Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →First separate the symptom: is the PS5 receiving no power, showing a blank screen despite powering on, or starting normally but reporting a network error? Check the console’s indicator and write down any code exactly as displayed. Those observations determine whether you should troubleshoot the outlet and startup process, the display path, or PlayStation Network and your home network.
Use the matching procedure below. Ordinary restarts are low-risk. Safe Mode can recover startup and video problems, but some choices erase data, so do not jump to a reset or system-software reinstallation before protecting saved data where possible.

Identify which PS5 problem you actually have
A console that will not turn on is not necessarily the same problem as a PS5 that turns on but produces no picture. Network errors are a separate branch again. Use these visible symptoms to choose the right checks.
| What you observe | Most relevant branch | First checks | Primary risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| No indicator activity or the console immediately goes dark | Power and startup | Outlet, cable seating, indicator behavior, then PlayStation’s power diagnostic | Persistent hardware or startup fault may require repair |
| The console appears powered, but the TV is blank | Display output | Display connections and Safe Mode’s Change Video Output tools | A display fault can be mistaken for no power |
| The PS5 starts but cannot sign in or reach online services | Network connectivity | Exact error code, PlayStation Network status, console and router restart, then a wired test | The service, router, ISP, Wi-Fi path, or console network settings may be involved |
If the screen is blank, look for any indicator change or startup sound before treating it as a dead console. If an error code is visible, use it rather than applying generic fixes intended for a different code.

When the PS5 will not turn on
1. Check the basic power path
- Confirm the wall outlet is supplying power by checking it with another known-working device, if available.
- Unplug and firmly reseat the PS5 power cable at both the console and the outlet. Look for a loose connection or visible cable damage.
- Press the power button and watch the indicator. Note whether it stays dark, lights briefly, blinks, or goes dark again. The indicator pattern is useful evidence for PlayStation Support.
PlayStation provides a dedicated power-issues diagnostic and an indicator guide. Follow the behavior that matches your console instead of assuming every failure has the same cause.
2. Try the documented power cycle
For the power-off behavior covered by PlayStation’s indicator guidance, disconnect the console from power for three minutes. Reconnect it and try to start it again. This is a prescribed power-cycle check, not a universal hardware repair; do not repeat it indefinitely if the same failure returns.
3. Rule out a display failure
If the PS5 gives an indicator response but the television remains blank, treat the symptom as a display-output problem. Check that the display cable is connected at both ends and that the television is on the correct input. Then use Safe Mode’s Change Video Output options, which PlayStation identifies as a way to troubleshoot a blank screen. A blank image alone does not prove that the console has no power.

4. Handle startup error SU-101337-5
If the console starts abnormally and shows SU-101337-5, PlayStation’s guidance is to unplug the power for five minutes, reconnect it, and try again. If the abnormal startup remains, follow the official Safe Mode instructions for reinstalling or repairing the system software. If Safe Mode will not start or the fault continues, the console may need service.

5. Enter Safe Mode only when the symptom calls for it
To start Safe Mode, power the PS5 completely off. Press and hold the power button until you hear the second beep, about seven seconds after the first. Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button. The recovery menu then presents tools for startup, video output, updates, and other recovery tasks.
Read each option’s description before selecting it. PlayStation warns: “Some Safe Mode options will result in the loss of data.” Back up saved data where possible before choosing a reset or system-software reinstallation. Use the least destructive option that addresses the observed problem; do not select a factory-style recovery merely because the first restart failed.
6. Stop before speculative hardware replacement
If the PS5 remains completely unresponsive after the outlet, cable, indicator, and documented power-cycle checks, use PlayStation’s official Repairs diagnostic. Persistent startup faults belong with that process rather than guessed replacement parts or opening the console. Record the indicator behavior, any code, and which steps you already completed so the repair intake starts with useful information.
When the PS5 will not connect to the internet
1. Record the exact code and check service status
Write down the complete network error, including every letter, number, and hyphen. Before changing settings, check the PlayStation Network status page for an outage or maintenance. A service-side problem can look like a console failure, and changing local settings will not restore a service that is unavailable.

- Stable U/FTP Shielding Each of the 4 twisted pairs is individually wrapped with aluminum foil to help reduce crosstalk, noise, and signal interference. Combined with RJ45 connectors on both ends, the U/FTP design helps maintain cleaner signal transmission for a stable and reliable wired network connection.
- Nylon Braided Durability The nylon braided jacket adds everyday durability while keeping the cable flexible and easy to route. Reinforced construction helps the cord handle bending, pulling and frequent plugging, making it a reliable choice for desks, gaming rooms, home offices and long-term network setups.
- 50ft Reach for More Setups The 50 ft length makes it easier to connect devices across rooms, along walls, under desks or around corners. Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.
2. Restart the console
Restart the PS5 normally and retry the connection. A restart clears a temporary network state without changing saved network configuration. If the same code returns, continue with the router and connection checks rather than repeatedly rebooting the console.
3. Restart the router and modem correctly
Power off the router and modem, wait at least five minutes, then power them back on and allow them to finish starting before testing the PS5. This waiting period follows PlayStation’s guidance for network errors such as WS-116414-7. If your home uses a single gateway device, apply the same power-off and wait procedure to that device.
4. Run a wired comparison
If you have a suitable Ethernet cable, temporarily connect the PS5 directly to the router and test again. The purpose is diagnosis: Ethernet bypasses the Wi-Fi link. If wired networking works while Wi-Fi does not, the comparison points toward wireless range, interference, placement, or Wi-Fi configuration; it does not identify one precise cause by itself. You do not need to buy a cable to complete other steps, but an existing cable can make this branch much faster to isolate.
5. Improve the Wi-Fi path
- Move the PS5 closer to the router for the test.
- Remove obvious obstructions between the console and router.
- Temporarily move the console away from likely sources of wireless interference.
- Retry after the router has fully restarted.
These are low-cost diagnostic changes. If the connection improves after moving the console, the result implicates the wireless path or placement, not necessarily a defective PS5.

6. Reconfigure the PS5 network settings
Open the PS5’s Network settings, remove or edit the affected connection, and set it up again using the options for your home network. Re-enter the wireless network name and password carefully, then run the console’s connection test. If the router vendor or internet provider documents a required firmware update or compatibility setting, follow that provider’s instructions.
Do not make static IP, DNS, port-forwarding, or other advanced changes as routine first steps. Use them only when the exact PlayStation error guidance calls for them and you understand the network’s administration requirements. An incorrect manual value can create a second problem while the original service issue remains.
7. Retry later when the service is busy
For WS-116414-7, PlayStation advises checking service status, restarting the PS5, restarting the router after waiting five minutes, and trying again later. If the status page reports maintenance or the official error article says the connection may be temporarily busy, waiting is the appropriate action. Do not interpret a temporary service failure as proof that the console’s network hardware has failed.

| Code or condition | What the documented guidance emphasizes | When to escalate |
|---|---|---|
| WS-116414-7 | Check PlayStation Network status, restart the PS5, power-cycle the router after a five-minute wait, and retry later if the service is busy. | After status is normal and the prescribed restarts, wired test, and network reconfiguration do not resolve it. |
| SU-101337-5 | Disconnect power for five minutes, reconnect, and retry; if abnormal startup remains, use the official Safe Mode recovery instructions. | If Safe Mode cannot start or the startup fault continues. |
| No code, no power | Check outlet, cable seating, indicator behavior, and the documented three-minute disconnect procedure where applicable. | Use PlayStation Repairs for a persistent power or startup failure. |
| Powered console, blank image | Follow the display path and Safe Mode’s Change Video Output tools rather than treating the console as completely unpowered. | If the display remains blank after the supported recovery steps. |
Safe Mode: what it is and how to avoid data loss
Safe Mode is a recovery environment reached by the two-beep power-button procedure. It is useful when normal startup fails, a blank screen prevents ordinary menus, or system software needs a supported update or reinstallation. Connect the controller by USB because wireless pairing is not the normal entry method at this stage.
Start with the option that matches the symptom and read the warning attached to it. Video-output changes are appropriate for a blank screen. Update or recovery options may address abnormal startup. Reset and reinstallation choices are more disruptive and can remove local data. Because PlayStation explicitly warns that some Safe Mode options cause data loss, back up saved data before destructive recovery whenever the console can still access it.
If the PS5 cannot reach Safe Mode at all, or if the fault returns after the prescribed recovery, stop cycling through increasingly destructive options and use the official repair diagnostic.

| Question | Power/startup branch | Network branch |
|---|---|---|
| What is observable? | No indicator response, brief or abnormal indicator behavior, startup code, or a blank display. | A functioning console with a connection, sign-in, or service error. |
| What external dependency matters first? | Outlet, power cable, display connection, and the console’s startup software. | PlayStation Network, router, modem, ISP, Wi-Fi environment, or Ethernet path. |
| Best early test | Power connection and indicator-guided diagnostic; Safe Mode for display or startup symptoms. | Service-status check followed by restart, router power cycle, and Ethernet comparison. |
| Data risk | Normal restarts are low-risk; Safe Mode reset or reinstallation can erase data. | Restarting devices and reconfiguring a connection normally do not erase games or saves, but avoid unnecessary system resets. |
Do not cross the branches too early. A network outage will not be fixed by reinstalling system software, and a console with no power cannot be repaired through router settings.
When to contact PlayStation support or Repairs
- The PS5 remains unresponsive after checking the outlet, reseating the cable, observing the indicator, and applying the documented power-cycle step.
- Safe Mode will not start, or startup remains abnormal after the instructions for SU-101337-5.
- The console repeatedly fails after PlayStation Network is operating normally, the router and modem have been restarted, and a wired comparison or network reconfiguration has been attempted.
- You are considering opening the console, replacing a power component, or selecting a destructive Safe Mode option without a current backup.
Use the official PlayStation Repairs diagnostic for persistent power and startup faults. For network failures, keep the exact code, service-status result, whether Ethernet worked, and the date and time of each test. That record helps support distinguish a temporary service condition from a local network or console problem.
Quick Recap
A concise decision sequence
- Identify whether the symptom is no power, a blank display, or a network failure.
- Record the indicator behavior and exact error code, if any.
