If the pass still will not display, use an airport kiosk where available or ask a Southwest ticket-counter agent to retrieve and print it. Some travelers must use the counter rather than a kiosk.
You need a boarding pass or an accepted security document to pass through TSA, and you need an actual boarding pass to board the aircraft. Start the recovery process immediately because Southwest’s check-in and gate deadlines are strict.

Recover the pass in the fastest order
1. Retrieve the reservation again online
Open the Southwest app or the mobile website and choose the check-in or retrieve-reservation option. Enter the confirmation number and one traveler’s first and last name. Southwest’s desktop check-in process uses those details to locate the booking. Once the reservation loads, complete check-in if it has not already been completed, then display the boarding pass.
If the app is frozen, switch to the mobile website, or vice versa. Confirm that the name matches the reservation exactly, including any hyphen or spacing. A poor connection can prevent the pass image from loading even though the booking is intact, so try a reliable Wi-Fi or cellular connection and reload the reservation.

2. Open a pass saved in your phone wallet
If you previously added the pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, open the wallet directly instead of relying on the Southwest app. A wallet copy can remain available when the airline app has signed out or the airport connection is congested. Southwest recommends wallet storage for easier access during travel.
Check that the saved pass belongs to the current flight and traveler. Wallet storage does not create eligibility for passengers who were not issued a mobile boarding pass in the first place.
3. Use a Southwest self-service kiosk
At an airport with Southwest kiosks, select the option to retrieve or print a boarding pass. Southwest says a kiosk may locate the reservation using any of these credentials:

- A major credit card bearing the traveler’s name
Follow the on-screen prompts, verify the itinerary and passenger name, and take the printed pass before leaving the kiosk. Kiosk availability and capabilities vary by airport. If the machine cannot find the reservation, do not keep retrying while the clock runs down; go to the ticket counter.

4. Go to the Southwest ticket counter when the kiosk is not appropriate
Ask a Southwest agent to retrieve the booking and issue the boarding pass. Southwest specifically directs unaccompanied minors and customers traveling on group reservations to the counter. Kiosk functions may also be unavailable for some partner itineraries, and an agent can determine the correct handling.
Bring the confirmation number if you have it, a government-issued identification document, and any travel document associated with the itinerary. If another person made the booking, ask that person to send the confirmation number while you wait, but do not delay approaching the counter.
5. Treat a security document as temporary access, not a boarding pass
In certain situations Southwest may issue a security document that lets you pass through TSA to the departure gate. Southwest’s guidance is explicit: “To pass through security, you must retrieve your boarding pass or security document either online or at the airport.” It separately states: “To board the plane, you’ll need to obtain your boarding pass at the airport.”

Therefore, if an agent gives you a security document, proceed through security as directed but obtain the boarding pass at the airport before boarding. A security document by itself is not the final boarding credential.

Know the Southwest deadlines before you leave for the airport
These times come from Southwest’s current online check-in guidance and are measured against the flight’s original scheduled departure time:

| Domestic check-in cutoff | 30 minutes before departure | Missing the cutoff can result in rebooking on the next available flight. |
| International check-in cutoff | 60 minutes before departure | Complete check-in and document processing before this deadline. |
| Aruba check-in cutoff | 75 minutes before departure | Aruba uses a longer cutoff than Southwest’s general international rule. |
| Gate-area requirement | At least 10 minutes before departure | All passengers must have their boarding passes and be in the gate area; otherwise the reservation may be canceled. |
These are operating cutoffs, not suggestions. Airport lines, security screening, baggage drop and transportation time are separate risks, so reaching a kiosk shortly before a cutoff may still leave too little time to complete the process.
Why a mobile boarding pass may not appear
Southwest generates a mobile pass through its app or mobile website after check-in, but not every traveler or itinerary qualifies. The airline identifies the following categories as ineligible for mobile boarding passes in some or all circumstances:

- Unaccompanied minors
- Certain international itineraries
- Partner reservations
- Military and government fares
Eligibility can depend on the itinerary details. An absent mobile pass is not necessarily an error; it may mean Southwest requires an airport-issued document. Use a kiosk when permitted or go directly to the counter when your passenger type or fare falls into one of the listed categories.

Which airport channel should you use?

The Contract of Carriage lists kiosks, Skycap podiums, ticket counters and departure gate podiums as possible boarding-pass channels, subject to availability. The practical sequence is still digital retrieval first, then kiosk, then the ticket counter unless an employee sends you elsewhere.

The confirmation number is missing
Search the booking email, text message or the account used to purchase the ticket. If another traveler booked the trip, contact that person while heading to the airport. At a kiosk, try the Rapid Rewards number, passport or a major credit card with the traveler’s name if one of those options applies. A Southwest agent can help when the automated options do not locate the booking.
The app shows the trip but not the pass
Open the check-in flow again rather than only viewing the trip itinerary. Switch between the app and mobile site, sign in again, and verify that check-in is complete. If the itinerary is in a category excluded from mobile passes, proceed to the airport counter instead of repeatedly refreshing.
The kiosk rejects the reservation
Check that you selected the correct airport and passenger, then try one of the other accepted retrieval methods. If the reservation still does not appear, take the confirmation information and identification to a Southwest agent. Do not assume a second kiosk will solve a partner-itinerary or passenger-type restriction.

The phone battery is nearly dead
Use a printed pass from a kiosk or counter whenever possible. Some airports list charging stations, but their presence and location are airport-specific. A portable power bank can keep a phone usable for a mobile pass, yet it cannot restore a missing booking or replace an airport-issued document.
You are already at TSA without the pass
Stop before entering the checkpoint and retrieve the boarding pass or security document online or at the airport. TSA access requires one of those accepted documents. If Southwest issued a security document, follow the instructions to the gate and obtain the separate boarding pass required for boarding.
Prepare before leaving for the airport
- Save the confirmation number in an offline note or password manager.
- Check in when the window opens, 24 hours before the original scheduled departure.
- Add an eligible mobile pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
- Carry the identification and travel documents required for the itinerary.
- Allow time for the counter, kiosk, baggage and security lines, not just the flight’s departure time.
- Ask a Southwest employee immediately if your reservation is a group booking, an unaccompanied-minor trip, a partner itinerary or another case that may require the counter.
What to do if the deadline is approaching
If you are still before the applicable check-in cutoff, go straight to the fastest available Southwest channel: retrieve the pass online if possible; otherwise use a kiosk; otherwise join the ticket-counter line and tell an employee that the cutoff is approaching. After check-in, reach the gate area no later than 10 minutes before scheduled departure with the boarding pass in hand.

If the domestic, international or Aruba cutoff has passed, Southwest’s online guidance warns that you may be rebooked on the next available flight. Speak with a Southwest agent rather than assuming the original reservation can still be used.
