EA Community Manager EA_Aljo states that “when you disconnect from a match, a loss is automatically given.” There is no published promise that EA will restore a result already recorded this way. Your best response is to check EA service status first, document the connection symptoms, work through low-risk network fixes, and contact EA Support if the result still appears incorrect.
The steps below apply chiefly to FC 26 Champions and Ultimate Team connection problems. A single forum report does not prove that every disconnect has the same cause, so use the connection indicators and service checks to separate an EA-side incident from a problem on your home network.

Why a Champions win can appear as a loss
EA’s match system can treat a disconnection as a forfeited result even when the disconnection occurs after you believe the game is over. In an EA Forums discussion about Ultimate Champions, Community Manager EA_Aljo wrote that a player who disconnects “automatically” receives a loss. That statement explains the result being seen by some players; it does not establish why a particular match disconnected or guarantee that an already-recorded loss can be changed.

First establish whether EA is reporting a wider incident, then check the quality of your own connection. Keep screenshots or notes of the match time, platform, error wording, and any ping, packet-loss, or jitter warnings. Those details give Support something more useful than a general report that the game “didn’t count.”

1. Check EA service status before changing your network
EA Help says the message “Connecting to Ultimate Team is not possible at the moment” can result from a server problem and directs players to the FC server-status resource and official EA channels for outage information. Open the current FC server-status page and EA’s official outage communications before rebooting equipment or changing wireless settings.
What a service incident means for your next step
- EA reports an outage or maintenance: wait for the service to recover. Repeatedly launching Champions during an incident can create more failed sessions, but local changes cannot repair an EA data-center problem.
- No incident is listed: continue with the connection checks below. Status pages can lag behind a new problem, so record the time and exact error even when the page appears normal.
- Only your account or console is affected: treat the issue as a local connection, platform, or account-session problem until Support identifies otherwise.
EA’s FC 26 support hub also provides the Connection Quality Report and support resources. Use that report when you need to show a pattern rather than relying on memory of one match.
2. Use Connection Quality data to describe the failure
EA explains that online match data travels between your home network and EA game data centers. Delays or interruptions can produce lag, visual stuttering, or a complete disconnection. Its connection guidance groups the useful measurements into three metrics:

Enable or review the in-game Connection Monitoring display using the options EA documents for FC. Also check the Connection Quality Report after a session. Note whether the warning was high ping, packet loss, jitter, or a combination. These measurements help you and Support characterize what happened; they do not by themselves prove why one result was lost.

3. Restart the game, modem, and router correctly
EA’s first-line procedure is deliberately simple because it clears a stuck game session and refreshes the path to the service without changing permanent settings.
- Close EA SPORTS FC completely rather than leaving it suspended or in quick-resume mode.
- Restart the console or PC if the game repeatedly returns to the same connection error.
- Power off the router. If your modem and router are separate units, turn both off.
- Leave the equipment off for at least 30 seconds, the interval specified in EA’s troubleshooting guidance.
- Power the modem back on first, if you have separate devices, and wait for it to finish synchronising. Then power on the router and wait for its normal internet indicators.
- Launch the game and test a non-critical online session before using another Champions match.
This process can clear a temporary session or local networking fault. It cannot reverse a loss that the server has already stored and cannot repair an EA-wide outage.
4. Remove competing traffic while you play
Large downloads, cloud synchronisation, software updates, and HD or 4K streaming consume bandwidth and can add queueing delay or packet loss. EA recommends pausing downloads and stopping high-resolution streaming while playing. Ask other devices on the household network to avoid heavy transfers during Champions matches, at least while you determine whether congestion is part of the pattern.

- Pause game, operating-system, and cloud-storage downloads on every device you control.
- Stop HD/4K video streams and live broadcasts temporarily.
- Play one test session with only essential devices connected.
- Compare the Connection Monitoring indicators with those from a busy-network session.
If the indicators improve when competing traffic is removed, schedule large transfers outside your matches or use the router’s traffic-management features. Improvement under this test points to congestion, but it still does not prove that congestion caused every earlier loss.

5. Prefer Ethernet when Wi-Fi is inconsistent
EA says an Ethernet cable usually provides a more stable connection than Wi-Fi because it avoids wireless interference and fluctuating radio conditions. A wired connection is therefore a sensible diagnostic step when your console or PC is near the router or when Wi-Fi warnings appear repeatedly.
When a cable is practical
- Connect the console or PC directly to the router with an Ethernet cable for the next test session.
- Keep the same game, account, and match mode so the network change is the main variable.
- Check ping, packet loss, and jitter again rather than assuming the cable fixed the problem.
When you must stay on Wi-Fi
Compare the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands from the router’s wireless settings. The 5 GHz band can offer more capacity at short range, while 2.4 GHz generally reaches farther; walls, distance, and interference determine which is better in your home. If nearby networks crowd the same channel, EA suggests trying a less congested channel where your router supports that choice. Move the console or access point to reduce obstacles, and test again.
Ethernet is an aid, not a guarantee. It will not fix an EA service incident, an account or security restriction, an ISP outage, or a result that has already been registered as a loss.

6. Try advanced router checks carefully
Only move to these steps after the basic restart and traffic checks. Record the original settings so you can undo a change that makes the network worse.

Check router firmware
EA recommends checking the router manufacturer’s firmware instructions. Install updates only through the manufacturer’s documented process, and avoid interrupting power during an update. Firmware menus and update procedures differ by model, so do not apply instructions for a different router.
Temporarily disconnect a VPN
If a VPN is active on the console, PC, or network gateway, disconnect it for a controlled test. EA’s guidance is to test with the VPN disconnected when investigating connection problems; it is not a recommendation to use a VPN as a fix. Compare the same Connection Monitoring indicators with and without the VPN.
Use QoS if the router supports it
Quality-of-service controls can prioritise gaming traffic while other devices are busy. EA suggests configuring QoS to prioritise EA SPORTS FC traffic when the router offers that feature. Router implementations vary, so follow the manufacturer’s instructions, make one change at a time, and verify that video calls and other essential traffic still work.

7. Consider the security-limit possibility only as a case-specific explanation
In one FC 26 Champions forum discussion, EA Community Manager EA_Aljo said that a player who had played many matches over a short period might have hit security limits and might need to wait about 24 hours. The same reply suggested power-cycling the modem and router and hard-restarting the console if the player had not been playing many matches. The player later reported that play worked again but that the lost results remained losses.

This is a conditional possibility raised in one EA forum case, not a published universal rule. There is no stated timer that guarantees your account will be restored after 24 hours, and waiting does not promise that an automatic loss will be removed. Use the possibility to explain an unusual short-term block to Support, not as a reason to repeatedly abandon matches or change security settings.
8. Contact EA Support with a complete record
Escalate through EA’s FC 26 support resources when the issue continues after service checks, a clean restart, and a controlled connection test. Explain whether the match disconnected during play or after the final whistle, what result appeared afterward, and whether the game showed high ping, packet loss, or jitter.
Include these details
- Your platform and FC version, including that the affected mode was Champions or Ultimate Team.
- The date and approximate time, with your time zone, for each affected match.
- The exact disconnect or connection message.
- Whether EA’s server-status page showed an incident at that time.
- Connection Quality Report findings and any Connection Monitoring warning.
- Whether you tested after restarting the game, modem, and router; pausing downloads; and using Ethernet or another Wi-Fi band.
- Screenshots or video showing the result, error, or monitoring indicators, with personal information hidden where appropriate.
Ask Support to review the recorded match and account history. Phrase the request as an investigation rather than a demand for a guaranteed reversal: EA’s published guidance does not promise restoration of a loss automatically assigned after a disconnect.
What not to assume
- A win shown on your screen is always saved: a later disconnect can still result in an automatic loss under EA’s stated rule.
- A normal speed test clears your network: a general internet test may not reproduce the route, timing, or congestion involved in an EA match.
- One bad indicator identifies the culprit: ping, packet loss, and jitter describe quality, but none alone proves whether the EA service, ISP, Wi-Fi, router, or device caused the drop.
- A cable guarantees a fix: Ethernet usually improves stability over inconsistent Wi-Fi, but it cannot correct server-side failures or an already-recorded result.
- Every Champions disconnect is a security limit: the 24-hour possibility comes from one conditional forum reply, not a universal EA policy.
A repeatable pre-match checklist
- Check EA’s FC server-status resource and official outage channels.
- Confirm that no large downloads or HD/4K streams are using the connection.
- Use Ethernet when available; otherwise choose the more reliable Wi-Fi band and position.
- Close and relaunch FC, and restart networking equipment if the previous session failed.
- Enable the Connection Monitoring display and know where to view the Connection Quality Report.
- Record the time and indicators if a disconnect occurs.
- After repeated failures, stop risking Champions matches and contact EA Support with the record.
Following this order gives you the best chance of distinguishing a service incident from a local connection problem while avoiding unsupported promises about recovering a loss. It also produces the concrete evidence EA needs to assess a result that appears not to have counted.
