-1-A and assessment by an SBP BSC field office. Approval is not automatic. SBP prize bond forms; Prize Bonds Refund Rules, 1963 |
| Registered Premium Prize Bond missing | A duplicate process is specified for registered bonds. | Submit PPB-7 or PPB-7(A), as applicable, with a legible copy of the FIR; the replacement is issued in the investor’s name with a new serial number. If an ordinary bearer bond is missing
National Savings describes a prize bond as a bearer instrument: ownership belongs to whoever holds it. Its FAQ says payment cannot be stopped merely because a bearer bond is reported lost, and the refund rules say a claim for a bond alleged lost, stolen or wholly destroyed will not be entertained. The published guidance does not provide a duplicate route for an ordinary bearer bond. National Savings FAQ; Prize Bonds Refund Rules, 1963

Reporting the loss or supplying a remembered serial number is not described as a way to freeze the bond or obtain another one. You can ask SBP or National Savings about your circumstances, but do not rely on a police report as a substitute for the instrument.

If an ordinary bearer bond is damaged or its number is unreadable
A partly unreadable serial number does not by itself establish whether the bond can be paid. The authorized officer must assess the remaining document. Under the 1963 rules, the presented portion must be more than half of the bond, appear to be part of a genuine bond, and have a missing section too small to support another claim. A claim may also be rejected if the officer believes the damage was deliberate or intended to support a false claim. Prize Bonds Refund Rules, 1963
- Keep the original bond and every surviving fragment. Avoid writing on it, taping it, laminating it, cutting it or otherwise altering it.
- Check SBP’s official forms page for PB-1-A, Application for Payment of face value of Mutilated/Defaced Prize Bonds. SBP prize bond forms
- Contact an SBP BSC field office to confirm where and how to submit the bond and form. Take the document for official assessment; the published rules do not guarantee that an unreadable number can be reconstructed or that a claim will be approved.
Prize-money claim and face-value refund are different
A face-value claim for a mutilated or defaced bond is not the same as a claim for prize money. National Savings lists the general prize-claim requirements as the prescribed claim form, a valid CNIC photocopy, the original winning bond and a signed copy of the bond. Its FAQ says prize claims must be made within six years of the relevant draw; the publication year of that FAQ is not stated. It also says claim forms are free. National Savings FAQ; SBP prize bond forms
SBP lists PB-23 as the Prize Money Claim Application Form. If the bond is damaged and you think it won, ask the official counter whether to submit a prize claim, a damaged-bond face-value claim, or both. The published guidance does not explain every case in which both claims may be considered. An online number check or photograph is not a replacement for the original bond where the stated claim requirements call for it. SBP prize bond forms

For a lost Premium Prize Bond, SBP’s forms page lists PPB-7 for individuals. The rules specify PPB-7 or PPB-7(A), as applicable, with a legible copy of the FIR. A replacement of equivalent face value, with a new serial number, is issued in the registered investor’s name. Ask the issuing office which form applies and confirm its current submission requirements. SBP prize bond forms; Premium Prize Bond rules

Check special guidance for withdrawn denominations
Some high-denomination bearer bonds have been withdrawn from circulation and are covered by separate SBP guidance. SBP’s withdrawn-bond FAQ says damaged withdrawn bearer bonds may be presented at 16 SBP BSC field offices and are handled under the Prize Bonds Refund Rules, 1963, through specified conversion or encashment options rather than ordinary cash-counter redemption. The FAQ’s publication year is not stated, so check current SBP notices or contact the bank before traveling. SBP FAQ on withdrawn prize bonds
