Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If an expected AT&T outage credit is missing, first identify whether the service was postpaid wireless, prepaid, consumer internet, landline, TV, or business service. AT&T uses different eligibility rules and deadlines for each. Check the affected bill, document the outage and every prior contact, then ask the correct Customer Care team to review the charge. If that fails, use AT&T’s Notice of Dispute process.
Start with the service and account type
There is no single AT&T outage-credit policy. The answer depends on the product, account type, cause and length of the interruption, and whether the applicable rule provides an automatic credit or requires a request.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
| Service or rule | How credit starts | Main threshold or deadline | What the adjustment covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consumer postpaid wireless network-outage program | AT&T identifies qualifying lines and sends an SMS or email; contact AT&T if a qualifying line was missed | At least eight towers out for at least 60 minutes; your line connected to an affected tower and lost service for at least 60 consecutive minutes | Daily wireless service rate, excluding taxes, fees, device payments and add-ons; capped at the monthly wireless service rate |
| Consumer wireless service terms | Request required | At least 24 continuous hours of interruption caused by something within AT&T’s control | Prorated monthly service fee for unavailable time, capped at the monthly service fee |
| Consumer internet billing inquiry | Notify Customer Service | Within 60 days of the bill date for a suspected billing error | No universal residential outage formula is established; the terms governing your service control |
| Specified AT&T business HSI SLA | Request required, with a verifiable trouble ticket | Within 30 days after the event under the cited guide | Service-specific SLA credit; do not apply this rule to consumer accounts |
The table separates rules that are often confused. A consumer wireless line can potentially fit the proactive network program, the general wireless service-term provision, or neither. Prepaid, FirstNet, OneConnect and Build-A-Plan lines are excluded from the published consumer postpaid wireless network-outage program. That program applies in the United States, excluding territories, and requires the line to be in good standing. Events outside AT&T’s control can also be excluded.

The tower-based postpaid program
AT&T’s consumer wireless network-outage guarantee is narrow. A qualifying incident must involve at least eight towers out for 60 or more minutes. Your subscriber line must have been connected to an affected tower when the incident occurred and then have no service for at least 60 consecutive minutes. The line must be an eligible consumer postpaid wireless line in good standing.

AT&T says it identifies qualifying lines and notifies the account holder by SMS or email. Its published wording is: “AT&T will identify lines qualifying for an outage bill credit and notify the account holder via SMS or email.” The credit is normally applied within one to two billing cycles, so a bill immediately after the outage may not show it.
The calculation is based on the line’s daily wireless service rate. Taxes, regulatory fees, device installments and add-ons are not included. The program provides one day for each qualifying outage, with additional days for each day beyond 24 hours, but the total cannot exceed that line’s monthly wireless service rate. If AT&T did not identify your line, the company says to call or visit a store rather than assuming the credit is forfeited.
The separate 24-hour service-term provision
AT&T’s consumer wireless terms contain a different remedy. They state: “Notwithstanding the foregoing, if your Wireless Service is interrupted for 24 or more continuous hours by a cause within our control, we will issue you, upon request, a credit equal to a pro-rata adjustment of the monthly Service fee for the time period your Service was unavailable, not to exceed the monthly Service fee.”
This is not the same as the tower-based guarantee. It requires a request, a continuous interruption meeting the duration threshold, and a cause within AT&T’s control. Check the agreement that governs your particular line before relying on it; an outage that does not satisfy those conditions is not automatically covered.

Understand the consumer internet deadline
AT&T’s internet terms say that a customer who believes a bill is wrong must notify Customer Service within 60 days of the billing date. After that period, AT&T says it generally will not issue a credit or refund unless a law or regulation requires one.
That is a billing-error notice deadline, not a promise that every residential internet outage earns a fixed amount. The current consumer agreement says internet service is governed by the general agreement, service-specific terms and account documents. Use the terms attached to your product and raise the issue promptly. Do not import the wireless tower formula or a business SLA into a consumer internet claim.
Keep business service rules separate
Business agreements can impose service-level obligations that do not apply to households. One AT&T business high-speed internet guide requires a verifiable trouble ticket for specified SLA credits and says a request must be made within 30 days of the event. That guide is service-specific. Confirm that your business product, contract version and event match it before citing the deadline or requesting an SLA credit.
Check the account and bill before contacting support
- Sign in to the AT&T account that contains the affected line or service. Review the current bill, the next bill and the payment history.
- Look for a line-level adjustment rather than only the account total. A wireless credit may apply to one qualifying line, not every line on a family account.
- Search account messages, email and text messages for an outage-credit notice. Record the date AT&T said the credit would be applied and compare it with the one-to-two-cycle window for the proactive wireless program.
- Check whether the amount you expected was a service charge. Taxes, fees, device payments and add-ons are excluded from the published proactive wireless calculation.
- Save a PDF or screenshot of the bill showing the disputed charge before making changes or paying.
Do not stop paying an undisputed bill while waiting for a review. AT&T’s payment-issue support article says, “To prevent service disruption, keep paying your bill while we look into your concern.” Pay the amount required to keep service active, while clearly identifying the portion you dispute and asking how any approved credit will be applied.

Build a record that lets AT&T verify the claim
Before contacting support, assemble one folder or note containing:
- Account number and the affected wireless number, internet account or other service identifier.
- Outage date, approximate start and end times, and your time zone.
- The service that failed and what “no service” meant in practice: calls, text messages, mobile data, broadband access or another function.
- Any AT&T outage notice, maintenance message, ticket number or SMS/email about a credit.
- The bill date, disputed line item, amount requested and your calculation.
- Dates and times of previous contacts, employee names or IDs when provided, promises made and case numbers.
- Copies of bills, payment receipts, screenshots and speed or connectivity records that show the interruption.
AT&T’s issue-resolution guidance specifically asks customers to gather outage dates, account information, employee names, disputed amounts and bill copies. A precise timeline is more useful than a general statement that service was “bad for a while.”
Ask the correct AT&T team to review the missing credit
Phone and store options
Use the channel for the service involved. AT&T lists these consumer numbers on its “Resolving Issues with AT&T” page:
- Mobility: 800-331-0500
- Prepaid: 800-901-9878
- Internet, TV or landline: 800-288-2020
- From an AT&T phone: dial 611
For a missed postpaid wireless outage credit, explain that you are asking for a review of a qualifying outage, not merely reporting that the network was unavailable. Give the line, outage times, affected location, any notice you received and the bill cycle in which the credit should have appeared. Ask the representative to state whether the line was considered eligible, whether an adjustment was already issued, and what case number documents the answer. A store can also review a wireless claim when the published guarantee says to call or visit a store.

Use the online payment-issue workflow when the dispute is billing-related
AT&T’s online support route can create a trackable ticket:
- Open the account’s bill and payment history.
- Select Report a payment issue.
- Choose the issue that best matches the missing credit.
- Enter the outage dates, affected service, disputed amount and the result you are requesting.
- Attach the relevant bill, outage notice and prior case information, then submit.
- Open My Tickets to monitor progress and answer any request for more information.
The support article, last updated September 4, 2026, says a response can take up to five business days. That is a response estimate, not a guarantee that the credit will be approved or posted by then. Keep the ticket number and save each response.

Submit a Notice of Dispute
If Customer Care closes the matter without correcting the bill, or does not provide a satisfactory eligibility explanation, use AT&T’s Notice of Dispute process. Write a short, chronological statement containing:
- Service type, account number and affected line or location.
- Outage date and times, including the time zone and how service was affected.
- The contractual or published rule you believe applies, without mixing the wireless guarantee with the separate service-term provision.
- The exact credit requested and how you calculated it.
- Every prior contact, ticket number, date, representative and promised action.
- Copies of the bill and evidence supporting the outage and amount.
Ask AT&T to confirm receipt and provide a written decision. Keep the submission and delivery record. Avoid claiming that a credit is automatic unless your line and event meet the specific program conditions.

What may happen after the notice
AT&T says that if the dispute remains unresolved for 60 days, an individual small-claims case or arbitration may be available. Those options depend on the current agreement, your jurisdiction and the facts of the account. Read the dispute-resolution section that governs your service before choosing either route; this article does not establish that one is available in every case.
Diagnose the most common reasons a credit is missing
- The bill is too early: A qualifying proactive wireless adjustment can take one to two billing cycles.
- The account is the wrong type: The published tower program is for eligible consumer postpaid wireless lines and excludes prepaid and the other listed services.
- The event did not meet the tower test: A local or short interruption may not meet the affected-tower and duration requirements.
- The interruption was not within AT&T’s control: The separate wireless service-term remedy has that condition.
- The wrong charge was used: Wireless taxes, fees, device payments and add-ons are outside the proactive program’s calculation.
- The request was late: Consumer internet billing errors must be raised within the stated 60-day period; the cited business SLA uses a 30-day request period.
- No verifiable ticket exists: The specified business HSI SLA requires one, so create and retain the trouble-ticket record when reporting the event.
- Only one line qualified: A family account can show a credit for an affected line while other lines remain unchanged.
