Choose the recovery route for your sign-in problem
| What’s happening | What to try | When to contact PlayStation |
|---|---|---|
| You forgot your password | Use Account Management’s account recovery flow and the sign-in email address. | If you can’t access that email or the recovery flow does not work. |
| Your passkey isn’t available | Sign in using another device with the same verification method registered, then register a new passkey. | If you have no such device, use the Online Assistant. |
| You can’t get a 2-step verification code | Request another code, check your phone, or use a saved one-time backup code. | If you have neither a backup code nor access to the registered phone. |
| Your password works nowhere, or account details changed unexpectedly | Try Account Management in a browser and check for an account notice. | If your email, online ID, or password changed without your permission, use official account recovery. |
| Sign-in fails only on a console | Update system software, restart the console and router, and test a wired connection. | If the issue persists or the account may be suspended. |
Reset a forgotten password
- Open PlayStation Account Management and select Trouble Signing in? > Recover Your Account.
- Enter the email address used as your PlayStation account sign-in ID.
- Open the secure recovery link PlayStation sends and follow its instructions. Delivery may take a few minutes; check spam or junk if it does not appear.
PlayStation’s password reset instructions also describe recovery through PS5 and PS4 sign-in flows. A child account’s password can be reset only by its family manager. If you entered an address with a typo, or an address that is not the account’s sign-in ID, the recovery message will not reach the right inbox.
If your passkey is unavailable
If another device has the same verification method registered, use it to sign in and then register a new passkey. If you cannot use another registered device, PlayStation directs you to its Online Assistant for passkey sign-in problems. If the issue occurs on a device or service where PlayStation recommends using a password, follow its instructions to switch back to password sign-in.

If you can’t receive a 2-step verification code
PlayStation sends a code to the mobile number registered for 2-step verification or generates one through an authenticator app. For a missing SMS, try these checks:
- Select Resend Code and allow a few minutes for delivery.
- Restart your phone, make sure airplane mode is off, and check that you have mobile reception.
- If you previously saved a backup code, use it instead. PlayStation provides 10 backup codes, and each code works once.
If you have no unused backup code and cannot access the registered phone number, contact PlayStation through its 2-step verification support route. There is no supported bypass for 2-step verification.
If you can’t access your email or account details changed
Your sign-in ID is the email address on the account. If you cannot open that mailbox, have forgotten which email you used, or cannot receive a recovery or verification message there, PlayStation directs you to its Online Assistant for sign-in problems.

Check the account in a browser
Try signing in to Account Management on the web. If you can sign in there but not on your console, focus first on the console or its connection. If web sign-in also fails, the problem may involve account verification, recovery, or account status.
Check the sign-in ID and verification email
Confirm that you are using the email address registered to the account. If the account’s sign-in email was never verified, search the inbox for “PlayStation verify” and follow the verification instructions.

- If you use Wi-Fi, try connecting the console to the router with an Ethernet cable.
These are among PlayStation’s recommended sign-in troubleshooting steps.
Check whether the account is suspended
A suspension can prevent sign-in. PlayStation generally sends an email explaining the reason and duration, so check the account’s sign-in inbox, including spam or junk. Use the official suspension support information to check the status and available next steps.
What to have ready when contacting support
If self-service recovery is unavailable, use PlayStation’s Online Assistant rather than a third-party recovery service. Explain which recovery methods you can still access—for example, the sign-in email, a registered device, or a saved backup code—and whether any account details changed unexpectedly. PlayStation’s official sign-in support page identifies situations that require the Online Assistant.
