First, identify your ColorOS and Android version
OPPO changes menu names and locations between ColorOS generations and phone models. Before following a version-specific path, open Settings > About Phone or Settings > About device and note the model, Android version, and ColorOS version. If a path below is not visible, use the wording on your phone or the Settings search field for terms such as software update, storage, apps, or app management.

Start with the reversible checks
1. Restart the phone
Use the normal power menu to restart, wait for the phone to finish booting, and test the same app or task that was failing. A restart closes stuck processes and lets recently installed system components finish loading. It does not erase personal data, so it is the safest first action.

2. Update the affected apps
Open the Play Store, go to your account area, and check for pending updates. If your phone uses another relevant app store, check there as well. An app built for an older Android release can crash or behave poorly after a system update until its developer publishes a compatible version. If the store itself cannot download updates, test the connection before changing app data.
3. Check for another system update
Open Settings and look for Software update, System update, or a similarly named item. Install an offered update only when the phone has sufficient charge and a reliable connection. Update eligibility is model- and region-dependent; an option shown on one OPPO phone may not exist on another.
4. Check free internal storage
In Settings > Storage (the exact label varies), review how much internal space remains. A nearly full phone can become sluggish and can prevent apps from installing or updating. Remove only files, downloads, photos, videos, or apps that you recognize and no longer need. If something matters, copy it to a trusted backup location first. OPPO’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking storage, clearing caches, and removing unused apps; it does not require a third-party “cleaner” app.

If only one app is crashing
A single failing app points first to that app’s process or installation, especially when the rest of the phone responds normally. Work through these steps in order and test the app after each one.
Force-stop the app
- Open Settings.
- Choose Apps, App management, or the equivalent menu.
- Select the app that crashes.
- Tap Force stop and confirm.
- Open the app again from the home screen or app drawer.
Force-stopping ends the current process; it does not remove the account, documents, or settings stored by the app. If the app opens normally afterward, continue using it while watching for a recurrence and install any pending update.
Clear the app’s cache
From the same app-information screen, open Storage or Storage usage, then choose Clear cache. Cached temporary files can become unusable after a system or app change. Clearing them should not be treated as a substitute for a backup, but it is less destructive than clearing stored app data. Reopen the app and test the failing function.

Update or reinstall the app
If the crash continues, check the app store for an update. When no update helps, uninstalling and installing the app again can repair a damaged installation. Reinstallation may remove information kept only on the device, so first confirm that the app synchronizes its content to an account or that you have another way to restore it. Messaging, authenticator, game, finance, and editing apps can each have different backup procedures.

Clear data, Clear storage, or an equivalent button is a different operation from clearing cache. It can delete locally stored app information and return the app to its initial setup state. You may need to sign in again, reconfigure preferences, download offline files, or restore content from the app’s own backup. Use it only after checking what the app stores locally and preserving anything you need.
If several apps crash or the whole phone is slow
When the symptom crosses app boundaries, focus on phone-wide conditions rather than repeatedly resetting individual apps.

Recheck storage and remove a plausible cause
Return to the storage screen and identify what is consuming space. Remove recognized, unnecessary files and apps, then restart and test. If the slowdown began immediately after installing a particular third-party app, remove that app and observe whether normal performance returns. Do not uninstall software at random: a change is useful only when you can connect it to the timing or behavior of the problem.
Install all compatible updates
Complete pending updates for commonly used apps, then check the system-update screen again. A phone can feel inconsistent when some apps have adapted to the new Android version and others have not. If an app store cannot update anything, verify Wi-Fi or mobile-data connectivity, confirm that storage is available, and retry after restarting.

Try several unrelated built-in functions, such as Settings, the phone dialer, and the camera, as well as more than one third-party app. If only one service fails, return to the single-app procedure. If built-in functions also freeze, crash, or respond slowly after storage and update checks, document the pattern for OPPO Support instead of repeatedly clearing app data.

After an Android update, an app may require a newer Android release, a capability your model does not provide, or a device configuration that differs by region. OPPO notes that some apps may no longer work on older devices and that system-update availability depends on the model and market. Therefore, do not promise that another update will arrive or that an app will definitely regain compatibility.
Check the app’s store listing for its Android requirement and contact the app developer when the listing identifies a compatibility restriction. For phone-specific eligibility, use OPPO’s support channels with the exact model number, Android version, ColorOS version, country or region, and the date the symptom began. Those details help distinguish an app limitation from a phone fault.
What not to do while diagnosing the problem
- Do not install generic “cleaner,” booster, or memory-management apps as a required remedy. Built-in storage and app controls are sufficient for the documented checks.
- Do not repeatedly force-stop every app; target the app that fails and observe the result.
- Do not clear app data before checking for local files, account recovery, and backup options.
- Do not treat a factory reset as a routine update step. It is destructive and is not guaranteed to fix this particular symptom.
- Do not infer a confirmed Android-update bug from timing alone. A model-specific official notice would be needed for that conclusion.
Factory reset is a last resort
A reset can remove accumulated software configuration problems, but it should come only after the reversible steps and a support discussion. OPPO’s wipe guidance warns that a reset removes personal content, installed apps and their data, settings, and files stored in internal memory. Anything not backed up and restorable can be lost.

Prepare before resetting
- Back up photos, videos, documents, contacts, messages, and authenticator or other security data using methods you can verify.
- Confirm that you know the passwords and recovery methods for your Google account, OPPO account, and essential apps.
- Check that backups actually contain recent data by viewing them from another device or the relevant cloud service.
- Keep the phone charged and record the model and software versions in case you need service afterward.
Only then use the reset option found under the phone’s reset or additional-settings menu; the exact label varies by ColorOS version. Follow the on-screen warnings carefully. After setup, install system and app updates, restore only necessary data, and test whether the original symptom remains before reinstalling every app.
When to contact OPPO Support or a service center
Escalate when crashes affect built-in apps, the phone remains slow after storage and update checks, the device repeatedly restarts, or a reset is being considered. OPPO directs users to customer support and service centers for unresolved stability problems. Availability, repair options, and contact methods differ by country and device.
Give support a concise record: model number, region, Android and ColorOS versions, the update date, the names of affected apps, whether one or many apps are involved, free-storage status, and the steps already attempted. Include exact error messages and whether the phone is slow in Settings as well as in downloaded apps. This prevents repeating risky steps and helps support determine whether the cause is compatibility, software, storage, or hardware.
