Current item guides describe three possible unlock routes: claim it from the Frozen Trail Reward Pass, research it at the Outpost Research Station, or keep searching random loot. No source establishes a fixed spawn, guaranteed container, exact percentage, or reliable number of runs.
Use the Reward Pass or Research Station first when available. Treat container farming as a probability-based fallback, not a guaranteed progression path, and verify every level, cost and recipe in your current game build because seasonal progression and loot tables can change.

First, check whether you already learned the blueprint
Open your crafting or blueprint interface and look for the Grappling Hook entry before spending more raids on it. The general blueprint reference for ARC Raiders says learned blueprints are marked and cannot be consumed again. A blueprint that has already been learned will not appear as a new pickup, so an apparently missing drop may simply be a duplicate that the game no longer presents as an unlock.
If the entry is learned, move directly to the Utility Station and check the current recipe. If it is not learned, follow the progression checks below in order.

The three current ways to unlock the Grappling Hook Blueprint
1. Claim the Frozen Trail Reward Pass reward
Current item guides list the Grappling Hook Blueprint as a Frozen Trail Reward Pass reward at level 12. Open the live pass screen and inspect the reward track rather than relying on an old screenshot or a remembered tier. A second guide corroborates the pass route but its image description appears inconsistent with the written level-12 description. That conflict is a reason to trust the reward shown in your game, not evidence that the blueprint is guaranteed at one permanent tier across every version.
If the reward is displayed and you have reached its tier, claim it through the pass interface, then return to the blueprint list to confirm that it is learned. If the pass is from an earlier season, unavailable on your account, or no longer shows the item, use the Research Station check instead.
2. Research it at the Outpost Research Station
The item-specific guide describes the Outpost Research Station as a direct alternative to waiting for loot. Its listed research requirement is 2,000 Research Points and 10 Rope. Those are in-game costs reported by the guide, not a published drop statistic, and they should be checked against the values shown by your current station UI.

Travel to the Outpost, open the Research Station, and search for Grappling Hook. If the study option is present, confirm that you have the displayed resources and start the research. A station requirement can depend on account progression or a live-version change, so the absence of the option does not prove that the blueprint has a hidden world spawn; it may indicate that your station or progression has not unlocked the route yet.
3. Continue scavenging for a random drop
The third route is ordinary raid loot. The item guide names Weapon Cases and Raider Caches as containers worth opening and says that Night Raid or Electromagnetic Storm conditions provide better odds. “Better odds” is a farming tip, not a promise. No source gives a percentage, a guaranteed container, a guaranteed map, or a number of attempts after which the blueprint must appear.

How to farm loot without chasing a nonexistent fixed spawn
Prioritize the named containers
When you choose the loot route, spend your search time on Weapon Cases and Raider Caches rather than assuming every object has the same value. The item-specific guidance identifies those containers, but it does not state that either one always contains the Grappling Hook Blueprint. Open them whenever the route is safe and practical, then extract if the raid’s risk no longer justifies another search.

Use favorable raid conditions when they appear
Night Raid and Electromagnetic Storm are reported to improve the odds for this blueprint. The wording matters: these conditions affect probability, not certainty. Do not abandon a viable run solely because the preferred condition is absent, and do not assume that one favorable raid guarantees a blueprint.

Do not infer a map-wide loot conversion
Embark’s official Frozen Trail update explanation says that zones do not change their inherent loot type: a Residential loot area remains Residential, although one raid may yield more value and another less. That means a favorable event should not be interpreted as a permanent conversion of a zone into Grappling Hook loot. Search the relevant containers inside the zone types you are already running, rather than expecting a whole map to become a guaranteed blueprint farm.
Consider the wider blueprint pool carefully
The community-maintained ARC Raiders Wiki says blueprints can come from scavenging, Trials, quests and projects. It also notes that ARC Surveyors can drop blueprints and that scavenging blueprints may appear as Trial rewards. Those statements describe general blueprint systems, not a confirmed Grappling Hook source. The wiki warns that some recorded spawn information is unconfirmed and that Surveyor blueprint drops appear random. Do not claim that a particular Surveyor, Trial, project or container guarantees this specific blueprint unless your current game explicitly says so.

Why you cannot calculate a drop deadline
Embark’s official 1.2.0 patch notes state: “Adjusted blueprint drop rates from Raider Containers.” The note confirms that the table has been changed historically, but it does not publish the current rate, the direction of the change, or the size of the adjustment. Consequently, any guide offering an exact percentage, a guaranteed number of raids, or a countdown to the drop is going beyond the established information.
Random drops can also vary between players without indicating a bug. One player may find a blueprint quickly while another opens many relevant containers without seeing it. That difference is compatible with an undisclosed loot probability. Keep a personal record if it helps you decide when to stop farming, but treat the record as your experience, not an official estimate.

- Confirm the blueprint is not already learned. Check the blueprint or crafting screen for its learned status before opening more containers.
- Inspect the current Frozen Trail Reward Pass. Open the live pass, locate the Grappling Hook entry and note the tier actually displayed. Current guides report level 12, but seasonal reward tracks can change and one guide’s image description conflicts with its text.
- Claim an available pass reward. If the displayed tier is reached and claimable, collect it, then verify the learned status in your blueprint list.
- Check the Outpost Research Station. Search for Grappling Hook and read the station’s current requirement. The item guide lists 2,000 Research Points and 10 Rope; use the in-game values if they differ.
- Farm the right loot only if progression routes are unavailable. Search Weapon Cases and Raider Caches, favor Night Raid or Electromagnetic Storm when practical, and avoid treating any run count as a guarantee.
- Record a missing guaranteed reward. If the pass shows a claimable Grappling Hook reward or the station offers a completed research action but your account does not receive the blueprint, capture screenshots of the current pass or station state and contact official ARC Raiders support.
The available sources do not confirm a Grappling Hook-specific bug or a special workaround. Restarting, changing maps or repeating a particular number of raids should not be presented as a proven fix.
What you need after learning the blueprint
Learning the blueprint only unlocks the recipe; it does not create a Grappling Hook automatically. The item-specific guide lists Utility Station Level 1 as the required crafting station and the following materials:

The same guide lists 2,000 Research Points and 10 Rope for the Research Station unlock. Keep the research cost separate from the crafting recipe: spending the research requirement unlocks knowledge, while the Utility Station materials are consumed when you make the item. Verify both sets of values in the current build before committing resources.
How the Grappling Hook fits the Frozen Trail update
Embark describes the Grappling Hook as a distinct mobility gadget rather than a simple upgrade to the Snap Hook. In the official update text, the ARC Raiders Team writes: “While the Snap Hook has previously been a ‘general use’ mobility gadget, with the introduction of the Grappling Hook, we felt the need to give them their own identity outside of a ‘linear upgrade’ path.” This explains the gadgets’ design roles; it does not indicate where the blueprint drops or how often it appears.

That distinction is useful when deciding whether to keep farming. The blueprint is a progression and crafting objective, not evidence that the Snap Hook has been replaced or that every mobility-related activity should award the new item.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming a fixed world spawn: current item guidance says there is no fixed spawn and no guaranteed location.
- Treating a container tip as a guarantee: Weapon Cases and Raider Caches are recommended search targets, not confirmed guaranteed sources.
- Using an old pass screenshot: the live Reward Pass is authoritative when its tier differs from older guide text or imagery.
- Confusing general blueprint sources with this blueprint: Trials, quests, projects and ARC Surveyors are part of the wider blueprint system, but no cited source guarantees the Grappling Hook Blueprint from any one of them.
- Expecting an official percentage: the 1.2.0 notes document an adjustment to Raider Container rates without publishing a current number.
- Stopping after unlock: you still need a Level 1 Utility Station and the listed materials to craft the Grappling Hook.
Bottom line
Check the live Frozen Trail Reward Pass and Outpost Research Station before farming. If neither route is available, search Weapon Cases and Raider Caches during Night Raid or Electromagnetic Storm when possible, but accept that the result is random. No established source provides a fixed spawn, exact odds or guaranteed run count. Once learned, craft it at a Level 1 Utility Station with 2 Rope, 1 Cable Stripper and 1 Mechanical Component, verifying those values against your current game version.
