If you already ran it, treat your device as potentially compromised—not as definitely infected—and take the steps below. The official GTA VI information currently lists the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a November 19, 2026 release date; it does not list a PC version. That makes a purported playable PC build or installer inconsistent with Rockstar’s published availability information.
Is the GTA 6 download real?
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists a November 19, 2026 release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The page does not list a PC version. A file claiming to be a playable GTA VI PC build or installer is therefore not supported by the currently published official information. This is a statement about what Rockstar lists now, not a claim that it can never announce another platform.

Rockstar’s support information also says the physical version is a box containing a download code, not a disc. A disc-shaped package or supposed game disc does not establish that a copy is genuine.
Choose the response based on what happened
You downloaded it but never opened it
- Do not open or extract the file, even to check what is inside.
- Delete it using your device’s normal file manager. Empty the Recycle Bin or Trash if appropriate.
A download alone does not prove that your device is infected. The immediate priority is to avoid running the file.

You opened or ran it on Windows
- Open Windows Security and update its security intelligence.
- Run a full scan. Microsoft’s instructions are in How to start a scan for viruses or malware in Microsoft Defender.
- If you remain concerned or unwanted software persists, run Microsoft Defender Offline. Microsoft describes it as the most complete scan option. Save open work first: the offline scan restarts the PC. After scanning, review Protection history for results.
- If Windows Security detects a threat, follow its quarantine or removal prompts. Do not turn off protection or add an exclusion to make the file run; an exclusion prevents the excluded item from being scanned.
Microsoft’s instructions are for Windows. If you used a console or another operating system, don’t assume these steps apply; use the device maker’s or platform provider’s official support channel.
You entered a password or payment information
- From a device you have reason to trust, change any password entered into the fake installer or related site. Change it on other accounts too if you reused it.
- Enable an additional sign-in factor on affected accounts where available.
- If you submitted payment details, contact your bank or payment provider through its official app or independently verified contact information.
Entering credentials means you should treat them as exposed, even if you do not know whether the site or file misused them. The FTC’s guidance on phishing scams explains why information entered on a deceptive site can put accounts at risk.

Get help safely if the device still seems suspicious
Use the computer maker’s or operating-system provider’s official support channel, reached independently. Do not call a number displayed in an unexpected virus warning or pop-up, and do not follow a pop-up’s instructions to install remote-access software or pay for a cleanup.
