If you suspect someone accessed your McDonald’s account, secure it through the official app or website, check for activity you didn’t authorize, and change any reused password. If you received a notice about exposed personal information, first confirm what data and accounts it covers; the next steps depend on that detail. The sources cited here do not confirm a specific McDonald’s customer breach, affected group, or exposed data set.
First, distinguish account misuse from an incident notice
A suspicious order or an account change you didn’t make is a reason to act on your account even if you have no breach notice. A notice, by contrast, should explain which incident, information, and dates it concerns. Don’t assume a general security warning proves your McDonald’s account or personal information was exposed.

McDonald’s Global Customer Privacy Statement, updated July 1, 2026, says, “The collection, transmission and storage of information can never be guaranteed to be completely secure.” It describes account information among the categories the company handles and advises customers to protect login credentials and not share them. Secure your McDonald’s account
If you can still sign in
- Open the McDonald’s app and select More.
- Select your profile, open Personal Settings, and choose Change Password.
- Follow the prompts. McDonald’s U.S. password-change page, dated April 13, 2022, specifies an 8–12 character alphanumeric password with lowercase and uppercase letters and a number. Because those instructions are dated, follow the current app requirements if they differ. McDonald’s password-change instructions.
If you’re locked out
- In the app, log out if needed, then go to More > Log In > Forgot Password?

- If you can’t recover access, McDonald’s account FAQ points to More > Careers, Contact & Legal > Contact Us. You can also use the company’s official site reached independently. McDonald’s account FAQs.
Don’t use a reset or support link in an unexpected message. Open the official app or type the company’s address yourself, then follow its account-recovery route. Look for changes or orders you didn’t authorize
McDonald’s Australia’s MyMacca’s safety page identifies suspicious signs including unfamiliar order requests or completed orders, receipts you don’t recognize, unauthorized account or payment-profile changes, and a password or email changed without your knowledge. These are useful indicators to check, but the guidance applies to Australia and MyMacca’s; it is not a statement of U.S. app policy. Change any password you reused elsewhere
If the McDonald’s password was also used on another service, change it there too and use a different password for each account. McDonald’s Japan warns that credentials exposed on one website may be tried on other services; this is general account-security advice, not evidence about U.S. account features. If you received a notice, establish exactly what was exposed
- Keep the notice, including its sender, date, incident description, and any stated response deadline.
- Use contact details you verify independently to ask which information, dates, and accounts are involved. A company privacy statement or account page can help you find official routes; don’t rely on a phone number or link in an unexpected message without checking it.
- Choose further steps based on the confirmed data. If the exposed information could enable identity theft, AP points U.S. readers to IdentityTheft.gov for situation-specific recovery guidance.
McDonald’s U.S. lists its Privacy Rights Center and 888-511-9903 for requests to exercise privacy rights. The company says it may verify identity and may limit a response as applicable law permits. What public filings do—and don’t—establish
McDonald’s Corporation’s 2025 Form 10-K, filed with the SEC in 2026, describes layered cybersecurity efforts and says “no company is immune to cybersecurity threats.” That is company-wide risk context, not evidence that customer accounts were breached. McDonald’s 2025 Form 10-K.

The reviewed McDonald’s sources and filing do not establish an incident-specific count of affected customers or identify a set of exposed customer data. The privacy statement’s California figures concern privacy-rights requests for January 1–December 31, 2025, not breaches: McDonald’s received 207 right-to-know/access requests (152 granted, 55 denied) and 1,855 right-to-delete requests (712 granted, 1,143 denied). Reported median completion times were 4 days for access requests and 1 day for deletion requests. These numbers describe request handling, not the scale or existence of a security incident.
