If your Galaxy shows SOS, No service or Searching after you moved to Mint Mobile, work through the checks in this order: confirm the phone is unlocked, verify that a number port has finished, check the Mint SIM or eSIM selection, test coverage, then review APN settings for data or picture-messaging problems. Reset mobile-network settings and contact Mint only after those simpler checks.
Start with the quick connection checks
These first steps clear temporary radio and software states without erasing personal data. Samsung notes that wording and menu locations can differ by Galaxy model and software version.

- Turn off Airplane mode. Open Quick settings and make sure the airplane icon is off. If it is already off, turn it on for about 30 seconds and turn it off again to force a fresh network search.
- Restart the phone. A reboot reloads the modem, SIM profile and carrier registration.
- Install pending software updates. Open Settings > Software update > Download and install (the exact labels may vary), then restart if an update is applied.
- Read the status message carefully. “SOS” or “No service” generally indicates that the phone is not registered on a mobile network. “Searching” means it is still trying to find one. If bars appear but mobile data or picture messages fail, skip ahead to the APN section.
Do not assume that an APN edit will fix a complete loss of radio service. APN values control packet data and multimedia messaging after the phone has connected to the network; they do not unlock a phone or create coverage.

Check the Galaxy’s carrier lock
A Galaxy bought from another carrier may be restricted to that carrier’s network. Mint says a phone that is still locked to the previous carrier cannot use a Mint SIM. Samsung’s carrier-switch guidance states that the outbound carrier must unlock a bring-your-own-device phone before activation. Only the previous carrier can confirm its unlock status and any eligibility requirements, such as a paid-off balance or completed installment plan.

Ask the former carrier to verify the device’s unlock status using the phone’s IMEI. Do not rely solely on a message that the account is closed; account closure and SIM unlocking are separate actions. After the carrier confirms an unlock, restart the Galaxy and retry Mint activation.
Check a ported number before installing a Mint eSIM
If you brought your existing number to Mint and chose an eSIM, Mint says the number transfer should be complete before the eSIM is installed. Check the Mint app or the confirmation email for the transfer status. A port can take longer than a few minutes, so a pending transfer is not proof that the Galaxy is defective. Installing an eSIM too early can leave the line in an incomplete state; follow Mint’s activation instructions once the transfer is confirmed.
Check the SIM or eSIM branch that matches your phone
Physical SIMs and eSIMs require different handling. Use only the branch that applies to your installation.

Temporarily avoid dual-SIM conflicts
If another physical SIM or eSIM is active, temporarily disable that other line in SIM manager while you activate Mint. Keep the Mint line enabled and set as the default for calls and mobile data. After service works, you can re-enable the second line and choose defaults deliberately. If the Mint line is missing entirely from SIM manager, activation or provisioning needs to be checked with Mint rather than repaired with an APN change.
Test coverage and network selection
Rule out the location
Mint says reception can be reduced or unavailable in rural areas, deep inside buildings and underground. Walk outside or move to a location where you normally see service, then allow a minute for registration. Check Mint’s coverage map for the address, but treat the map as an estimate rather than a guarantee for a particular room or building.
Mint’s network update page claims 4G LTE coverage reaches “99% of Americans.” That is Mint’s own statement, not an independent measurement and not a promise of reception at your address. A single blocked building, terrain feature or local outage can still produce SOS.

Try automatic network selection and a compatible mode
In Settings > Connections > Mobile networks, leave network operators on automatic selection unless Mint support gives you a specific manual choice. Review Network mode and choose an automatic option that includes the network generations supported by your Galaxy and plan (for example, a 5G/LTE/3G/2G auto setting where offered). If a newly selected mode causes searching, return to the previous automatic option and restart.

Fix mobile data or picture messaging with APN settings
APN troubleshooting applies when the Galaxy has a network connection or bars but mobile internet or MMS does not work. It is not the first explanation for a phone that stays on SOS everywhere.

Use Mint’s automatic setup first
After activation and SIM or eSIM setup, Mint offers an Android setup text: send SETUP to 6700. Follow the response and restart if prompted. If the message does not arrive, or settings are still incomplete, use Mint’s current manual instructions rather than copying values from an old forum post; carrier settings can change.

On many Galaxies, the editor is under Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Access Point Names. Tap Add or edit the Mint profile, enter the values exactly as Mint currently publishes them, save, select the profile, and restart. Menu names can differ by model and software version. Leave fields that Mint does not specify at their default or blank values; guessing at proxy, username or password entries can create a new problem.

If the phone is unlocked, the Mint line is active, coverage is available and APN or selection changes did not help, reset the mobile-network configuration. On Samsung’s documented path, open Settings > General management > Reset > Reset mobile network settings. Confirm the reset, then restart and let the Galaxy register again. Your model may use slightly different wording.
This is not a factory reset and does not erase photos, apps or messages. It does remove saved network-related data, including Wi-Fi passwords and saved Wi-Fi networks, so you will need to reconnect to those networks. Because of that loss, perform this step only after the simpler checks and make sure you know your Wi-Fi passwords first. A reset is not guaranteed to restore service; it simply clears corrupted or conflicting network configuration.
When to contact Mint Care
Escalate when the Galaxy remains without service after the checks above, or when the Mint line never appears correctly in SIM manager. Ask Mint to verify four items on the account:
- activation completed for the exact Galaxy and SIM or eSIM;
- the number transfer is complete rather than pending or rejected;
- the account is accessible and in good standing; and
- the SIM/eSIM is provisioned for voice, text and data.
Mint lists phone support at 800-683-7392 and offers chat. If the activated Galaxy cannot place a call, contact Mint from another phone or use chat. Have the Galaxy’s model, IMEI, Mint account details, activation status, error wording and the location where you tested available. Samsung directs account and network-access issues to the carrier, so a Samsung repair appointment is not the first response to a provisioning or porting problem.
Match the symptom to the likely branch

Common mistakes to avoid
- Factory-resetting too soon: Mint and Samsung’s first-line guidance does not make a factory reset the starting fix. It erases personal data and will not unlock the phone or complete a port.
- Deleting an eSIM: A deleted eSIM may not be recoverable through a simple reinstall. Keep it in place while Mint checks the transfer and provisioning state.
- Treating APN as a signal booster: APN values affect data routing and MMS, not the phone’s ability to see a radio network.
- Assuming a map guarantees indoor reception: coverage estimates cannot account for every building, basement, terrain feature or temporary outage.
- Repeating a network reset: Each reset can remove saved Wi-Fi networks without addressing a lock, port or carrier-side provisioning error.
What the April 2026 network-security change means
Mint describes a network security-standard transition dated April 1, 2026. The published information does not present that date as the likely cause of an individual Galaxy showing SOS or No service. Diagnose the concrete conditions above—unlock status, transfer completion, SIM/eSIM state, coverage, network mode and provisioning—before attributing a symptom to a broad network change.
