Treat the PlayStation password as stolen. Stop using the fake store, move to a trusted device, change the PlayStation password and any reused passwords, secure the email account tied to PlayStation, and sign out other devices. If you are locked out or see changed account details, use PlayStation’s official recovery and support channels. Check transactions and bank statements if payment information was exposed.
First, stop dealing with the fake store
Close the counterfeit store and do not return to it. Do not use its phone number, chat widget, email address, password-reset link or “support” account. A phishing operator may use a second conversation to collect more information, persuade you to install software or pressure you into sending payment or identity documents.

Use a device you trust, such as your normal phone or computer, and open PlayStation Account Management or PlayStation Support by typing the address yourself or using a bookmark you created previously. Do not follow a link in the suspicious message, advertisement or fake receipt. The Federal Trade Commission advises contacting a company through a website or telephone number known to be genuine rather than details supplied by a suspicious message.

Change the PlayStation password immediately
Entering a password into a counterfeit sign-in page means you should assume the password is exposed, even if the fake store appeared to reject it. Sign in through the official PlayStation account-management site and change the password without waiting for a suspicious charge or a lockout.

- Open the official Account Management page directly on your trusted device.
- Sign in, open the account security settings and choose the password-change option.
- Create a new, long and unique password that has not been used on any other service.
- Save it in a reputable password manager or another secure method rather than in a browser or note that other people can access.
If you used the same password anywhere else, change those accounts too. Start with email, banking, payment services, social accounts and any account that can reset another account. PlayStation’s security guidance states: “Using the same password across multiple accounts increases your risk if one of those accounts is compromised.” A password change on PlayStation does not automatically fix reuse elsewhere.
Do not disclose the new password or a one-time verification code to anyone claiming to be support. Legitimate support staff do not need your complete password or a code generated for your sign-in.
Secure the email account linked to PlayStation
Your PlayStation account may depend on its email inbox for password-reset messages, recovery links and security alerts. If an attacker controls that inbox, they can often undo a PlayStation password change. Change the email account’s password from its provider’s genuine website or app, using a trusted device.

- Choose a password that is different from your PlayStation password and every other password.
- Turn on two-step verification or a passkey when the email provider offers one.
- Review recent sign-ins, forwarding rules, recovery addresses and phone numbers.
- Remove unknown devices, active sessions, app passwords and third-party applications.
- Check sent mail, deleted mail and filters for messages or rules created by an intruder.
If you cannot access the inbox, use the provider’s official account-recovery process. Do not rely on a recovery link sent by the fake store. PlayStation’s compromised-account guidance places email security before account recovery because access to that inbox may be needed to restore the PlayStation account.

Sign out every PlayStation device
If you can still sign in, end sessions that an attacker may have opened. In Account Management, go to Security > Sign Out on All Devices. The control may be labelled slightly differently by region or account interface, so use the security section shown for your country.
After signing out, sign in again only on devices you recognize. Review the account’s security information, including the sign-in ID, online ID, phone number, passkey or two-step-verification method, and connected devices. Look for an email address, phone number, console or security method that you did not add. Record unexpected changes before correcting them if you may need to describe the incident to support.
If you no longer have access, you may not be able to perform the all-device sign-out yourself. Tell PlayStation Support that the credentials were entered on a phishing site and ask what session-termination steps are available for a compromised account.
If you are locked out or account details changed
Use only PlayStation’s official account-recovery flow. It supports the recovery routes displayed for your account, including email and passkey options. Begin with the official recovery page rather than a link from an email, text message or social-media reply.

- Try the official password-reset or account-recovery option with the original sign-in email address.
- Check the secured email inbox, including spam and junk folders, for a genuine PlayStation message.
- If the sign-in ID, online ID or password was changed, or recovery messages do not arrive, stop repeated guesses and contact PlayStation Support through the official support page or Online Assistant.
- Provide the information support requests through its secure process. Do not send your full password, one-time code or payment-card security code in an unsolicited message.
Support options and identity checks vary by country. Use the PlayStation support site for your region; instructions for the United States, Ireland and other countries may not be identical. If the attacker changed the email address, securing your original email account first gives you the best chance of completing recovery.
Harden the account after you regain control
Once the account is yours again, add a second barrier so a stolen password alone is less useful. In PlayStation account security settings, enable a passkey or two-step verification if that option is available for your account and region.
- Passkey: Register it only on devices and password-manager hardware you control. Keep the device lock or biometric protection enabled.
- Two-step verification: Choose the method offered by PlayStation, store backup codes somewhere private and never forward a code to another person.
- Recovery information: Confirm that the email address and phone number are yours and current.
- Sessions: Sign out unknown devices and repeat the all-device sign-out if you discover additional suspicious activity.
The FTC explains why this matters: “Requiring two or more credentials to log in makes it harder for scammers to get into your accounts, even if they get your username and password.” Stronger sign-in does not make a phishing password safe, but it limits what an attacker can do with it.

Review PlayStation transaction history and active subscriptions for purchases, wallet funding, subscription changes or payment methods you did not authorize. Take screenshots or download records showing dates, amounts and transaction identifiers before disputing anything.

If you entered a card number, bank details or billing information on the fake store, check the relevant account through the bank or card issuer’s genuine app or website. For an unfamiliar charge, contact the issuer immediately using the number printed on the card or an official statement. Ask about blocking or replacing the card, stopping recurring payments and disputing unauthorized transactions. Do not call a number displayed on the fake store.
Continue checking statements after the incident. A criminal may wait before attempting a charge, and a small unfamiliar authorization can precede a larger transaction. Keep copies of support case numbers, transaction records and messages; they can help both the platform and your financial institution investigate.

In the United States, report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.gov. The FTC also lists [email protected] for forwarding phishing email. Use your country’s official consumer-protection or cybercrime reporting service if you are elsewhere.

Do not revisit the site to collect evidence, download files or test whether it is still active. If the site is open, close the tab and let the reporting authority handle the link.
Check your devices without giving the scammer another opportunity
If you only typed credentials into a web page and did not install anything, the urgent risk is credential reuse and account takeover. If you downloaded a file, installed a browser extension, granted remote access or entered a one-time code, treat the device as potentially compromised.
- Disconnect a device that is behaving suspiciously from sensitive accounts while you secure those accounts from another trusted device.
- Remove software or browser extensions you do not recognize and update the operating system, browser and security software.
- Run the device’s built-in security scan and follow the manufacturer’s recovery guidance if malware is detected.
- Change passwords from a clean device, especially for email, banking and payment accounts.
Do not install a “cleanup” tool recommended by the fake store or by an unsolicited caller. That can extend the compromise.
Common mistakes that make the incident worse
- Waiting for proof: A successful sign-in to the fake page is enough reason to replace the password; do not wait for an unauthorized purchase.
- Changing only PlayStation: Reused passwords can expose email, banking or other services.
- Using the scammer’s contact details: The same operator may impersonate support and request codes or payment.
- Ignoring the inbox: An attacker with email access can reset the PlayStation password again.
- Sharing verification codes: A code can complete an attacker’s sign-in even after you changed the password.
- Repeatedly guessing after lockout: Use official recovery and support instead of creating more failed attempts or responding to unofficial helpers.
- Assuming a password reset ends every session: Use the all-device sign-out control when available and ask support about sessions if you are locked out.
A practical response timeline

How to recognize the real recovery path next time
Start from a saved bookmark or a manually entered official address, not a sponsored result, shortened link or urgent message. Check the domain carefully before entering credentials, and be suspicious of a store offering unusually cheap console credit, games or subscriptions while demanding an immediate sign-in. A padlock or encrypted connection does not prove that a site is operated by PlayStation; it only describes the connection to that site.
Keep passwords unique, use a passkey or two-step verification, and treat unexpected requests for verification codes as a warning. PlayStation’s own security guidance and FTC consumer advice both emphasize that layered authentication and distinct passwords reduce the damage when a phishing page captures a username and password.
The Bottom Line
Assume the credentials are compromised: stop using the fake store, change the PlayStation and reused passwords, secure the linked email, sign out all devices, recover through official PlayStation Support if necessary, enable stronger sign-in protection, and check transactions and financial statements.
