If your WARDOGS class XP increases but your overall Wardog level stays at 53 or 54, first determine whether the game has actually stopped saving progress or whether the overall-level display is waiting for a class-level increase. A player in the official support discussion reported that the overall level rose when any class leveled, but that explanation is not an official mechanics guide.
Check each class track, restart after updates, record exactly what happened, and report a persistent class-level stall through the WARDOGS Steam Community “Report a Problem” area. Team17 Support says these reports were passed to the development team. Do not use unintended XP exploits: Update 0.1.2 warns that exploit abuse can reset cash and progression and can result in a permanent ban.

First identify which progression track is stuck
WARDOGS has more than one progression view. A match can award experience to a class without producing an immediately obvious change in the overall Wardog level. Before treating the problem as a failed save, compare the level and XP movement for every class you used with the overall level shown in the profile or post-match screens.

The first distinction matters because the commonly described symptom—“stuck at level 54” while class categories continue gaining experience—does not by itself prove that the overall value should change after every match. The player explanation about class-level thresholds is useful as a diagnostic clue, not as a guaranteed description of the current implementation.

A safe troubleshooting sequence
1. Record a baseline before playing another match
Write down the overall Wardog level, every class level that is relevant to the match, and the visible XP values or bars. Note the date, approximate time, game version shown by Steam, server type, and whether the previous session ended normally. A screenshot of the profile and post-match result is more useful than a general statement that XP was lost.
- Record the level that appears frozen, such as 53 or 54.
- List the class tracks that gained XP and those that did not.
- Note whether the match was on an Official server or another server type.
- Write down when the problem began and whether it started immediately after an update.
- Keep the exact wording of any error, disconnect or maintenance message.
This is practical evidence for troubleshooting, not a claim that Team17 requires a particular form. It prevents several different symptoms from being combined into one report.
2. Check class-level changes after a completed match
Finish a normal match, allow the post-match accounting to complete, and inspect the individual class tracks before checking the overall number. Compare those values with your baseline. If a class level advanced, the unchanged overall number may reflect the way the game awards overall progression rather than a failed save. The support discussion contains a player report of this behavior, but no official mechanics reference confirms the rule or its thresholds.

Record which class was active and whether other classes behaved differently. Do not repeatedly abandon matches solely to force an update; that can make the event harder to describe and may create unrelated disconnect or completion issues.
3. Restart after updates or scheduled maintenance
WARDOGS is an Early Access game, so its progression systems and client behavior can change between updates. After Steam downloads a patch, close the game completely and launch it again. If Steam still shows an update pending, let it finish before testing progression. An earlier official update process warned that players might need to restart to receive a client update; that instruction is general update handling, not a confirmed fix for the stuck-level reports.

Also check the current official announcement or patch channel for maintenance, server incidents or a changed progression rule. Do not infer that a new version fixed this particular problem merely because the version number changed.
4. Test once on an Official server, if practical
Some players reporting stalled progression said they had already tested Official servers, and their reports still described class XP continuing while the overall level appeared stuck. That means an Official-server test can add useful context, but it is not a proven remedy.

If you normally use another server type, run one ordinary, completed test on an Official server after confirming the client is current. Compare the same class and overall values with your baseline. Include the result in your report either way. Avoid changing several variables at once—such as switching server, class and account settings in the same session—because that makes the comparison less useful.
5. Reproduce the symptom without exploit methods
Use ordinary gameplay and a completed match to see whether the result repeats. Do not seek a fast XP route, manipulate matchmaking or repeat an unintended action simply to generate more data. The current patch specifically addresses cash and XP exploits, and using one can put the account at greater risk while obscuring the original bug.
6. Report a persistent class-level stall
When a class track itself refuses to advance after a current-client restart and a normal completed match, report it in the WARDOGS Steam Community “Report a Problem” discussion area. Team17 Support replied to the cited progression thread on September 20 and September 26, 2026, saying the reports had been passed to the team. The support response included: “I can mention that there is already a team checking this.”

Make the report easy to act on. Include:
- Your affected overall and class levels, with screenshots from before and after a match.
- Which classes gained XP, which did not, and whether the overall number changed.
- The approximate date and match when the issue began.
- Your server type, including whether you tested an Official server.
- The client version and whether Steam downloaded an update immediately before testing.
- Any disconnect, maintenance or save-related message.
- Whether restarting changed the displayed values.
Describe the symptom precisely rather than claiming that every player is affected. The available discussion consists of individual player reports, not a prevalence study, so it cannot establish how common the problem is.

BULKHEAD’s official “WARDOGS | Update 0.1.2 (Minor Patch)” announcement was posted on September 29, 2026. It covers anti-exploit measures and other gameplay issues. The cited notes do not announce a fix for the specific report in which class XP continues while the overall Wardog level appears stuck.
Team17 Support’s replies in the progression discussion say the reports were sent to the team for investigation. They do not identify a root cause, promise a restoration of missing XP, or provide a date for a fix. Until an official note explicitly addresses this symptom, regard the issue as unresolved rather than assuming a patch silently repaired it.
WARDOGS is listed on Steam as an Early Access title. Its progression and other systems are still evolving, so instructions and behavior can change. Season 02 was announced for October 15, 2026. Because that date is now past the announcement’s stated schedule, check the newest official Season 02 and patch notes for the build you are actually running; do not rely on the September 29 notes alone.
Do not use XP exploits as a workaround
Trying to force a level increase through a repeatable unintended method can create a much larger account problem than a display stall. The Update 0.1.2 announcement states: “We have zero tolerance for economy abuse and players now risk being permanently banned without warning if caught abusing repeatable unintended exploits.” The same announcement says caught players may have cash and progression reset.

That warning changes the risk calculation:
- Do not recommend or follow a method advertised as an exploit, duplication, AFK farm or repeatable unintended XP gain.
- Do not continue testing a suspicious method after it appears to work.
- If you already used one, stop and report the legitimate progression symptom without presenting the exploit as a solution.
- Do not assume that a temporary level increase proves the account is safe or that the method is accepted.
Normal play, accurate evidence and an official report are the safer route while the team investigates.

Several tempting repairs are not supported by the official material available for this issue:
- Deleting local files: No reviewed official source says this restores Wardog XP. Deleting files can remove useful local evidence and may introduce a separate configuration problem.
- Resetting the account: There is no documented self-service reset that recovers a missing progression track. Do not ask for or perform a reset merely because the overall number is unchanged.
- Third-party repair or progression tools: These are not an approved troubleshooting step and can create security, account or ban risks.
- Assuming Steam file verification restores XP: One player reported that verifying files did not correct the stuck level. File verification may address damaged installation files in some circumstances, but it is not established as a progression-recovery method here.
- Repeating matches indefinitely: More matches do not prove a save failure if the class-level threshold has not been reached, and uncontrolled testing produces poor evidence.
If you choose to verify the installation for a separate reason, treat the result as diagnostic information and include it in a support report—not as a guaranteed way to restore account progression.
How to interpret common outcomes
Class XP rises and the overall level eventually changes
This pattern is consistent with the player-reported explanation that the overall value moves when a class levels. Keep monitoring the class tracks and use the current patch notes for any changes to progression rules.

Capture the values and report the pattern, especially if a class clearly crossed a level boundary. Do not state that the account is corrupted unless support confirms that diagnosis; the available evidence establishes a reportable symptom, not a universal cause.
No class track gains XP
Confirm the match completed, restart the updated client, perform one controlled test and report the affected class and server. This is the clearest case for escalation because both class and overall progression appear affected.
The value changes in-session but reverts after relaunch
Record the exact sequence and avoid destructive local changes. Tell support which values were visible before closing the game and after relaunching. That distinction helps separate a display refresh problem from a persistence problem.
What to expect while waiting for an official answer
Support acknowledgment means the report is being investigated; it is not a confirmation that your account will be individually repaired or that a particular workaround is safe. Keep your screenshots and notes, watch official WARDOGS announcements for a patch that explicitly mentions progression, and retest only with ordinary gameplay after installing a new client version.
