Start with two checks before you try to buy or download the game again: open the PlayStation Network service-status page, then open Transaction History on the account used at checkout. A missing transaction usually means a payment problem; a completed transaction points to an account, entitlement, license, or download problem. Note whether you are using a PS4 or PS5, the exact error code, and which account made the purchase.
First, separate a failed checkout from a completed purchase
A bank charge and a PlayStation entitlement are related but different questions. Transaction History is the authoritative first check for whether the Store recorded the purchase. Do not restore licenses or repeatedly enter card details until you know which branch you are on.

- Check service status. If PlayStation Network services are having an outage, wallet funding and downloads can fail. Wait until the status page reports recovery before attempting the same transaction again.
- Open Transaction History. Use the account that was signed in when you checked out. Record the transaction date, title, amount, and status.
- Write down the environment. Note PS4 or PS5, the Store country or region, the exact on-screen message or error code, and whether another account owns the game.
| What Transaction History shows | What to do next |
|---|---|
| No successful transaction | Treat the issue as payment or wallet funding. Check the payment method, billing details, region, and service status before trying again. |
| A successful transaction is present | Do not pay again. Check the purchasing account, Game Library, hidden items, subscription entitlement, console sharing, licenses, and download queue. |
If your bank shows a charge but Transaction History does not, preserve the bank record and do not make a second purchase while you investigate. A duplicate wallet-funding entry can also be checked against both Store history and the bank statement.
When the game cannot be found in the Store
Check the account and Store region
Sign out of other users and confirm the account and Store country or region you intend to use. Payment methods, catalog availability, and voucher validity are tied to the account’s region. A card registered in a different country from the Store region may not link, and a voucher purchased for another region will not solve an entitlement problem.

Check whether access came from PlayStation Plus
If you did not buy the title outright, verify that the relevant PlayStation Plus subscription is active. For a catalog title, confirm that the game is still included in the catalog available to your plan; catalog access can end even when the game remains visible to other users. A subscription entitlement is not the same as a permanent purchase.
Check hidden content and the Game Library
On the purchasing account, open the Game Library and review hidden items as well as the normal purchased list. Search from the Library rather than assuming that a missing Store search result means the transaction failed. If the title is absent from both Transaction History and the Library, capture the title, region, and error text for PlayStation Support rather than purchasing it again.
Understand what a voucher can and cannot do
A PlayStation Store wallet voucher can add funds when card funding is unavailable. It must match the account’s Store region and be a valid, current code. It does not make a delisted or region-restricted game appear, repair a missing entitlement, or guarantee that checkout will complete.

Use the account that owns the entitlement
Return to Transaction History and confirm that the completed transaction belongs to the account currently signed in. Family members often see a game on the console while a different account owns it. The owner must be the account whose purchase or subscription supplies the entitlement.

Check sharing settings for another user’s purchase
On PS5, the owner should enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on the console where other users need access. On PS4, the owner should activate that console as the account’s primary PS4. Without the owner’s sharing or primary-console setting, another local user can see a locked padlock even though the purchase is valid.
Restore licenses
After confirming the account and transaction, use the console’s Restore Licenses function. This refreshes the console’s record of purchased content; it does not create a purchase, change the Store region, or convert a PlayStation Plus catalog entitlement into ownership. Restart the console after the restore and check the Library again.
Use Safe Mode only for persistent license or content faults
If the title remains locked or its content record is damaged, Sony’s support guidance places clearing the cache and rebuilding the database in Safe Mode after the ordinary account and license checks. Safe Mode menus differ between PS5 and PS4, so follow the instructions for your exact console and read each option carefully. Do not select an initialization or reset option unless you have deliberately backed up data and understand that it can erase the console.
When the download will not start or stalls
PS5 queue recovery
- Open Downloads/Uploads and pause the game.
- Resume it and watch whether the progress changes.
- If it remains stalled, cancel and delete the queue item.
- Open Game Library, select the purchased title, and start the download again.
Before repeating the download, check PlayStation Network status, install the latest system software available to the console, and verify that enough storage is free for the game and its updates. A successful transaction does not guarantee that a nearly full drive can accept the installation.

PS4-specific checks
Use the PS4’s Notifications download list and Game Library rather than applying a PS5 menu path. Pause and resume the item, check free storage and system software, and then follow the PS4 Safe Mode instructions if the queue repeatedly fails. Keep the exact code and the steps already attempted; support can use that information to distinguish a license fault from a storage or network failure.
When to stop retrying
Repeated cancellations can make it harder to tell whether the problem is a service outage, a corrupted queue entry, or local storage. After one clean retry with status, software, and storage checked, move to the console-specific support process instead of repeatedly starting the same download.
When PlayStation Store declines your card or wallet funding
Confirm the method and billing details
Accepted payment methods vary by Store country. Use the payment page for your own region rather than assuming that a method listed on a US support page is available everywhere. Check the billing name, address, expiration date, security code, and any bank verification requirement with the card issuer or payment provider.

Changing the console’s language or physical location does not change the account’s Store country, so a mismatched account and card can continue to fail until you use a compatible method.

Respect the 24-hour payment-detail block
If Sony reports that payment information was updated too often, stop editing the details and wait a full 24 hours. Every attempt made during the waiting period can start another 24-hour block. During the wait, use an alternative accepted method or add funds with a region-matched PlayStation Store wallet code instead of testing the blocked card repeatedly.
Know how wallet funds are applied
Wallet funds are used first for a purchase. A subscription bought with wallet funds may still require a payment method to remain on the account, so adding wallet credit does not necessarily remove every billing requirement for recurring service.
Handle an apparent charge carefully
If your bank shows a debit, check Transaction History and subscription renewals before attempting checkout again. If the charge is not recognized after those checks, use Sony’s unauthorized-transaction and account-security guidance promptly. Do not ask your bank to reverse a valid PlayStation transaction as a first response: a chargeback can place restrictions on the account and complicate recovery.

Refunds: choose the rule for the purchase type
Sony’s refund conditions differ for games and downloadable content, subscriptions, and pre-orders. The following game/DLC window is from Sony’s US support policy accessed in 2026; local law and your regional policy can provide different or additional rights.

| Purchase type | Key conditions in Sony’s policy | Request route or timing |
|---|---|---|
| Game or DLC | Request within 14 days and do not download or stream the content, unless the content is faulty or local law provides another remedy. | Transaction History → select the eligible transaction → Request Refund, or use PlayStation Support’s online assistant. |
| Subscription | Separate cancellation rules apply. The first-payment request window is generally 14 days from sign-up, and the amount may be reduced to reflect service already used. | Select the subscription category in the current regional refund policy. |
| Pre-order | Eligibility depends on when the pre-order was placed and whether the main content has been downloaded or preloaded. | Use the pre-order section of the current regional policy. |
Sony says an approved refund can take 30 to 60 days to process. If the original payment method cannot receive it, Sony may credit the PlayStation wallet. Wallet top-ups themselves cannot be canceled under the cited policy. Do not download, stream, or preload a game while you are deciding whether to request a refund, because that can change eligibility.
Use the error code and escalate with useful evidence
A vague message such as “an error occurred” is less useful than the exact code. Enter the code in Sony’s official error-code lookup and follow the instructions for PS4 or PS5. If the lookup does not resolve the issue, contact PlayStation Support with:
- the account ID and Store region (never send your password);
- the console model and system-software version;
- the game title and edition;
- the Transaction History entry or the fact that none exists;
- the exact error code and time it appeared;
- the payment method type, without sharing full card numbers;
- the service-status result, available storage, and steps already attempted.
This record prevents support from sending you back through steps you have completed and helps distinguish a declined checkout, a missing entitlement, a license mismatch, and a failed download.

A compact decision checklist
- Game not listed: verify account, Store region, hidden Library items, and whether the title is a current PlayStation Plus catalog item.
- Charged and missing: confirm the successful Transaction History entry, use the owner’s account, check sharing or primary-console settings, and restore licenses.
- Locked for another user: have the purchasing owner enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5 or activate the PS4 as primary.
- Download stalled: check service status, pause/resume, delete and restart the queue item from the Library, then check storage and system software.
- Card declined: verify region and billing details, observe the 24-hour block, and use an accepted alternative without repeatedly editing the blocked card.
- Unknown charge: check Transaction History and renewals, then use account-security support rather than an immediate chargeback.
- Refund request: identify whether it is game/DLC, subscription, or pre-order and check the relevant regional policy before downloading or streaming.
