If Sony has denied your PS5 warranty claim, ask for the denial reason and the exact warranty term Sony relied on in writing. Then compare that explanation with the warranty for the country where you bought the console and the evidence you have. A Sony warranty denial does not necessarily decide whether you have a separate claim against the retailer under local consumer law.
Start by asking Sony to explain the denial
Contact Sony support and request a written explanation that identifies:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- the specific reason Sony denied service;
- the warranty clause or exclusion it applied;
- any inspection finding, photograph or other evidence behind that finding; and
- whether Sony will review the case, plus a case or reference number.
Sony’s published US and Canada warranty terms describe coverage and service conditions, but do not promise a formal appeal process. A supervisor or case review is a reasonable request, not a guaranteed escalation right or a promise of a different result.

Sony’s US and Canada warranty terms require valid dated proof of purchase for warranty service. Keep the original records and send copies unless Sony specifically needs the original.
Check the right warranty and the reason Sony gave
Warranty terms depend on where the PS5 was bought. Check the country-specific Sony terms, purchase date, purchaser eligibility and the exact exclusion in the denial. Do not assume that a US or Canadian warranty clause applies elsewhere.
If the console was bought in the United States or Canada
Sony’s published US and Canada PS5 warranty terms cover the original purchaser for material defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the original purchase date, and the policy is valid only in those countries. It lists exclusions that include specified misuse or accidental damage, alteration or removal of the serial number, certain unauthorized service or opening, and some damage caused by unlicensed peripherals. The policy also requires dated proof of purchase. Those are the terms of this regional policy, not universal Sony warranty language.
If the console was bought in the European Economic Area
Sony’s EEA commercial guarantee is additional to statutory consumer rights. The published guarantee describes a one-year manufacturer period in the listed territories, subject to its terms and proof of purchase. A denial under that commercial guarantee does not, by itself, resolve a separate legal-guarantee claim against the seller.

If Sony disputes what happened to the console
Respond to the factual basis of the finding. If Sony cites impact or liquid damage, provide relevant dated images or repair evidence. If the dispute concerns the purchase date or who bought the console, provide the invoice and seller record. If Sony cites unauthorized repair or modification, ask what specific evidence supports that conclusion and whether Sony says it caused the fault being claimed. An exclusion should be assessed against the applicable terms and local law; do not assume it automatically applies or is automatically invalid.
Ask for a review without risking your evidence
Once you have the explanation and records, send Sony one concise, organized response. State what finding you dispute, attach the evidence relevant to that point, and ask for a written final position. You can request a supervisor or case review, but the published material does not establish a guaranteed escalation ladder or that escalation will change the outcome.
Before opening the console or sending it to a third-party repairer, check the precise denial basis, the applicable warranty and local law. Sony’s US and Canada terms exclude certain damage connected to unauthorized service or opening; that does not mean every third-party repair voids every warranty worldwide. A repair can also make it harder to establish the original condition or cause of the fault.

Consider a separate claim against the seller
The manufacturer warranty and legal rights against the seller are different routes. If Sony refuses its commercial warranty service, contact the retailer if local law makes the seller responsible for non-conforming goods. Keep the same purchase and fault records, and explain the remedy you are seeking.
For EU consumers, Sony’s legal-guarantee information directs consumers to report non-conformity to the seller. Remedies may include free repair or replacement, and in some cases a price reduction or reimbursement. The European Commission describes a two-year minimum legal guarantee across the EU, subject to national implementation and the facts of the case. This is a seller/statutory route, not a universal two-year Sony manufacturer warranty.
Find the right local consumer guidance
Your next steps and deadlines depend on where you live, where you bought the PS5, the purchase date and the denial reason. Avoid applying one country’s rules to another.
