Assume your PSN password is compromised. Stop using the fake store, secure the email account linked to PlayStation first, then change your PSN password or sign-in method in official PlayStation Account Management. Turn on 2-step verification (2SV), save the backup codes, inspect transactions and subscriptions, and contact PlayStation Support immediately if you are locked out or see changes you did not make.
Stop the phishing session and contain the exposure
Close the fake page and do not return to it. Do not enter another password, your recovery codes, payment information, or a 2SV code to “verify” the account. A page can copy PlayStation logos, colors, and checkout screens and still be controlled by a scammer. The information you already entered should be treated as available to the attacker.

If the page downloaded a file, browser extension, or app, do not open it. Remove anything you installed from that page and run your device’s normal security scan. The urgent account steps below matter even if the page disappeared or appeared to be a perfect copy of the PlayStation Store.
Secure the email account that controls PSN recovery
Change the password on the email account linked to PSN before changing the PlayStation password, or do both immediately if you can work quickly. Whoever controls that mailbox may be able to request a password reset, read security alerts, or intercept account-recovery messages.

- Open your email provider’s official app or type its known address yourself. Do not use a link from the suspicious page or an unexpected message.
- Change the email password to a long, unique password that has not been used on any other service.
- Enable the email provider’s strongest available multifactor protection and review its recovery phone numbers, alternate addresses, active sessions, and forwarding rules.
- Sign out unfamiliar sessions and remove devices or applications you do not recognize.
Do not reuse the password that was exposed on the fake store. PlayStation warns that using one password across multiple accounts increases the risk when any one of those accounts is compromised.
Change the PSN password or sign-in method through official Account Management
Use an official PlayStation app, console settings page, or PlayStation Account Management site that you open independently. Avoid search advertisements, messages, and browser tabs left open by the fake store. PlayStation places security controls in Account Management under Security; the available settings include the sign-in ID, passkey, password, mobile number, and 2-step verification.
- Sign in to official Account Management.
- Open Security.
- Choose Password (or the relevant sign-in-method control) and replace the exposed credential.
- Use a password that is unique to PlayStation and is not a variation of the old one.
- Review the sign-in ID, online ID, mobile number, and passkey settings while you are in the same section. If any value was changed without your permission, treat the account as actively taken over and move to the recovery steps below.
If your account supports a passkey and you understand how it is stored on your device, you can use the sign-in-method option in Security instead of relying only on a password. Whatever method you select, make the change from an official PlayStation control, not from the page that captured your credentials.

Turn on 2-step verification and preserve the backup codes
2SV adds a second check after the password. PlayStation documents both SMS and authenticator-app methods. An authenticator app is independent of a compromised password and can be preferable when you can keep the device and its recovery information safe; SMS is available when that is the method you can reliably access.
- In Account Management, open Security and select 2-step verification.
- Choose SMS or an authenticator app and complete the enrollment prompts.
- Enter the verification code requested by the official PlayStation flow.
- Record every backup code and store it somewhere private, such as an offline password-manager vault or another secure location. Do not save the codes in the fake site, send them to anyone, or leave them in a public note.
Backup codes are for the situation in which you cannot receive your normal 2SV code. They are not a replacement for changing the exposed password. If you receive a 2SV prompt you did not initiate, deny it and continue with account-security and recovery steps; an unexpected prompt can indicate that someone is trying to sign in with the stolen credential.
Check for account changes, purchases, and subscriptions
After changing the sign-in method, inspect the account for activity that occurred while the password was exposed. Open PlayStation Store Transaction History and review subscription settings for purchases, renewals, or cancellations you do not recognize. Also check the account’s saved payment methods and remove anything you did not add.

- Record the date, amount, title, and transaction identifier for every unfamiliar transaction.
- Check recurring subscriptions separately; an unfamiliar renewal may not appear in the same place as a one-time game purchase.
- Look for changes to the sign-in ID, online ID, mobile number, passkey, or 2SV settings.
- Contact PlayStation Support promptly about an unrecognized payment or any security setting you cannot restore.
Do not wait for another charge before contacting Support. The earlier Support can see the account state and transaction history, the more useful the investigation can be.
Choose the recovery path that matches your account
Your next step depends on whether you can still sign in, whether the linked email remains under your control, and whether the attacker changed account details. Use this decision table rather than repeatedly guessing passwords.

If the scammer changed your email or password
A changed sign-in ID, online ID, or password is a sign that the attacker may have taken control rather than merely collecting a credential. Do not keep trying random passwords or send personal information to the fake store. Use PlayStation’s official account-recovery flow or Online Assistant. PlayStation specifically directs users with an unrecognized sign-in-ID, online-ID, or password change to the Online Assistant.

Have the account information you legitimately control ready for Support, but provide it only through an official PlayStation channel. Tell Support that you entered the password on a fraudulent PlayStation Store page, identify any changed settings, and list unfamiliar transactions. If your email account was also exposed, explain that it has been secured or that recovery is still in progress.

First confirm that you are using the correct phone number or authenticator entry and that your device’s time is set automatically; an incorrect clock can make authenticator codes fail. If you saved backup codes during enrollment, use one through the official sign-in flow and then replace the 2SV setup after you regain access.
Never give a 2SV code to a person who contacts you by message, phone, or email. A legitimate support representative will not need a code delivered to your device to “unlock” an account through a third-party page. Persistent code problems should go to PlayStation’s 2SV troubleshooting guidance and then the Online Assistant.
Change every reused password
If the password entered on the fake store was used anywhere else, change it on every affected service. Start with email, financial accounts, cloud storage, social networks, and any service that can reset another account. Change each password from that service’s official app or website, sign out other sessions where the service offers that control, and enable multifactor protection.
A password manager can generate and remember a different password for each account. PlayStation’s security guidance recommends unique passwords and keeping a password manager. The important property is separation: a future breach of one service should not provide the key to PSN or your email.
How to avoid another fake storefront
- Open the PlayStation Store from your console, the official PlayStation app, or a bookmark you created yourself.
- Inspect the address before signing in. A familiar logo, padlock, or copied layout does not prove that the site belongs to PlayStation.
- Treat urgent warnings about suspended accounts, expiring discounts, or “verification” as a reason to pause rather than enter a code.
- Do not follow a sign-in link from an unsolicited message when you can navigate to Account Management independently.
- Never share your account details. PlayStation’s security guidance states: “Never share your account details.”
If someone signs in, they may change sign-in information and lock you out. That is why securing the linked email, replacing the exposed credential, and adding 2SV should happen before investigating how convincing the fake page looked.

What PlayStation can and cannot establish from your account
Transaction history and security settings can show whether purchases or account changes occurred, but an empty history does not make the exposed password safe. The password should remain changed and unique, and 2SV should stay enabled. Conversely, an unfamiliar transaction or changed sign-in method is evidence that requires immediate Support involvement, not a reason to negotiate with the person who sent the phishing link.
There is no reliable universal figure for how often fake PlayStation Stores steal credentials or how much victims lose. The practical response is the same regardless of the scam’s scale: contain the exposure, protect the recovery email, restore official sign-in control, add a second factor, and investigate account activity.
