Check the preorder before doing anything else
The most reliable answer to “Where is my iPhone preorder?” is the order record itself, not the original launch-day estimate. Apple’s U.S. Shopping Help pages show status and delivery information at item level.

- Open Apple’s Order Status page and sign in with the Apple Account used for the purchase.
- If you checked out as a guest, look up the order with the order number and the postal code or email address associated with it.
- Choose the iPhone line item. If the order includes accessories or more than one product, inspect every line separately.
- Record the status, estimated delivery date, pickup information if applicable, and any tracking number shown.
Apple says items in one order ship as they become available. An iPhone and an accessory can therefore receive different estimates, separate tracking updates, and separate deliveries even though they share one order number.

The date displayed in Order Status is the current estimate for that item. It can change while Apple is sourcing or preparing the phone. Neither Apple’s cited U.S. help pages nor its terms publish a universal delay rate or average preorder wait, so do not rely on an internet-wide “normal” number.

If your iPhone preorder is delayed
When the order is still Processing
Compare the latest item-level estimate with the date in your confirmation email. A changed estimate does not by itself mean the order was canceled. Keep checking the order record for a new status, and make sure you are viewing the iPhone line rather than an accessory that may have a different schedule.
Payment processing can affect a final shipment date. If the status remains unchanged beyond the estimate, contact Apple with the order number and ask an agent to review the payment and fulfillment state. Apple’s U.S. help page lists 1-800-MY-APPLE for viewing or editing an order; verify the current contact options on Apple’s site when you call.
When the order says Preparing to Ship
This status means Apple has moved the item into final shipment preparation. Check the revised estimate and contact Apple if waiting is no longer acceptable. Do not assume that changing the address in your Apple Account will change this shipment: Apple says the shipping address cannot be changed once preparation has begun.

The public U.S. instructions do not promise that Apple will cancel an item in this state. An agent can explain the options for that particular order, but the result may depend on whether the package has already entered the carrier’s process.
When the phone has shipped
Use the tracking link in Order Status to identify the carrier, tracking number, and expected delivery event. Carrier scans can update at a different pace from Apple’s order page. If a delivery attempt fails, follow the carrier’s instructions and contact Apple if the order record and tracking information conflict.
Once dispatch has occurred, Apple says the shipping address cannot be changed. Ask Apple or the carrier what delivery-specific choices exist for your shipment, but do not count on a reroute, interception, or guaranteed hold request; those options vary by carrier, service level, destination, and the package’s current location.

How to cancel an eligible preorder
For an Apple U.S. online-store order, the practical cancellation window is while the item is in Processing and has not shipped.
- Open Order Status and select the iPhone line item.
- Confirm that the status is still Processing and that the item has a Cancel Item control.
- Choose Cancel Item, follow the confirmation steps, and save the cancellation confirmation.
- Reopen the order record to verify that the item now shows as canceled.
Apple says it initiates a refund after a cancellation request. For an eligible delivery item, Apple’s U.S. instructions say you will not be billed after the cancellation. A pickup order may already have been billed, so a pickup cancellation can involve a refund rather than simply preventing a charge. “Refund initiated” is not the same as a promise about the day funds will appear in your bank or card account; Apple’s guidance does not guarantee a posting time.
If the Cancel Item control is missing, the order may have moved to Preparing to Ship or Shipped, or the specific item may not be eligible for online cancellation. Do not repeatedly submit duplicate requests. Record the status and contact Apple for order-specific options.

What to do when Apple canceled the order
Read the notice and order record
Start with Apple’s cancellation email or message and the Canceled entry in Order Status. The notice may contain a reason specific to the order, such as a supply problem or a payment-related issue, but Apple’s general terms do not provide one universal explanation for every cancellation.
Understand what an order confirmation means
Apple’s U.S. Shopping Experience terms state that an order confirmation acknowledges receipt of the order; it is not confirmation that Apple has finally accepted it. Apple may cancel when it cannot supply the product. If Apple cancels after payment, its terms say it will refund the payment.

Check the payment method without assuming a date
Look for the refund on the card, bank account, or other payment method used for the preorder. Apple’s published guidance confirms the refund obligation but does not promise a particular posting time. Keep the cancellation message and order number until the transaction is reconciled. If the refund is not visible after allowing for your payment provider’s normal processing, contact Apple first and then the provider with Apple’s cancellation record.
Common problems while checking an order
The order does not appear after signing in
- Sign out and retry with the Apple Account that actually placed the purchase; a different account will not show the order.
- If the purchase was made as a guest, use the order number together with the postal code or email address requested by the lookup page.
- Check the original confirmation for a second order number. Separate purchases cannot be managed from the wrong record.
Only one item in a multi-item order is delayed
Open each line item rather than judging the whole order by its headline status. Apple says products ship as they become available, so one iPhone can be preparing or shipped while an accessory remains in Processing. Each item may show its own estimate and tracking information.
The estimate passed but the status has not changed
Take a screenshot or note the current estimate, status, and any payment message, then contact Apple with the order number. There is no official average-delay figure that can tell you how long a particular order will take. An agent can see order-specific information that a public status page cannot explain.
You need a different address
Update future orders in your account, but do not expect that change to affect this shipment. Apple says an address cannot be changed once the item is preparing to ship or has shipped. For a dispatched package, use only the delivery options shown by the carrier or Apple for that order.
You ordered for pickup
Check the pickup line for its own readiness message and billing state. Pickup orders may already have been billed when an eligible cancellation is requested, unlike an eligible delivery item that Apple says will not be billed after cancellation. Ask Apple about the specific store and pickup order rather than applying delivery-order assumptions.
When the seller or country is different
This process is for Apple’s U.S. online store. A wireless carrier, mobile provider, third-party retailer, or Apple store in another country may use different preorder cutoffs, payment authorization rules, cancellation rights, refund timing, pickup procedures, and tracking systems. Use that seller’s order portal and terms, and contact the seller that took the payment. Do not assume that an Apple U.S. Order Status lookup can display a carrier or retailer purchase.
