Ask for a specific remedy—replacement, refund, or another resolution—and keep the complete exchange. If the seller does not resolve the problem, use the marketplace’s complaint process and ask your payment provider whether a dispute is available before any deadline expires.
Start with evidence, not repairs
A damaged skateboard deck is easiest to resolve when you can show what arrived, how it was packed, and when you reported it. Do not sand, glue, drill, apply grip tape, or otherwise alter the deck before the seller tells you what to do. If the damage could affect the deck’s structural strength, do not ride it while the complaint is pending.

Photograph the outside of the shipment
- Take a clear picture of the entire parcel before discarding or flattening anything.
- Photograph the shipping label so the order and tracking details are readable.
- Capture dents, punctures, crushed corners, wet areas, torn tape, or other marks on the box or mailer.
- If the parcel was delivered with visible damage, photograph it before opening, when practical.
Photograph the deck and inner packing
- Take one image showing the whole deck, then close-ups of every chip, crack, dent, delamination, scrape, or other defect.
- Photograph the internal padding and how the deck was positioned inside the package.
- If the deck is still inside its blind bag, photograph the sealed bag and its condition before opening it.
- Keep the original box, mailer, labels, inserts, protective material, and blind bag. A seller or carrier may ask to inspect them.
Save the order confirmation, receipt, product listing, delivery date, tracking page, and payment record. The Federal Trade Commission’s consumer guidance recommends collecting purchase documents and retaining copies of what you send. Store the original, unedited photos and make a backup somewhere you can access later.

Blind-bag products create two different complaints. A random graphic that you simply do not like is not the same as a deck that arrived physically damaged. Describe the condition accurately and do not frame an unwanted variant as a defect.

What “blind bag” changes
The seller chooses the design from an assortment, so you normally cannot demand a particular graphic merely because it was your preference. For example, one Zumiez listing for a Girl collaboration stated a 70% chance of the standard design, a 20% chance of a silver-foil version, and a 10% chance of a gold-foil version. That listing described an 8.25-inch-wide, 31.975-inch-long deck shipped without grip tape applied. Those odds and specifications apply to that listing, not to every blind-bag deck.
What it does not establish
A randomized design does not explain a cracked deck, broken edge, warped construction, or shipping impact. Report physical damage separately from dissatisfaction with the graphic. Include the exact variant you received in your message, but make the requested remedy about the condition of the item.
Opening the bag can affect a retailer’s ordinary return terms. If the bag remains sealed, document that fact before opening it and ask the seller whether it wants the item left sealed. If you already opened it to inspect the deck, say so plainly and preserve the bag and all packaging.

Read the policy for your actual order
Find the return, defective-merchandise, final-sale, and blind-bag language attached to the order you placed. Save a copy or screenshot showing the wording and date, because online policies can change.

Retailer examples illustrate why you must check the actual terms. A Zumiez listing for one Girl blind-bag deck said opened bags could not be returned. Skate Warehouse describes inspection of defective merchandise while also identifying blind-bag products as final sale. These are retailer-specific examples, not a universal rule or a guarantee that a particular complaint will be accepted or rejected.
Contact the seller in writing
Use the retailer’s or marketplace’s official support channel: the order page, support form, or account message system. The FTC says, “Contact the seller immediately if you run into problems with a seller on an online marketplace.” A written report creates a date-stamped record and lets you attach the evidence in one place.

Include the facts support needs
- Order number and the account email or name used for the purchase.
- Delivery date and tracking number.
- Product name and the design or variant received.
- A short, factual description of each damaged area.
- Whether the blind bag was sealed when delivered and whether it has since been opened.
- Photographs of the parcel, label, packaging, sealed bag if applicable, whole deck, and close-ups.
- The remedy you want: replacement, refund, or another specific resolution.
Use a clear request
State what you want the seller to do and ask for instructions before sending the deck anywhere. You can write:

My blind-bag skateboard deck was delivered on [date]. The parcel and deck show the damage described below. I have attached photos of the outer packaging, shipping label, inner packing, and the complete deck.
Damage: [brief factual description].
Blind-bag condition: [sealed when delivered / opened for inspection].
I am requesting a [replacement / refund / other resolution]. Please tell me whether you want the deck and packaging returned, provide any required authorization or label, and confirm what I should do while this report is being reviewed.Keep a copy of the sent message, attachments, automated ticket number, and every reply. If support calls you, write down the date, representative’s name if provided, and the instructions you were given; then ask for those instructions in the message thread.
Choose the remedy that fits the condition
Ask for a remedy rather than assuming one. Your practical choice depends on whether the deck is safe and usable, whether the seller has stock, and how the seller handles blind-bag assortments.

If the deck has a crack, severe warp, split edge, or other condition that could make riding unsafe, leave it unused until the seller responds. Do not attempt a repair that could hide the original damage or change the evidence.

Escalate through the marketplace
After giving the original seller a reasonable opportunity to respond, open the marketplace’s buyer-protection or complaint process. Follow its instructions exactly and check the filing deadline. Upload the same concise timeline and evidence rather than sending contradictory descriptions. Include the seller’s replies, refusal, or lack of response.

Close it only after the replacement arrives in acceptable condition or the agreed refund is actually posted, according to the marketplace’s rules.

Ask the payment provider about dispute options
If direct contact and marketplace escalation fail, contact the card issuer or other payment provider and explain that the merchandise arrived damaged. Ask which procedure applies, what evidence is required, and the deadline. The FTC’s cited online-shopping guidance describes a 60-day period for the billing-error process it discusses for credit-card transactions. That period is not a universal deadline for every payment method or every damaged-item claim, so confirm the rule for your transaction instead of waiting.
Provide the order record, delivery date, photographs, seller correspondence, policy wording, and any marketplace case number. Continue to follow the payment provider’s instructions even if the seller later contacts you.
Common mistakes that weaken a damage claim
- Throwing away the packaging: The parcel and padding can show whether the impact occurred during shipment.
- Riding or modifying the deck: Use, grip-tape application, sanding, or glue can make the original condition harder to establish.
- Reporting only that you dislike the design: State the physical defect and distinguish it from the random graphic.
- Opening a sealed bag before photographing it: Capture the sealed state first and ask whether the seller wants it kept that way.
- Sending the item without authorization: Obtain return instructions and keep the tracking receipt.
- Relying on another retailer’s policy: A term found on a different seller’s page does not govern your order.
- Waiting until a deadline is close: Report promptly and record the date you first contacted support.
- Accepting verbal promises only: Keep the remedy, timing, and shipping instructions in writing.
A simple timeline to follow
- At delivery: Photograph visible parcel damage and keep the package intact.
- During inspection: Photograph the sealed bag if present, then photograph the whole deck and each defect.
- That day: Save the order, receipt, listing, tracking record, and policy pages.
- Promptly after discovery: Send a written report with the order number, delivery date, evidence, and requested remedy.
- While waiting: Do not ride, repair, or discard the deck or packaging. Keep every response.
- If unresolved: Use the marketplace’s complaint process before its deadline.
- If necessary: Ask the payment provider about the correct dispute process and deadline for your payment method.
What you can and cannot conclude from a final-sale term
A final-sale statement may limit ordinary returns for preference, including wanting a different random graphic. It does not let you accurately describe a damaged deck as a design mismatch, and the policy language for your transaction must be read in context. The cited retailer pages do not establish that a final-sale term automatically decides every damage complaint. They also do not establish a universal right to a refund, replacement, or return-shipping reimbursement.

The outcome can depend on your location, the seller, the exact wording shown at checkout, the type and timing of the damage, whether the item was opened or used, and how you paid. If you need a legal determination, those facts must be evaluated under the rules that apply to your transaction.
When the case is closed
Inspect a replacement before applying grip tape or riding it. Photograph its condition on arrival and compare it with the agreed remedy. If the seller issues a refund, confirm the amount and retain the confirmation and payment-provider posting until the transaction is complete. Keep the full file—photos, messages, labels, tracking, and case numbers—in case the marketplace or payment provider asks for follow-up.
