If Counter-Strike 2 reports input automation, first identify exactly what happened: a match kick, a match cancellation, or a VAC/game ban. Valve’s documented input-automation response is a kick from a match on Valve official servers, not automatically a VAC ban. Turn off keyboard features that automate movement, remove multi-action binds, restart the game, and retest with ordinary manual inputs.
The steps below follow Valve’s 19 August 2024 Counter-Strike 2 release notes and its “Side-stepping Skill” explanation. They also separate official-server enforcement from community-server rules and explain which reporting route applies to a cancelled match.

Identify the notice before changing anything
Save a screenshot or copy the exact wording of the message. Similar-looking notices have different meanings and different next steps.

Valve’s published material does not say that every input-automation kick becomes a ban. The event type, the server, and the input setup must be considered together.

What Valve’s August 2024 rule covers
In Counter-Strike 2 release notes dated 19 August 2024, Valve wrote: “Certain types of movement/shooting input automation such as hardware-assisted counter strafing will now be detected on Valve official servers, resulting in a kick from the match.” The same update says binds that combine more than one movement or attack action are ignored by default.
Valve’s accompanying “Side-stepping Skill” explanation warns: “If you have a keyboard that includes an input-automation feature (e.g., "Snap Tap Mode"), be sure to disable the feature before you join a match in order to avoid any interruption to your matches.” It also says players suspected of automating multiple player actions from a single game input may be kicked.
Examples that fit the documented rule
- Hardware-assisted counter-strafing that changes or prioritizes directional inputs automatically.
- Keyboard modes such as Snap Tap Mode that produce or favor multiple directional actions from one physical input.
- Binds that combine more than one movement or attack action.
These examples describe the kinds of automation Valve identified; they do not establish that an ordinary, fully manual key press is an error. The available Valve material provides no published false-positive rate and no complete list of normal mouse or keyboard actions that can trigger a detection.

Official servers and the separate non-Valve option
The release notes place the documented kick behavior on Valve official servers. Valve also described a separate option to enable counter-strafe input-automation detection for non-Valve servers. A community server can therefore have different settings, plugins, or enforcement. Verify where the match was hosted before applying conclusions from an official-server notice to a community match.
Disable keyboard automation before you play again
Turn off the feature in the device profile
- Open the keyboard’s configuration utility or onboard profile controls.
- Find movement or input-automation features. If the device offers Snap Tap Mode or a similarly named mode, switch it off.
- Check every profile that can activate automatically when CS2 starts. A profile stored in the keyboard can remain active even after the configuration utility is closed.
- Save or apply the change, then disconnect and reconnect the keyboard if the device requires that step.
Valve’s advice is to disable the automation before joining a match. If your utility has separate settings for analog movement, rapid-trigger behavior, directional prioritization, or simultaneous opposite-direction handling, leave those automation functions disabled while diagnosing the event. Do not assume that changing only the visible desktop profile changed the profile used in game.
Remove binds that combine actions
Review CS2’s keyboard and mouse bindings and remove any binding that causes one input to issue multiple movement or attack actions. Use one physical input for one in-game action while testing. Valve says multi-action movement or attack binds are ignored by default, so re-enabling a related protected option can make troubleshooting harder and can restore the pattern you are trying to eliminate.

Keep ordinary key reassignment separate from automation. Moving the jump action from one key to another is a single-action remap; a bind that fires several movement or attack commands from one press is the type of setup the August 2024 explanation addresses.

Close or disable device profiles, macros, scripts, and other utilities that transform one press into several game actions. The goal of this test is a clean, manual input path—not merely hiding a feature while another profile continues to apply it. If several utilities can control the same keyboard or mouse, inspect each one.
Retest with manual input
Valve has not published a formal diagnostic protocol. The following conservative sequence applies its stated rule while changing as little as possible:

- Record the original notice, approximate time, server type, and match identifier if one is shown.
- Disable the keyboard’s input-automation features and remove multi-action movement or attack binds.
- Save the device profile and restart the keyboard or mouse software. Restart CS2 so the game starts with the changed profile.
- Join a Valve official server only after confirming that the automation remains off.
- Play with ordinary, single-action movement and attack inputs. Do not use a macro, script, hardware-assisted counter-strafe mode, or a profile that prioritizes simultaneous directional inputs.
- If the issue does not recur, reintroduce changes one at a time only if you need to identify which setting caused the event. Leave each other setting unchanged so the result is interpretable.
- If the notice returns, capture the exact text and determine whether the event is a kick, cancellation, or ban before seeking help.
This retest can show whether the device configuration was involved, but it cannot prove that Valve’s detector made an error. It is a practical troubleshooting sequence based on Valve’s published rule, not a Valve-certified test.

Valve’s release notes provide a specific route for players who believe a match was incorrectly cancelled during the initial VacNet 3.0 testing. Save the match identifier, the exact notice, the date and approximate time, and the server context. Then email those match details to [email protected].

Use it only when your notice matches the cancelled-match situation Valve described. A kick that occurred under the input-automation rule is a different event, even if it felt like a false flag.
Do not confuse an input kick with Trusted Mode or a VAC ban
Trusted Mode
Valve describes Trusted Mode as a way to block third-party files from interacting with CS2 and to reject software that would normally inject into the game process. That is a process-integrity issue, not the same thing as a kick for automated movement or shooting input.
VAC and game bans
Steamworks describes VAC as an automated system intended to detect cheats installed on a player’s computer. A VAC ban blocks secure-server access for the affected game. The documented input-automation material does not say that every kick is a VAC ban, nor does it establish that disabling a keyboard feature reverses a ban that has already been issued.
If the notice explicitly says VAC ban or game ban, preserve the account and ban details and follow the support instructions attached to that enforcement. Do not describe the event as a keyboard false positive unless the notice actually concerns input automation.

Valve’s August 2024 announcement distinguishes official servers from non-Valve servers. Community operators may enable their own counter-strafe detection, install plugins, or apply additional rules. Ask the operator which setting produced the removal and whether an appeal process exists. A community-server kick does not by itself establish what Valve’s official servers detected, and an official-server notice does not dictate a community server’s policy.
Troubleshooting by symptom

What is not established
Valve’s available statements do not publish a numerical false-positive rate, a list of ordinary manual inputs that are mistakenly detected, or a validated success rate for appeals. They also do not establish whether the input-automation behavior changed after the 19 August 2024 release. Treat later claims from users, hardware vendors, or forum posts as unverified unless Valve documents them.
The safest interpretation is narrow: a documented input-automation kick means Valve’s system detected a pattern it classifies under that rule on the relevant server. It does not, on its own, prove a VAC ban, prove process injection, or prove that every manual input from the device is defective.
