First confirm which DeWitt you mean. The relevant notice is for the Town of DeWitt in Onondaga County, New York. DeWitt Charter Township is a separate municipality in Michigan, and its ordinance information does not establish the law in New York.

A Town of DeWitt notice published September 13, 2026, scheduled a public hearing for September 28, 2026, on a proposed local law. The proposal would prohibit defined short-term rentals as principal and accessory uses in all Town zoning districts. A hearing notice is not an adopted law: it does not prove the Town Board passed the proposal, establish an effective date, or say what happens to reservations made earlier. The Town code index surfaced in the available records says it includes legislation through June 29, 2026—before the scheduled hearing. Check the Town’s final law, Board minutes, or Clerk’s record for the hearing’s outcome, the adopted text if any, its effective date, and any transition rules for existing reservations. Can I get my money back if my rental is canceled?
The cancellation notice alone does not settle that question. Compare what happened with the cancellation, refund, and relocation terms in your booking confirmation and the policy displayed when you reserved. Ask the platform or host to identify the specific term it is applying and explain the outcome in writing.
The proposed local law does not, by itself, establish a refund entitlement or determine whether a stay booked before any possible effective date can proceed. The available Town notice does not resolve those issues, and the reservation’s platform, contract, cancellation reason, and applicable law matter. If the platform’s dispute process does not resolve the issue, seek advice based on your records rather than assuming a chargeback or statutory remedy will succeed.

Where can I stay instead?
Hotels and motels are recognized lodging categories in the Town code, so they are a reasonable place to start while checking alternatives. The code does not establish which properties have space for your dates or meet your needs. Contact a property directly before booking and confirm:
- Availability for the complete stay and the total cost, including taxes and fees.
- Distance from your destination, parking, and transport options.
- Guest capacity and any accessibility requirements.
- Cancellation terms and whether the quoted rate is refundable.
- The lodging category and any taxes that apply to that stay.
A Town local law adopted in 2023 states a 2.00% hotel-room occupancy tax effective January 1, 2024 for covered hotel occupancy. Do not assume that rate applies to every kind of lodging or that a quoted price includes it; verify the tax and total directly with the property.
