First, find out whether the transfer is still being processed by the sending exchange, is waiting for blockchain confirmations, or has reached the receiving exchange but is not yet credited. Check the withdrawal record for its status and transaction ID (TxID), then follow the relevant steps below. A sender’s “Success” or “Completed” status alone does not prove that the recipient has credited the funds.
How to tell where the transfer is delayed
A transfer can pass through three distinct stages. Identifying its current stage helps you contact the right platform and avoid treating an exchange-processing delay as a blockchain problem.

- Sending exchange processing: The platform reviews or processes the withdrawal. It may not have broadcast a transaction yet.
- Blockchain processing: The exchange broadcasts the transaction, which then waits for or accumulates confirmations on the selected network.
- Receiving exchange credit: The destination platform applies its own confirmation, account, and deposit requirements before making the funds available.
A transaction can be complete on the sender’s side but still be waiting for confirmations or credit at the destination. Coinbase and Kraken describe these as separate steps in their deposit guidance: Coinbase Exchange: Why is my transaction pending? and Kraken: Cryptocurrency deposit processing times.

1. Read the sending exchange’s withdrawal status
Open the withdrawal record and note its exact status. Look for a TxID or transaction hash, the asset, the selected network, and the destination address. Status names are platform-specific. Kraken, for example, lists Initiated, Pending, Sending, Success, On hold, and Failed; its guidance describes Initiated and Pending as internal processing stages and Sending as broadcast to the network and awaiting a blockchain confirmation. See Kraken’s withdrawal status and cancellation guidance.

2. If there is no TxID, check the sender’s official guidance
Without a TxID, there may be no on-chain transaction to inspect yet. The withdrawal could still be undergoing internal checks or payment-gateway processing. Check the exchange’s status page, any displayed error or account alert, and its official help flow. If the withdrawal is On hold or Failed, contact that exchange through its official support channel. Do not assume another platform uses the same status labels or processing times.
3. If a TxID exists, inspect it on the correct network
Open a blockchain explorer for the network shown in the withdrawal record, then search the TxID. Check whether the transaction is pending, confirmed, or rejected and, if confirmed, how many confirmations it has. Coinbase and Binance both direct users to transaction details or the TxID to check a transfer’s on-chain state: Coinbase: Why is my transaction pending? and Binance: Why hasn’t my deposit arrived?.

4. For a missing deposit, verify the receiving details
Compare the withdrawal record with the receiving exchange’s deposit instructions. Confirm the asset, network, and destination address, and check whether the destination required a memo or tag. Also review the receiving account’s deposit history and alerts. An unsupported asset or network may not be credited automatically; recovery options depend on the platform and the specific case. Coinbase outlines these limitations in its unsupported-crypto recovery guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems5. Compare the confirmation count with the destination’s requirement
There is no single confirmation threshold for every transfer. Requirements vary by asset, network, and receiving exchange, so check the destination’s current instructions for the specific deposit. Coinbase Exchange says deposits remain Pending until the required confirmations accrue and publishes currency-specific requirements in its pending-transaction guidance. Kraken distinguishes a Credited deposit, which may be available to trade but not withdraw, from Successful, when withdrawals are available; see Kraken’s deposit processing times.

6. If the network confirms the transfer but the deposit is missing, contact the receiver
Once the explorer shows the transaction confirmed and the destination’s stated confirmation requirement is met, contact the receiving exchange through its official support route. Include the TxID, asset, network, amount, destination address, and a link or screenshot of the explorer result. Binance’s guidance directs users to the destination platform when the blockchain confirms a transfer but the receiving wallet has not credited it: Why hasn’t my deposit arrived?
Why a transfer might take longer
Exchange documentation identifies several possible causes, but none can be diagnosed from a delay alone. The TxID, network, and exact platform status are needed to narrow it down.

- More confirmations are needed: The transaction may be on-chain, but the receiver’s asset-specific threshold has not yet been reached. Coinbase Exchange and Kraken describe confirmation requirements for deposits.
- Node synchronization or stale-block issues: Coinbase lists temporary exchange-node synchronization loss and stale-block rejection among possible reasons for a delayed or pending transaction. Its page says this particular class of sync-related delay is usually under an hour; that is a Coinbase-specific description, not a general estimate for other causes or exchanges. See Coinbase’s pending-transaction guidance.
- A low fee on an unconfirmed transaction: A low transaction fee can be a possible factor while a transaction remains unconfirmed, as described in Kraken’s deposit processing guidance. Check the actual transaction state before concluding that this is the cause.
- Sender-side checks or a hold: If the sender has not issued a TxID, the withdrawal may still be in the platform’s own processing flow. Use that exchange’s status information and support rather than trying to diagnose a blockchain transaction that may not have been broadcast.
Can you cancel a delayed withdrawal?
Cancellation depends on the sending exchange and the withdrawal’s stage. Kraken says a cancellation request can be made only while a withdrawal is Initiated or Pending, and a request made while Pending is not guaranteed. Once a transaction is broadcast, it may be awaiting blockchain confirmation; do not assume it can be canceled or reversed. Other exchanges have their own rules. See Kraken’s cancellation guidance.
How long should you wait?
There is no reliable universal wait time: exchange processing, network confirmations, and destination crediting have different causes and requirements. Kraken’s Classic withdrawal guide estimates up to 10 minutes for its Initiated and Pending stages, while noting that total time depends on internal processing and the destination’s confirmation requirements. That is a Kraken-specific estimate for those stages, not a guarantee or a standard for other exchanges. See Kraken’s withdrawal guidance. Coinbase’s “usually under an hour” description applies to the sync-related delay described in its own guidance, not to all delayed transfers: Coinbase’s pending-transaction guidance.
