Start with the reversible checks: turn the affected connection off and back on, make sure Airplane mode is off, and restart the phone and the Wi-Fi router or Bluetooth accessory. If that does not help, compare the phone with another device and another network before resetting anything. These tests help distinguish a phone problem from a network, internet-service, or accessory issue.
Android settings vary by manufacturer and version. The menu paths below use Google Pixel as an example; search Settings for the named option or follow your phone maker’s support instructions if the labels differ.

Start with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and airplane mode
- Check the connection setting. In Settings, confirm Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is on and Airplane mode is off. Turn the affected connection off, wait briefly, and turn it back on.
- Try Airplane mode once. Turn it on, then off, and check the connection again. Android normally disables Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when Airplane mode is enabled, although that behavior can be changed on some phones.
- Restart both ends. Restart the phone. For Wi-Fi, restart the router if you can; for Bluetooth, restart the accessory or car system too.
Google’s Pixel Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance includes toggling Airplane mode as a reconnection step. If these checks do not solve the issue, use the comparisons below to narrow down where it is coming from.

Why won’t the phone connect to Wi-Fi?
Compare the phone with another device on the same network
Try another phone, tablet, or computer on the Wi-Fi network. If that device also cannot connect or get online, the issue is more likely with the network or internet service than with your new phone. Contact the network administrator or internet service provider if the connection remains unavailable.

Try the phone on a different Wi-Fi network
If another device works on the original network, try connecting your phone to a different network, such as another trusted home network. If the phone connects elsewhere, focus on the original network’s settings or access requirements. If it cannot connect to any available network while other devices can, the problem is more likely phone-side; contact the phone maker for device-specific help.
These checks distinguish joining a Wi-Fi network from reaching the internet. Google’s Pixel Phone Help says, “If your phone connects to the Wi-Fi network but you still have no internet, the problem is most likely with your internet connection.” If the phone shows connected but apps cannot get online, check the internet connection and network rather than assuming the Wi-Fi pairing failed.

Forget and rejoin the Wi-Fi network
- On a Pixel, open Settings > Network & internet > Internet.
- Select the saved network and choose Forget.
- Select the network again, or add it again, and enter its password or other required security details.
Menu labels differ across Android phones; search Settings for the network or saved Wi-Fi options if this path does not match your screen. Google also recommends checking that the phone’s date and time are set automatically, because incorrect date and time can interfere with Wi-Fi connections.

If it is a public hotspot
A café, airport, hotel, or other public hotspot may connect to Wi-Fi but still require a browser sign-in or acceptance of terms before internet access is available. Check notifications for a sign-in request. If none appears, open a new browser page to prompt the sign-in page. For managed or restricted networks, ask the administrator about authentication or access.

Why won’t a Bluetooth device pair?
- Turn Bluetooth off and back on in the phone’s Settings, and confirm the accessory is powered on and in pairing mode.
- Restart both the phone and accessory. If the accessory is a car system, use its instructions to make it available for pairing.
- If the device was paired before, remove its saved pairing from the phone. Where the accessory or car system keeps remembered phones, remove the phone there too, following that device’s instructions.
- Refresh the phone’s Bluetooth device list and pair again, following the accessory or car’s pairing instructions.
If pairing succeeds but calls or music do not work, open the paired device’s settings on the phone and check that Phone audio or Media audio is enabled, if those options are offered. Some cars do not support Bluetooth calls. Google’s Android Bluetooth help covers pairing and device settings; exact controls can vary by phone and accessory.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check updates and whether an app is interfering
Install available Android system and app updates. If Wi-Fi problems began after installing an app, test the phone in safe mode, which temporarily disables downloaded apps. Google’s Pixel guidance describes testing the connection in safe mode and removing recent apps individually if the connection works there. Safe-mode entry steps vary by manufacturer, so use your phone maker’s instructions. If Wi-Fi works in safe mode, uninstall recently added apps one at a time and check the connection after each removal.

When to reset network settings
Use the phone maker’s network reset option only after trying the simpler checks. On Pixels, Google’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting page identifies a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi reset option. The precise label and path can vary on other Android phones, so search Settings for “reset” or consult the manufacturer’s instructions.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →A network reset removes saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings. You will need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and pair your accessories again afterward. Make sure you have the passwords and pairing instructions you need before proceeding.
When to contact support—or consider a factory reset
Use the comparison results to choose whom to contact: ask the phone maker about a phone that fails on multiple networks while other devices work, and ask the network administrator or internet provider about a network that also fails for other devices. For a new phone, contact the seller or manufacturer about device-specific support, warranty, or exchange terms; policies depend on the seller and location.
A factory reset erases data from the phone. Treat it as a last resort after less destructive troubleshooting, or do it if the manufacturer directs you to. Back up important data first and follow the phone maker’s reset instructions. Google’s Pixel support guidance explains support options and reset considerations.
