Then check the PS4 library’s hidden-content list and restore licenses. Those checks cover the most common cases without deleting your saves or installed data.
If access came through PlayStation Plus or another user’s shared library, verify those conditions separately. Service outages, outdated system software and database errors are later possibilities. If the game remains missing after the checks below, contact PlayStation Support with the transaction and error details.

Identify how you were entitled to play the game
A missing icon does not always mean a purchase has been lost. The correct fix depends on how the PS4 account obtained access. Treat these as separate paths rather than interchangeable remedies.

Do not use a Plus check to prove a direct purchase, or a transaction-history check on the wrong account to disprove a purchase. Establish the access source first, then follow the matching steps.

1. Confirm the account and the purchase
Sign in to the purchasing account
On the PS4, switch to the PlayStation account that originally bought the game. A title purchased by a family member or a second account will not appear in the current account’s transaction history. If you are unsure which account was used, check each plausible account rather than repeatedly searching one account.
Check transaction history
Open the account’s transaction history and look for the game. The record should show that the purchase succeeded, not merely that an order was attempted or canceled. This is the decisive ownership check for a direct Store purchase: if the successful transaction is recorded on that account, continue with the library and license steps; if it is absent, you may be signed into the wrong account or dealing with a different access source.
Use the result to choose the next path
- Successful purchase found: Keep using this account for the remaining checks. The missing entry is more likely hidden, temporarily unlicensed or affected by a service or database problem.
- No purchase found: Check other PlayStation accounts that may have bought the title. If the game was obtained through Plus or another user’s sharing, use those sections instead of treating the missing transaction as proof of a failed purchase.
- An error or unfamiliar charge appears: Record the exact message and transaction information for Support rather than attempting repeated purchases.

2. Check the PS4 hidden-content list
Open the hidden-items command
- From the PS4 home screen, open Library.
- Select Purchased.
- Press the OPTIONS button on the controller.
- Choose Check Hidden Content Items.
PlayStation allows a game hidden from the library to remain hidden across the libraries on all consoles using that account. That means the game can be owned and otherwise functional while being absent from the normal Purchased view. Sony documents this control in How to hide games on PlayStation consoles.

If the game is listed as hidden
Use the on-screen option to show or unhide it, then return to Library > Purchased. Give the library a moment to refresh before searching again. Once the title is visible, select it to download or start it as appropriate for your account and console.
If the hidden list is empty
Do not hide and unhide unrelated titles as a substitute for an entitlement check. Continue to license restoration while signed in to the account that owns the game. A hidden-content result only addresses visibility; it does not establish that the current account bought the game or that a Plus catalog entitlement is still valid.
3. Restore the PS4’s licenses
Run the official restore command
- Open Settings on the PS4.
- Select Account Management.
- Choose Restore Licenses.
- Select Restore and wait for the process to finish.
PlayStation specifically recommends license restoration when a game cannot be located. The official guidance states: “Please note, restoring licenses won’t affect your data.” In practical terms, this is an entitlement refresh, not a request to erase installed games, saved data or captures. What to check after restoration
Return to the Purchased library and search for the title while remaining on the purchasing account. If the game now appears, open its page and check whether the download or launch control is available. If it still does not appear, restoration has not changed the account’s entitlement; move to the access-source checks and service troubleshooting rather than repeating the command indefinitely.

Why restoration is not the same as a refund or re-download
Restoring licenses does not reverse a transaction, change which account owns a game or extend a Plus subscription. It asks the console to reconcile the account’s licenses with the content it can see. That is why it belongs after confirming the account and before more disruptive troubleshooting.
4. Verify PlayStation Plus access separately
Monthly or claimed Plus games
If the game was obtained as a PlayStation Plus benefit rather than bought outright, confirm that the PlayStation Plus subscription on the relevant account is active. A lapsed subscription can remove access even though the game was previously added to the library. In this situation, a missing direct-purchase transaction is expected because the entitlement came from Plus.
Plus catalog games
For a title accessed from a Plus catalog, two conditions apply: the subscription must be active and the game must still be available in the catalog. Catalog availability can change, so a title leaving the catalog is different from a library visibility problem. Check the current catalog listing before spending time on account or database repairs.
Keep the evidence distinct
A successful Store transaction proves a direct purchase; it does not prove that a Plus catalog title remains playable. Conversely, an active Plus subscription does not turn a title acquired by another account into a purchase on your account. 5. Check sharing from another user on the PS4
Verify the owner’s primary PS4
If another user bought the game and you played it through console sharing, the owner’s account must have activated this console as their primary PS4. Ask the owner to sign in on the console and verify that primary-console activation is still in place. The owner’s transaction will not appear in your account’s history, so checking only your account can produce the wrong diagnosis.
Recognize a sharing-specific failure
This path is relevant when the owner can see the purchase but your account cannot use it. If the owner’s account also cannot find the title, return to the transaction, hidden-content and license checks for that account. If the owner changed consoles or deactivated the PS4, sharing access can stop even though the purchase itself remains valid for the owner.

Check service status before changing the console
Account validation, library synchronization and license checks can fail during a PlayStation service interruption. Check the official PlayStation service-status page linked from the troubleshooting guidance. If an outage is reported, note its status and retry after service is restored instead of repeatedly changing account settings.
Install the latest PS4 system software
Out-of-date system software can interfere with current Store and license functions. In Settings, use the PS4 system-software update option and install the latest update offered for the console. Allow the update to complete, restart if prompted, then sign in to the owning account and check the library again.
Retry in a controlled order
After a service recovery or system update, test one condition at a time: sign in to the verified account, open Library > Purchased, search for the game and attempt to open its content page. This makes it clear whether the change came from the service recovery, the update or an earlier entitlement correction.
7. Rebuild the database only after entitlement checks
When this step is appropriate
If the transaction, hidden-content list, license restoration and applicable Plus or sharing checks are all correct, a local database indexing problem is a plausible later cause. PlayStation’s download troubleshooting sequence includes Safe Mode > Rebuild Database. Treat it as a later repair, not the first response to a missing purchase.
Use the Safe Mode command
- Start the PS4 in Safe Mode according to the console’s on-screen Safe Mode instructions.
- Select Rebuild Database.
- Let the process finish without interrupting power to the console.
- Restart the PS4, sign in to the account that owns or provides access to the game, and check the Purchased library.
Use the exact Safe Mode menu shown by the console. Do not choose a reset or initialization option when your goal is only to rebuild the database; those are different actions. If you are uncertain which option is highlighted, stop and consult the official troubleshooting instructions rather than selecting a destructive command.
Interpret the outcome
If the game returns after rebuilding, the problem was likely local library indexing rather than ownership. If it remains absent, do not assume the database operation changed the purchase. Preserve the transaction record, error text and account details for Support.
8. Contact PlayStation Support with a reproducible case
When to escalate
Contact PlayStation Support when the purchasing account has a successful transaction, the game is not hidden, license restoration has completed, and any Plus or sharing condition is valid, yet the title remains unavailable. Escalation is also appropriate if the console displays an error you cannot resolve or the transaction history does not behave as expected.
Prepare the information Support needs
- The exact game title and edition, if more than one edition exists.
- The PlayStation account used to purchase or claim it, without sending your password.
- The transaction date or other transaction-history details showing the successful purchase.
- Any error code or complete on-screen error message.
- A concise description of what you expected to happen.
- The precise steps that reproduce the missing-library problem.
- The date and time of a recent access attempt, including your time zone if requested.
- A screenshot or video of the library, transaction or error screen when possible.
Describe the checks already completed
Tell Support whether you checked Library > Purchased > OPTIONS > Check Hidden Content Items, ran Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses, verified Plus or primary-PS4 sharing, checked service status, updated system software and rebuilt the database. This gives the agent a reproducible timeline and avoids repeating steps without knowing their results.
