If an AI-generated video of you has been posted or threatened, first deal with any immediate danger, then preserve what you can safely document and report each post to the platform hosting it. The right removal and legal options depend on whether the video is intimate, whether the person depicted is an adult or a minor, and where you are.
1. Deal with immediate danger or threats first
If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. If someone is threatening to publish the video unless you pay, send more material, or do something else, take the threat seriously. Do not meet the person or send more material to appease them. If it is safe, keep the messages and seek help from someone you trust, local authorities, or a specialist support service.

2. Preserve evidence safely
Before a post disappears, make a record of what you found, if doing so is safe. Keep the post or page URL, platform, account name, date and time you found it, screenshots, messages, threats, payment demands, and any platform report confirmation or case number. If the video appears in several places, record each location separately.

Store the records securely and do not repost or forward the video to prove what happened. If documenting it feels distressing, ask a trusted person to help. If the content may depict a minor in sexual content, do not download or forward it; use the reporting options for minors described below.
3. Report each copy to the service hosting it
Use the host platform’s reporting or support process. Describe the video accurately as nonconsensual and AI-generated, where applicable. For sexual or intimate content, select the closest available category for nonconsensual intimate imagery or sexual content. Keep the confirmation or case number. Report each appearance separately; a platform may treat a search result differently from the page that hosts the video. 4. Choose the escalation that fits your location and situation

For a US complaint, the FTC also explains what image-based abuse includes and what to do. Its guidance covers sexually explicit material that may be real, digitally altered, or AI-generated.
5. Limit reuploads, with the right tool for the person depicted
If the person depicted is an adult
StopNCII is a free global service that creates a digital fingerprint of selected intimate imagery and shares the fingerprint—not the image—with participating platforms, which can use it to look for matches. It is intended to help limit reuploads; it does not guarantee removal everywhere and does not cover non-participating platforms. Its described process is image-based, so do not assume it can fingerprint or stop every AI-generated video. Report the video itself to each service hosting it.

If the person depicted is a minor
The FTC directs people to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s Take It Down service and CyberTipline for sexual images involving a minor. Do not download or forward suspected child sexual abuse material.
6. If the video is nonsexual, report the actual harm
The legal and reporting routes above focus on intimate-image abuse. A nonsexual fake endorsement, scam, impersonation, or humiliating clip may fit a platform’s impersonation, fraud, harassment, or privacy policy instead. Choose the closest accurate category and explain what is fabricated and how the account or video is being used. The cited guidance does not establish one universal removal process or legal remedy for nonsexual synthetic videos, so seek location-specific advice when needed.

7. Secure accounts and get support
As a precaution, change passwords that may have been exposed, enable multifactor authentication, review recovery email and phone settings and active sessions, and secure accounts where personal photos are stored. These steps can reduce account risk; they do not mean that an account was necessarily compromised.
