The five mandatory campaign locks do not share one universal orientation. Set each half of the Configuration independently, cycle its shape and rotation, and compare the combined outline with the slot’s silhouette. For statue locks, return the required hand or tongue before trying to finish the alignment. Some encounters use the Configuration to operate scenery rather than simply match a shape.
The available puzzle references document the locations and reported arrangements, but they do not confirm a current full-game patch that fixes every failure to register. Treat a persistent non-registering input as a possible software issue, not proof that one of the demo-era solutions applies to your copy.

How the Genesis Configuration lock works
The Genesis Configuration is a two-part shape-and-rotation puzzle. Each half of the box can be changed separately. Your goal is not merely to select a familiar-looking symbol: the two configured halves must form the complete outline shown by the lock’s cut-out silhouette.
- Place your attention on one half of the Configuration.
- Cycle through its available shapes.
- Rotate that half until its edges and openings could join the other half.
- Repeat the process for the second half.
- Compare the combined outside contour with the slot, not just the internal pattern.
A correct-looking individual half can still be wrong if its rotation prevents the pair from matching the complete recess. The game’s campaign locks are location-specific, so copying the orientation from an earlier room is not a reliable shortcut.

Find the lock you are actually solving
The campaign guide identifies five mandatory Genesis Configuration locks. Use the room and objective to select the relevant solution instead of trying to apply one arrangement everywhere.
| Lock location | Story or prerequisite context | Guide-reported configuration clue | Interaction type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunny’s pillar | Mandatory campaign gate | One side is a square rotated like a diamond; the other uses a parallel-bridge arrangement. | Shape and rotation match |
| Hand statue | Statue gate; the required hand must be returned first. | Matching boulder-like shapes in different orientations. | Shape and rotation match |
| Head statue | Mandatory statue gate | One side uses a border-like configuration; align the complete silhouette. | Shape and rotation match |
| Tongue statue | Statue gate; the required tongue must be returned first. | Use the location-specific silhouette rather than another statue’s setting. | Shape and rotation match |
| Factory shrine | Mandatory campaign gate | One side uses a border-like configuration; match both halves to the shrine’s outline. | Shape and rotation match |
The descriptions above come from a campaign solution guide and are orientation clues, not interchangeable codes. If a visual edge, notch or opening does not line up with the recess, rotate the affected half again rather than assuming the lock is broken.
Work through a non-completing puzzle step by step
1. Confirm the objective and location
Stop and identify the exact room, landmark or statue. The five mandatory locks have different configurations. A solution for Sunny’s pillar, for example, should not be expected to open the Head statue or Factory shrine.

Statue encounters can remain inactive until their missing piece has been restored. If you are at the Hand statue, verify that the hand has been returned. At the Tongue statue, verify that the tongue has been returned. The available material does not establish a universal inventory requirement for every other lock, so use the current objective as your authority.

3. Inspect both halves, not only the half that looks wrong
Cycle the first half through its shapes and rotations, then do the same for the second. A mismatch may be caused by the partner half being turned incorrectly. Work from a distinctive feature such as a straight border, a diamond point, a bridge-like bar or a rounded boulder-like edge.
4. Match the outside silhouette
Hold the combined outline against the cut-out slot. The correct result should account for the full perimeter. Internal lines can look convincing even when an exterior corner, gap or protrusion is in the wrong place.
5. Test the mechanism after the visual fit
Once both halves appear to match, activate the lock and watch for the mechanism to move. If nothing happens, check whether the encounter is an environmental puzzle rather than a simple gate. Some sequences require the Configuration to operate a wheel or alter the route through a repeating room.
Location-specific guidance
Sunny’s pillar
The campaign guide describes Sunny’s pillar with a square rotated into a diamond on one side and a parallel-bridge arrangement on the other. Treat those as separate half-configurations. Set the diamond-like square first, then rotate the bridge-like half until the two pieces create the pillar’s complete slot silhouette. Do not stop when each half resembles the description independently; the joining edges must also meet.

Hand statue
The Hand statue uses matching boulder-like forms in different orientations. “Matching” refers to the family of shapes, not necessarily identical rotations. Turn each boulder-like half until the combined outline follows the statue lock. If the required hand has not been returned, finish that objective before spending time on rotations; the gate may not respond to a correct visual arrangement until its prerequisite is complete.
Head statue
The Head statue is reported as using a border-like configuration on one side. Start with the side that forms the most obvious frame or rim, then rotate the other half to complete the interior and outer boundary. Because the guide’s description is visual rather than a text code, use the recess itself as the final check. A border that is on the wrong side or rotated 90 degrees can make the whole box appear nearly correct without completing.
Tongue statue
The Tongue statue is another prerequisite-sensitive gate. Return the missing tongue before judging whether the Configuration has failed. Afterward, solve it as its own location-specific silhouette; do not copy the Hand statue’s boulder arrangement. If the interaction prompt remains unavailable, confirm that the current objective has advanced to the statue lock rather than an earlier retrieval step.

Factory shrine
The Factory shrine also includes a border-like arrangement on one side. Use the shrine’s cut-out as the reference for the complete perimeter and rotate the partner half until the edges close correctly. The border clue identifies one side only; it is not a complete instruction to leave the other half in its default orientation.

When the Configuration controls the environment
Wheel-controlled walkway
One reported sequence uses the Configuration to rotate a wheel and realign a walkway. In that situation, matching a static slot is only part of the task. Place the Configuration into the mechanism, operate it, and observe whether the wheel changes the path. If the walkway still does not line up, verify that you are using the box on the wheel mechanism rather than searching for another ordinary lock.
Repeating-room sequence
In a repeating-room puzzle described by an unofficial reference, the recommended action is to turn around and change the setting rather than continuing forward through identical rooms. This advice comes from pre-release demonstrations, so it should be treated as a sequence-specific tip, not proof that every looping-room failure in the released game has the same cause.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check when an input does not register
- Wrong lock: Reconfirm the landmark. The five campaign configurations are not universal.
- Missing prerequisite: At a statue, verify that the hand or tongue has been returned and that the story objective has advanced.
- Half configured, not fully configured: Recheck both halves and their rotations. One correct half does not complete the box.
- Silhouette mismatch: Compare the exterior contour, including corners, gaps and protrusions, instead of relying on a central motif.
- Environmental interaction: Determine whether the encounter expects you to rotate a wheel, realign a walkway or turn around in a repeating-room sequence.
- Possible registration problem: If the correct location, prerequisite and silhouette all check out but the mechanism never reacts, the available evidence does not establish whether the cause is a known bug, an unmet hidden condition or an incorrect orientation.
A player discussion includes an anecdotal report of a bridge interaction that would not register. That report does not establish how common the problem is, which version caused it or whether the issue is specifically a Genesis Configuration defect. Use it as a warning that an interaction can fail to register, not as a confirmed diagnosis.
What is known about patches and full-game fixes
The unofficial Hellraiser: Revival puzzle reference covers pre-release demonstrations. It says demo patches corrected incorrect tutorial hints and some movement softlocks. Those notes do not demonstrate that a patch fixed Genesis Configuration locks in the full campaign.
Best Value
As of the information checked on October 13, 2026, no verified current full-game fix or official troubleshooting instruction was established for a Genesis Configuration puzzle that will not complete. In practical terms, do not present a demo patch note as a guarantee for the released game, and do not assume that reinstalling, restarting a save or changing hardware is a confirmed cure. If you report a problem, record the lock’s location, the prerequisite state, the two selected half-configurations and the game version so that a support team or later patch note can distinguish a puzzle mistake from a software failure.
Common mistakes that look like a broken puzzle
Reusing a previous solution
The most common conceptual error is treating the Configuration as one universal key. Each mandatory lock has its own arrangement. Return to the location table and start from the current silhouette.
Ignoring a statue objective
A correct shape cannot substitute for a missing story item. At the Hand and Tongue statues, finish the associated retrieval objective first.

Players often compare the interior mark and overlook an outside corner or opening. The lock is solved by the complete combined outline.
Continuing forward in a loop
In the pre-release repeating-room example, turning around changes the setting. Walking forward repeatedly is therefore not a reliable test of whether the Configuration itself is wrong.
A concise recovery checklist
- Write down the exact lock: Sunny’s pillar, Hand statue, Head statue, Tongue statue or Factory shrine.
- Confirm the relevant hand or tongue has been returned when the location requires it.
- Configure both halves independently, cycling shape and rotation.
- Compare the complete outside silhouette with the slot.
- Check whether the box is meant to operate a wheel or alter an environmental route.
- At a repeating-room sequence, try the reported turn-around action instead of walking forward again.
- If every condition is satisfied and no response occurs, classify the failure as unconfirmed rather than applying a demo patch note as a guaranteed fix.
The reliable principle is simple: identify the location, satisfy its prerequisite, and fit both halves to that location’s silhouette. The documented material supports those steps, while current full-game bug status remains unverified.
