Use a physical ID or another document accepted by the person or agency requesting identification. If the phone is lost, remove the Wallet credential through your Google Account; if you get a replacement phone, follow Wallet and issuer instructions to add the ID again rather than assuming it will transfer.
If your phone is dead or out of battery
Present your physical driver’s license, state ID, passport, or another document the requester accepts. Google Wallet’s ID-sharing process requires access to the phone, so a credential stored there is not a dependable option when the device has no power.

Use another accepted physical ID, then remove the stored credential remotely from your Google Account. Google says Wallet IDs are encrypted and saved locally on the device, rather than stored as an exportable copy in your account.

Remove a US driver’s license or state ID
- Open your Google Account and go to Security & sign-in > IDs > Manage IDs.
- Select the license or state ID, then choose Delete.
These are Google’s documented menu labels; wording may change as the account interface is updated. See Google Wallet Help for driver’s licenses and state IDs.
Remove a passport-based ID pass
- Open your Google Account and go to Personal info > IDs > Manage IDs.
- Select the ID pass, then choose Delete.
Google’s removal instructions are on its ID pass help page. Removing the credential from your account is not a substitute for contacting the issuer if you need to report or replace a physical ID.

When you replace the phone
Signing in to Google Wallet on a new device does not automatically restore a mobile driver’s license or passport-based ID pass. Google says some eligible passes can be transferred or restored using supported device-to-device or cloud methods; other items must be added again manually.

Follow the Wallet setup prompts and the instructions from the state or other credential issuer. Availability and re-enrollment steps can vary by issuer, so don’t assume the ID will be ready immediately. See Google Wallet Help on transferring passes to a new device.

Where a Google Wallet ID may be accepted
US driver’s licenses and state IDs
Google says Wallet driver’s licenses and state IDs may be used at supported TSA airports and by some participating apps. For use at a TSA domestic checkpoint, the credential must be REAL ID compliant. Airport support and other acceptance depend on the location or requester, and the digital credential has the same restrictions as the physical credential. Check Google’s license and state ID guidance and the relevant airport or app before relying on it.
Passport-based ID passes
A passport-based ID pass can be used at supported TSA airports for domestic flights, but Google says it is not an official form of identification or a replacement for physical documentation. It may not be accepted everywhere. Check the ID pass requirements and confirm acceptance with the airport or other requester.

Keep the physical ID accessible
Google advises users to keep physical identification as needed for both US Wallet licenses and state IDs and passport-based ID passes. That matters when the phone is unavailable, when a location does not accept the digital credential, or when the situation requires documentation beyond what Wallet can provide.
There is also an offline limitation for US Wallet driver’s licenses and state IDs: after more than 30 consecutive days without an internet connection, Google says the ID is unavailable until the device reconnects. This does not change the fallback if the phone is lost or has no power: use an accepted physical document.

Device requirements for a passport-based ID pass
Google Wallet Help lists Android 9 or newer as a requirement for creating an ID pass, along with NFC-capable phone hardware, Bluetooth, nearby devices, and a screen lock. These are setup requirements, not a way to access the pass when the phone is missing or dead. See Google’s ID pass requirements.
