Nothing recommends Wi‑Fi for system updates. Its troubleshooting page warns that an unstable network can leave the downloaded upgrade package “damaged or incomplete.” Move close enough to your router for a reliable signal, avoid switching networks during the download, and retry from Settings > System > System updates.

Nothing’s official instructions do not designate mobile data as the preferred connection for an OTA update. If the current network is unreliable, connect to a different stable network rather than assuming that changing to cellular data will solve the problem.
Make sufficient storage available
The phone needs enough free space to save the update package and complete installation. Nothing does not publish a universal numeric storage requirement in the cited instructions, so do not rely on a made-up minimum.
Check the storage screen in Settings and remove or move files only when space is genuinely low. Large videos, downloads and unused apps are typical candidates. Do not delete system files, update data or recovery files as a routine fix; Nothing’s OTA guidance does not instruct users to do that.
Charge to the conservative level
Nothing’s two failure-troubleshooting pages say the phone needs at least 40% power (one phrases this as “more than 40%”) before an OTA upgrade is allowed. Its general installation guidance instead recommends at least 50% for a smooth download and installation, or keeping the phone connected to a charger.

The support pages do not explain whether the difference depends on a model or software version. To avoid a battery-related refusal or interruption, charge to 50% or leave the phone connected to a compatible charger. A charger only helps you reach the required charge; it does not repair a damaged download.

Back up important data
Nothing’s Support Centre recommends backing up important data before installing an update. An OTA installation is designed to preserve your data, but a backup gives you a recovery option if an unusual software problem occurs. Confirm that photos, contacts, messages and other irreplaceable files are synchronized or copied somewhere you can access before starting the retry.
Retry the Nothing OS update without interrupting it
- Connect to Wi‑Fi and charge the phone. Aim for at least 50% battery, or keep it on a compatible charger.
- Check free storage. Make room only if the phone is short on space; do not remove system or update files.
- Open the update screen. Go to Settings > System > System updates. This is the path given in Nothing’s online-update instructions.
- Start the download or installation again. Follow the on-screen OTA prompt rather than attempting an unofficial firmware method.
- Leave the phone undisturbed. Do not press the power button, open apps, play media, change networks or perform other actions while the upgrade is running. Nothing specifically says to wait patiently and avoid using the phone.
- Allow the expected restart. The phone normally reboots as part of installation. Do not treat that automatic restart alone as a failure.
If you used the phone or otherwise interrupted the process, Nothing directs you to restart or perform the upgrade again. A clean retry after reconnecting to Wi‑Fi and charging is the appropriate next step.

Should I cancel the update if the percentage pauses?

Can I keep using the phone while it downloads?

Is 40% battery enough?
Nothing’s failure pages cite at least 40%, with one wording it as more than 40%. Its general installation pages recommend at least 50% or leaving the phone connected to a charger. Because the pages do not explain the difference, use 50% as the practical target. That gives you the more conservative preparation level without suggesting that a charger fixes a corrupted package.
